Locost7RulesLook guys, this is the simple truth. Everyone says that they like to have a "great race", but the truth is, we love winning a great race. Thats what Polyphony Digital is dealing with. Human beings like to win, but they don't like to feel like it is handed to them. So, yes I agree, the mindless AI drones are boring, but PD isn't going to do a damn thing about unless two things happen: 1) People realize that racing, like life, is hard, and people lose, and things fall apart, or 2) They develop an extremely (and I mean extremely) variable AI that adjusts to the player (either with player controlled sliders, or some kind of adaptive AI).
Perhaps it is just me, but I would rather lose a race and think that it was either because I didn't drive it well enough or that the car wasn't capable of winning. What we find in GT is that you can drive slow laps at the start and then nip past at the end to win. Then you do the same race, lapping 5 seconds a lap quicker and you lose it at the finish, because the AI adapts. I would prefer to have the AI drive consistently, so if I am losing races that other people are winning, I know it is just me that needs the practice. But that is just a personal preference.
Of course it is a tough job for PD to find the right balance and they need to allow for all abilities to enjoy it, but it is not that aspect that bothers me. It is the fact that the AI drive the circuit as if you weren't there. This was one of the main problems with GT3 and it appears that it is about the only thing they haven't improved. Still, who am I to say what PD should do. They have done an amazing job with these games and I can't wait to get to my hands on the new one.
