I'm all for Dirt 4, if they aim for a more serious and realistic rally experience this time around.

On a related note though, no word on Shift 3?
Shift is not a Codemasters Franchise and its pretty much dead so nothing on it.

The new game has apparently been leaked, it's called Grid: Autosport.
- Offers previous features from the series
- Largest amount of content yet
- Will feel like an authentic experience
- Different styles of driving
- Career mode: become a professional pilot, get a teammate, get a sponsorship, and advance to the top
- Several types of cars ranging from prototypes to super-modified vehicles
- 22 locations
- Over 100 courses
- Online: join racing clubs and participate in weekly challenges
- Share stats and climb to the leaderboards of RaceNet

Something like World Touring Cars, which had the touring cars of the era in generic liveries would be a sweet compromise.

Oh man, this.

The Tremor5 Mitsubishi Galant, Shockwave Renault Laguna and Fresian Racing Nissan Primera were amazing. I still remember most of the liveries in the whole game, which is probably a hallmark of great design.

And this. This thing.

I appluad the above if true. Hopefully the physics got a major overhaul that is more towards ''simcade'' rather than powersliding through every corner.

At least for now, the game appears to be for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC only.
Good news for us late adopters - if true. I also sincerely hope the poorly optimized EGO 3 engine has been vastly improved. Never seen so much appaling screentearing and framerate issues in a racing game as in GRID2.

Ah, but the Shift franchise isn't exactly dead. Heard of a certain upcoming title called PCARS? That IS the next Shift game! SMS ditched the EA license, and hopefully, PCARS will better all of S2's strengths.

It's about time they made a serious driving game. Screen tearing and framerate issues? I remember screen tearing during replays and right before/after the race.. but never during. Rock steady 30 fps. I have the X360 version.

Looks like a true successor to the first Grid. Definitely some NGTC looking touring cars there.

This should be very exciting to play. As long as they take a dip towards more serious driving, rather than "fun" and "excitement" always being primary factors to consider.

Only new content I see so far:

Cars:

Pagani Zonda Revolucion (Almost just dismissed until I noticed the fin)
Audi RS3 (Maybe a V8 Superstars car?)

Tracks:

Hockenheim
Sepang International (Definitely not a track many sims tend of have)

Slightly curious, not yet thinking its a must buy but Its definitely something I need to see/hear more about.

I actually like Grid 2. Sure, it pretty much ruined the original but it's still a good game, dorifto is faster physics aside...

Slightly Mad Studios, the developers of Shift, fell out with EA and are currently making Project CARS. Sort of looks like Shift, but it doesn't have the godawful physics.

:D :D :D

The X360 multiplat games has always been superior to the PS3's (graphics and framerate wise), especially when it comes Codemasters titles. I don't mind a sligth downgrade in graphics, but that framerate needs to be more or less silky smooth.

No it isn't. PCARS is not Shift 3. Shift was a terrible attempt by EA (as usual) to cash in on that GT/Forza crowd and it failed misably to do so. PCARS is a Driving SIM that SMS actually wanted to make in the first place and are actually do it without EA's BS. Just because its the same people does not make it automatically another Shift title. It annoys me to no end that people keep slapping the name of a hideous EA title on a great sim with much effort by people who care.

Okay then, good luck not getting annoyed! :D

Shift 2 has a decent physics engine that's hidden beneath retarded default controller settings and car tunes.

Funny eh? I was downplaying Shift 2's physics to no end. It's good fun once you give the game a chance. I was ready to put it down for good after just 2 hours of play. The deeper I went with the tunes and controller settings, the more I came to terms with it.

Good thing they ditched the EA licensing. SMS ain't holding any punches back no moh!

Looks very interesting! Will definitely keep an eye on this one!

GRID's
1920x-1-3-1.jpg

That looks way too different to be the BTCC car.

And Speedster911, Explain what was so good about Shift. All I saw was the most ragequit worthy flaws I've had in a game (only equaled by NASCAR 09, another EA title and in recent memory, Grid 2).

Man, when I first booted up Shift 2, I was like: what they.. F is this?!! I was disgusted.. it was an abomination! I instantly went back to FM4... ah bliss again.

I did a little research on other forums, experimented with a few controller tweaks and car tunes. Voila.. the beast has been tamed! It's cool they've given plenty of options to tinker with the controller. I believe if EA hadn't put certain "limitations" on it at the time, it would have been a clear winner.

It may get on your nerves, but PCARS in a way is the next Shift game, without the Shift title or the Shift formula. SMS will now really bring to the table what they couldn't previously, thanks to EA's tainting effort.

Unfortunately for Shift 2, it came out of the box with terrible controls and tunes. You just need to tweak it to your tastes. I spent a good hour yesterday doing just that, and now it works fine for me. The PS3 version is laggy, with frame rate drops, the X360 version has better control, and the PC version is prolly the best, even having a handling mod that was released to rectify some of the physics.

I like the car selection, and the track list is killer. Night driving is epic too.

I never ever thought I'd be defending a title like Shift 2.. dating back to the 80s when I started playing sims on the Micro Computer!

The engine sounds are hair-raising for one thing. It's got flaws for sure, including the physics department, but for what it's worth mate, if you can exercise a little patience and give the game a chance, well and good. Otherwise just wait for PCARS till Nov, and enjoy the PC sims and Forza/GT in the meantime.

Cheers. :D

Lot's of different cars and I wonder how the final carlist will look like. Definitely touringcars in there :D Please Codies, become Genius at Play again :D

It's a positive start!

Any idea which track?

I guess that would've helped, although I wasn't sure I'd have the patience to have done so at the time.

Also:

. I believe if EA hadn't put certain "limitations" on it at the time, it would have been a clear winner.

You have no idea how many other titles would have benefitted hugely if that same logic was applied.

Meh, I guess so. Shift was just the final straw for me when it came to anything made by EA (after the massive glitch fest that was NASCAR 09) and doubly frustraiting because just when I think "Finally, a NFS title worth having", it isn't. Guess it was just a combination of EA screwing me over again and me not having any of my expectations met with it (The same thing that happened for me with Grid 2). So whenever I read someone reffering PCARS as "Shift
3", I don't think anything good, that's how sour its made me.

The F3 car looks like fun!
Can't wait to see what it will be like! Whatever it is.

And we have an update

http://blog.codemasters.com/grid/04/introducing-grid-autosport/

A few quotes :D

But we hope that it signals a pivot which we’re taking at Codemasters, to cater more closely to our core fanbase, to be responsive where we can and hopefully reassure you that when you talk to us, we do listen, even if we cannot act on everything you’d like.

On release of GRID 2, I think it’s fair to say that through listening to you guys and a after a substantial amount of reflection, we hadn’t quite achieved everything we set out to do. We’re proud of the game, really delighted with some of the great reviews for it, but we’re not above admitting that we made a few decisions that perhaps we shouldn’t have, and perhaps moved some of the aspects of the game too far away from our core fanbase.

When you’re making games, you always have to make choices – which features to include, what emphasis to put on various aspects of gameplay – even if we had unlimited resources (we don’t by the way!) there’s always people who are going to be disappointed. And we’re obviously aware, that some of you were. We’re not ok with that.

The Handling

As ever, our handling model has had a lot of effort put into it and you’ll really notice the difference, we think, from GRID 2. For GRID Autosport we’ve gone back to a more authentic handling style. It’s definitely not a full simulation – we want it to be authentic, not clinical – but it’s more towards that end of the spectrum than before. If anything, we believe the handling is actually one or two steps further towards simulation than Race Driver: GRID, to give you an idea.

Ravenwest have returned it seems. Automatically makes this a true successor to Grid 1. Everything about it isn't screaming Grid 2 either, which is good news in my eyes.

Cockpit view is back aswell, judging from the videos, physics look like the original grid, shame it's not next gen but will pick it up for the PS3 👍

Demolition Derby is back
