So, @anim8r_uk, what made you guys decide to do 12 player online only?

I think that games like this should have 24 players at least... Seeing 16 offline and only 12 online is kinda outdated. Like, I could go on GT6 and get 16 online with fairly good connection, equivalent cars and better physics... What makes GRID AS better?

Yes but GT6's online sucks.

In Gran Turismo, I have to actually look for a lobby to join before I can even think about racing. Chances are when I find this lobby, it's very unrestricted and very unfair.

This gives me little incentive to actually race. And I shouldn't have to join a fan site to find people who want to do so.

GT's online mode is backward and tiring to use.

In Grid (heck, any other decent racing game), I can join a lobby with the single click of a button and join a race on random tracks with random sets of equal cars. A whole lot more streamlined and focused than GT.

But it may be just too random to some.

I like to choose where and with who I want to race, for example. :)

It's all about options, really.

To be honest, you'd have to ask our programmers..... I don't know figures. However, we have double the amount of cars in Grid Autosport offline.... Grid 2 only had 8. All that extra memory costs.

Hey man, you can get a 360 once the reviews come out. Also, if you have a decent PC, you can check out the demo before purchase or do the same on a mate's beefed up PC.

Cheers.
Got a link to this demo?

How so? The qualifying sessions are cool, the connection is good (improved since 1.07, too!) and the leagues are excellent.

GRID AS offers none of those things, as far as I'm aware.
So GT6 offers Leagues? No, GTP offers leagues and along with other sites can serve the same function within GRID AS. Connections in GT6 are terrible, complaints have been rampant since day 1 and it's worse than it ever was on GT5. If you need some examples of series that had numerous problems with connections and people being unable to join rooms look no further than your own series: ITCC #4 There are anecdotal reports of things being better since 1.07 dropped but nothing is proven yet.

These are features GT can only dream about: http://blog.codemasters.com/grid/05/discipline-progression-game-modes/ The GT series is absolutely barebones at best in every regard except for car count and decent physics.

Your right, GT6's online does suck after I came back to play. If you're wireless than hell, you'll be experiencing lot's of disconnections left and right, even when wired as well. I honestly don't understand, how can a game's online be this bad? Bring on GRID AS because I'm 100% sure its online won't given any trouble, unlike GT6.

Online in GAS sounds pretty good, a nice range of fun modes, leaderboards, easy access pick-up-and-play type modes, and the Custom Cup for creating your own stuff. I like it.

With 12 cars. 12. And that's if you get a full lobby.

I am not convinced. You also won't be able to set flag rules, will you? ToCA games had flag rules.

What I see instead is a game full of punks and jerks who take advantage of the ability to end another person's race entirely. Grid 1 was full of 🤬 irritating dirty drivers who make your race 20 seconds long.

And then quit, when they crash and realize you had damage on.

Boo fricking hoo.

While it's nice to have those four extra slots, unless you're running a league they're probably not going to be full. Me, I think 16 is pathetic compared to the 30+ fields I get in iRacing, but it doesn't stop me having fun in a race with 16, or 12, or 8. All you really need is a couple of others close to your speed for a good race, bigger fields just mean it's more likely to find someone you can have a good battle with.

Welcome to every online mode in every game, ever. That's not a Grid thing, it's an internet thing. Don't pretend that every other game, including GT6, doesn't have those people.

The only real way to deal with those people is through game design, either preventing them from playing or segregating them. Modes like Demolition seem like they could draw a decent amount of the people who just want to crash away from those who just want to race.

Still, there will always be trolls, and there's bugger all you can do about that. Jerks will be jerks. Race with friends only (or in a league, same thing), or man up and take it on the chin.

According to GRID 1 leaderboards, I was one of the fastest drivers in the game. It was impossible to find AI or real drivers fast enough to keep up. The chances of finding an equivalent driver with only 12 spots are low.

In fact, I quickly gave up on GRID for that reason. Even with all assists turned off, extreme difficulty, helmet cam, and "pro mode" (0 flashbacks) enabled, I was still able to beat Ravenwest. I unlocked Ninja difficulty (a nice touch) and finally the AI were at least only 9 tenths a lap slower.

Finding anyone fast enough to learn from was impossible. So, I went back to Forza leagues - found out most of them were close, but still wanted more talent still.

Gran Turismo, with people like Jammy and Spurgy, is full of drivers who can actually keep up...

With only 12 slots, I won't find anyone to race with... unless my GT friends join the GAS fun, I won't waste my time.

Sounds like you're just too fast for this game so I guess it isn't for you. That's not a problem you have in GT6 so you might as well remain there because of course this game is identical in every way to GRID 1. :dunce::dunce::dunce:

... Fewer online lobby slots. It's gotten worse!

But, in seriousness, you're D2G, JP. D2G is just too fast for the casual players of GRID... You'll probably have a similar experience to what I did. Don't say I didn't give you a heads-up..

And yet those extra four slots would make a difference?

You're an alien. You must be used to the fact that it's tough to find decent competition by now. It's not a function of how many players are in the room, it's a function of your own awesomeness.

It's true that some games tend to attract the aliens more than others. That or they just mess around when they're playing games like Grid instead of trying seriously hard to be fast. But if you really want serious competition, PC sims are where it's at, at least for the foreseeable future.

GAS just seems like a good fun game. And sometimes it's OK to have fun instead of waving your e-willy around squealing about how fast you are.

It depends on one's opinion of fun - mine are the races where you inch closer, lap by lap, to someone who's just a tenth per lap slower, and have an awesome (somewhat) clean race... Whether I win or lose, testing my limits as a driver is all I find fun in games.

GRID might offer that, but I might rent it first.

Regarding PC sims, iRacing costs as much as an amateur rally team  so I've stopped playing that.

That's it exactly. Until PCars drops I will probably pick up Grid AS just for fun, even do quite a bit of offline if the AI is decent enough. I'll venture online as well and see what's happening there. I'm not expecting the physics to be sim level but I'm hoping there's some good feedback through the wheel and it'll be fun to mess around with. GT6 is nothing but hotlapping for me now, my least favourite part of any racing game.

I've played iRacing for nearly three years I think, and have the majority of the road racing content. I've spent maybe $500, probably less, I haven't been counting. I really take them for all they're worth on their discount system. I would love to live in the country you can run an amateur rally team for $500. I don't think I could get a car I'd feel safe racing in for that.

As far as fun goes, there's different types of fun. Something like iRacing excels at providing the fun you get from close racing, and I admit that's my primary source of enjoyment in racing too. But there's fun to be had at a more relaxed level as well I feel. Sometimes it's nice to get drunk, grab some friends and smash stuff up.

I don't play iRacing drunk, because I feel it would be disrespectful to the time that others put into practising for their races to be punted by some drunk loon. I'd have no qualms about playing GAS drunk, because it seems like it would be good times. Different kind of fun. Relaxed hooliganism, rather than knife edge perfection.

(I say hooliganism, but even when drunk I can't bring myself to crash other people. I do like to do dumb stuff like try and drift every corner in race though. :D)

You can buy ice racing cars for $300 here, with roll cages...

If I am just looking for pure fun, I play FPS games. I don't really play any games drunk, but I was dared to in GT6 - beat my personal best while drunk.

Again, though: unless this game gets excellent reviews and things, I'm not getting it. My gaming is 90% league racing now, and 10% rally car control lessons. :D I don't think anyone would disagree that the 2016 STi I'm saving for is more worth the money... :sly:

Unless people persuade me. @buck1, @Johnnypenso... That's your job, I suppose.
