First stint I had a bit left on the front left. Second stint I had nothing. Last stint I had about 1 pixel. I'm on a wheel so clearly I'm doing something very wrong.
Probably over turning, turning too much too quickly and going a little too quick for the lock angle.

Checked the replay and here's my tire levels on the last lap of every stint:

For comparison, the tire levels on the end of lap 30 on the Huracan that was chasing me all race (they were also on 11 lap stint, we both pit on lap 19):

Important warning to everyone who will be doing round 4.

Make sure you do some practice in custom races or lobbies under race conditions otherwise you're very likely going to have a bad time. The F3500-A feels completely different with all the fuel weight in it due to how light it is. The impact on the car's handling, acceleration and braking are massive.

It becomes a hell of a lot more stable, but it turns into an understeer machine that struggles to pick up speed compared to free practice, and also doesn't want to stop. You end up taking turns in lower gears and braking distances are noticeably longer.

Edit - Turns out I'm an idiot. I forgot I'd tinkered around with the setup on my F3500-A a while back trying to do that weekly challenge they had with it. It does feel different with the fuel, but not to the extent I was experiencing. So instead, if you do go to do some practice in it, make sure it's on stock settings. :dunce:

I realise that information isn't in any way useful, just still overly proud of this comeback!! If I hadn't been punted to last it could have been one of my best drives...

Useful advice... @newmedia_dev has nailed it, only turn as much as you need to, never any further. Sometimes that is much less than you'd think.

Plus you need to drive at 90% pace and super smooth, sliding is very bad for tyre temps, they shoot up fast and come down slow.

Finally, Brake Balance is important. I was on 0 I think, perhaps even 1 towards the front. Leaning on the fronts was better than rears in the race, turn the rears to jelly and you are finished.

Edit - Should add I was aided by a tyre temp app in testing (EzioDash), although I didn't use it in the race

Anyone tried the F3500-A yet? That thing is crazy. So hard to drive!

I've managed to get down to a 1:34.8 for now in free practice but I feel like my consistency is non-existent.

Fully expecting Saturday to be unyielding carnage, especially with the grid start. 😵‍💫
I prefer the F3500-A to the Red Bull X2019

My front left was worse than that after ten laps!

First laps in at Suzuka...
Laptimes all over the place. That's gonna be (not) fun...

Oh, how good this one will have the 18 minutes qualifying session, in that time I might be able to get some valid laps in...
🤦‍♂️

Live through the esses and tell the tale - that's my motto.

I get power oversteer in 4th gear with TC2 and ASM activated. I doubt that I will have enough time to practice for this to get comfortable. On the other hand I doubt that too many of my mid B GT2 opponents will be able to tame this beast either.

I only have time for one shot in the very first slot tomorrow. I guess that it's going to be interesting to say the least.

So far PB of 1:36.5.

I am also quite irritated by the relatively long braking distances (compared to the Super Formula) and the massive understeer under breaking. You have to be the absolute master of trail breaking if you want it to turn.

I've done a few custom races against the AI in this F3500-A car and I feel like I'm starting to get the hang of driving it. I'm still going for the occasional spin and ramming the AI drivers -- both Sophy and regular -- for penalties when they brake in surprising places, of course, but I'm learning.

The biggest thing for me has been learning to apply the throttle gradually, especially coming out the lower speed corners, such as the Casio Triangle and the hairpin.

I'm still struggling with braking, especially into T1/T2 and Spoon. I'm no good with trail braking, so I feel like I'm leaving a lot of time on the table in those corners. On the other hand, I'm right at the edge of my limits in those corners as it is. If I were to carry more speed into those corners, I'm not sure this old moose brain would have the reflexes to handle it.

My best lap at the moment in Free Practice is a 1:35.3, which might have been a fluke. Mostly I'm hitting low 1:36s. I know that's way off what the aliens are doing. Still, I'm feeling like it's not horrible, either, which is a distinct change from how I've felt going into most of the races in these qualifying seasons.

If my races against the AI are any indication -- and given how the AI drives, that might be a stretch -- the grid start is going to be absolute chaos into T1/T2. I expect many races to be ruined right off the bat there.

I bet I'm not the only one to have spun into the pit lane exiting the Casio Triangle.

Has anyone else managed to spin the car so it's sideways 90 degrees across the pit lane, leaving the auto-pilot to do an Austin Powers style 'n' point turn?

fail austin powers GIF

To be fair it actually did do a good job of it. What really bugged me was on top of having to make an unnecassary pit stop I got a 3 second penatly for crossing the pit entry line!

For me a good lap time is in 1:35s, with an optimal time into the 1:34's, but I'm yet to manage to string together a whole lap that fast.

Did some practice last night; I think my best was in the 1:34.xx range.

My winning strategy: After the start w/ traction control, remove TC and don't overdrive the car. Let the car do its thing into the turns and short shift coming out of corners for traction control. Pick battles to extend the life of the tire. It's better to survive and advance than to fight and obtain a pyric victory.

My actual strategy: qualify last on the grid, let the chaos gift me a few positions after T1/T2 and keep it on the track for a top 20 finish. Go to bed happy.

Did some pretty good laps with TC2 earlier, best was a 33.1 I think. It’s not a massive hindrance and gives a small chance of catching a slide.

Not looking forward to a grid start though… another lottery.

I wonder if there will be rain 🤔
Very much doubt it. These 18-minute qualifying races seemed to be designed as short no-strategy sprints. I won't say it's impossible, but rain would be completely inconsistent with the other sprints we've had this season.
Did a quick livery 🇬🇧
Sweet!

Good luck to everybody racing tomorrow!

I kept going off, spinning or being held up or harried in qualifying, but I took note of where I was losing traction on the corners, the first corner and the esses are chaos at the start, the key is do not go off the track, spin or get a penalty, I just kept my nose clean, if a car was faster I just let them pass, tbh I only had to do this once (lap 9) as going into the chicane at the end of the lap there were loads of yellow flags and I didn't want to fly past another car and get a penalty so I was looking and I got distracted and braked a bit too late and went into the green section in-front of the tires, I didn't hit anything and a car went past then going onto the main straight another car had caught me so I just let them past in to the first corner, I could have defended and held them off but they would have been on me all the way for the final couple of laps and the chances of us fighting and slowing each other down was high but taking each other off was even higher and imo it wasn't worth it for an extra place.

Pleased with this result considering the qualifying.

How is everyone handling the standing start today? In the practices I'm doing, starting in 2nd gear seems to be the most consistent/clean start.

I've been doing TC 1 in first gear with the throttle at half way up the input gauge in my custom races. Seems to work okay-ish against the AI cars, but I have no idea if it is any good against humans.

2nd, TC at 2 and flooring it for me. Pretty pointless comparing this to the AI but with a false start check, cold tyres and a playerbase who always seem reluctant to use traction control at all never mind in that situation, if I just get off the line cleanly I get the feeling I'm going to make up some places.

Exactly what I'll be doing. Seems to be reliable in custom races, so can only assume it'll work in the real thing.

My main concern is braking into turn 1 whilst potentially 2-wide and no brake lights... 😵‍💫

GT2 slot 1 was absolute chaos for me. Q8 to P10 after escaping the turn 1 carnage I was up to 3rd only to be hit off track 4 times in the next 3 laps down to last and had to battle back.

I feel I have pace so going again hoping for a cleaner race.

Is there a consensus on whether the F-3500 is easier to drive than the F-1500, or is it the opposite? I have very little experience with either. All I remember about the 1500 is that you have to double shift.

Very good result for me out of slot 1, although I am kicking myself for my nerves. Just couldn't settle down at all after the race started and I think it cost me a win.

I started P2 with a 1:33.603 (which is faster than my free practice time!), just 15 thousandths off of the French driver on pole. I have no idea where I pulled that one from.

When the race started, I then got gifted pole because he false started. I wasn't expecting to be that far forward, never mind leading the grid into turn 1. :boggled:

I think there was some contact behind at the start as I briefly pulled away, but I couldn't adjust to the car feeling different with all the nerves and that gap disappeared. I got overtaken by a German on lap 4 and then stayed P2 all the way until very close to the end where a different French driver got the run on me down to 130R. I had a couple of moments where I almost spun the car heading into Dunlop and that cost me time. Without those, I don't think he'd have caught me in time.

P3 and 239 points with a CRB. It's frustrating to have had a potential win within my grasp and thrown it away, but honestly I'm not going to complain. After the set of results I had in Manufacturers, a second podium in Nations is still a very welcome result. :)

My aim is to try get an average of 200 points for each counted race at the end of the season. I'm currently at 853 with today's result so well on target. :D

I have no idea how it compares to the F1500 -- not sure I've ever driven it -- but the F3500 is definitely a handful.

No need to double shift, though. However, there are a few places at Suzuka where it seems to be advantageous to short shift 3rd into 4th. And I was just watching Digit's stream and saw he was skipping from 2nd to 4th on his exit out of the Esses.

I saw Digit and Kie both driving it, and neither one of them seemed to enjoy it at all.
Shouldn't Nations races be in street cars?

GT2 slot 2 was no better. Q8 to P10 again after being hit off track yet again. Do I go again?

I go again.

GT2 slot 3

Q10 to P2 finally a result! The usual carnage and up to 3rd after the esses on lap 1. Leader crashes at Degner a few laps later, up to 2nd. New leader gets the hairpin wrong and good grief I'm leading...

With just 3 to go I have a 3 second lead, but the original leader is coming. I'm passed at Casio just before the last lap, but I'm OK with that and bring it home in second.

I need a shower after 3 races in a row, but can be happy with that one. Best points of the season 135 ish.

Qualified 4th. The pole time was there on the optimum but I couldn't string one lap together. Made a mess of the start and started in first gear, got bogged down and got rear damage in the concertina at turn 1. Made it up to 3rd on lap 2 before getting rear damage again at the Degners. On lap 3 the two cars ahead of me tried to go through 130R side by side. One went into the wall and the other had damage so I passed him at the start of lap 4 and that was that. Ran a clean race and made up some ground on the leader for the first few laps, but ended up driving within myself at a solid 4-5 seconds behind him. I actually ended up setting the fastest lap on lap 12 which doesn't mean much.

Disappointed tbh, if I hadn't botched the start I could have been closer to the lead and could have put more pressure on him. At least I looked good. I'll put the winner's livery in a spoiler it's not very nice

Finished in 19... something for 170-odd points. I forgot to check.

Well I did not liek this Race one bit, a complet clueterboomb of penalties and bad sportmanship by some drivers that think F1 is go kart bumper cars!!!

GT2 league - EMEA REGION - 8PM SLOT - F-3500 (F1 CAR) - Door no.10 - Grid Start - TC 2 BB -3 - OK weather - RS tyres.

Qualifying was rubbish!!! I spun otu multiple times and only qualified 12th.

Race was not bad on reflecting of my replay, but one dirty ass Spaniard driver killed two racers and almost killed me on turn 1 on lap 9, but karma got the better of him and he spun out adavncing me to 7th place where I finished the race strong.

My 1st lap was abysmal becuase a guy spun in front of me and the ghosting never happened, I could not avoid him for the life of me, on turn 1 and I got slapped with a 2 sec penalty, making me wanna lose the will to race, but I perservered and recovered my race.

The other crazy bit was my Drift brake in the F3500, which can be seen below along with some snazzy Race photos, PD all I can say is you should know better, Suzuka is being exhausted stop it! and these F1 cars need aliens to drive them!!!

Onto Round 5 please, I cant take it anymore lol!!!
