does anyone agree that the updatea are slowing gran turismo down a lot?
takes ages to start a race now because you have to wait for all the opponents names to glow

It is still faster than the way it was when the game first came out. Now that took a while haha

This grinds my gears as well.
Not only that but if you open the XMB while the game exits/joins a room or even loads ANYTHING, it locks it self in a retarded fashion where it just shows the GT5 logo.
Either PS3 can't multitask or GT5 is coded wrong.

I haven't noticed any drops in loading speeds so either it has happened so gradually that I haven't noticed it yet, or you're imagining things.

i definately aint imagining it, other people have had the same experience

I guess then it's only affecting some people, and not others.

With the new updates instead of watching a black screen load up the race it jumps right in and loads up the cars. That way you can jump right into your settings faster. It actually takes the same amount of time as it did before.

Also I think it has alot to do with your gamesave being much larger than it was when you first got the game from all the cars and settings and items.

No new issues here. If anything, it's faster than when the game first came out.

Yeah really I haven't noticed any slowing down. Only thing that takes a little longer is saving with everything I have now. I do agree it seems faster now.

I'm not seeing a difference, only with EA games it takes awhile

It also depends on game save size as well as my second account which i started 2 weeks ago loads up twice as fast as my main accounts save data

Funny thing is the game freezes more on my buddies 1 1/2 year old slim than my 4 year old fat , ive never had a problem with it freezing when i bring up the XMB.
on both ps3's thought Nordschlifie still has a really slow frame rate only track that does it.

I run two ps3's at once (I race HUD off on main screen & 'watch' my car on 2nd) and the 2nd one, 80gb 'Oprah', is often slower than the main 750gb 'Oprah'. Now I thought it was due to running two units on one connection but they both get 10mb down and 1mb up so it's not that, this thread is on to something I reckon.

Digital Foundry posted an HDD upgrade guide a while back (and I remember seeing something similar elsewhere in the GTP Forums) about this.

Basically, any of the following can help reduce loading times in GT5:

More sectors per platter on HDD (usually with large HDDs)
Use a 7200rpm HDD (stock PS3's HDD is 5400rpm)
Using an SSD or Hybrid drive

I also agree that since Spec 2.0 the game loads the race track and allows access to your car settings quickly while it loads the rest of the cars in the background. In the original one you had to wait for everything to finish loading first.

I can agree that's it's making the game worse in the way that I always freeze when I'm in a lounge with my friends or I lose my best lap in qualifying.
