Pretty nice smoke effects, eh, Cobragt? The smoke is pretty nice. I think the "attention to detail" bar has been raised if not in physics, then especially in graphics. Compare GT3 to this. Almost no comparison. No equal. I almost cried to some of them (hell, I wanted to!). They just look unreal. What we seen in GT3 is pretty much a teaser for GT4, only 2 to 4 times more wonderful.

Someone on the last page said that we don't know anything about drifting mode. That's kind of an interesting point. Who knows (and you will have to have played GT1 to know what I'm talking about)? Maybe you'll probably be racing in a small, confined area like the A-License test where you run five laps on a 100 meter oval (using Grand Valley as the backdrop) in a Subaru Impreza/WRX. Maybe some cones or concrete barriers will be added and we'll have to slide around them as best as possible without knocking over cones. Anyone want to make any predictions on drifting locales in GT4? Or did anyone contact Kazunori Yamauchi or PD representatives about this issue? And oh yes, I noticed the bodyroll with the old-school VW Beetle. I thought cars had noticable body roll already. Apparentely not seems like. You knows, you may get old-school wheels to use with your cars. For sure, what we liked in past GTs will likely be better in GT4. I don't care about reposts of pictures. It's often nice to remind myself as to what GT4 will be like once I play that bad boy on my PS2. Maybe since I'm a nighttime person, haven't seen much in the way of road courses at night. We have seen glimmering city streets at night, namely that Paris tarmac rally course.

As a "just for fun" question, do you think PD received our prayers and gazed into our imaginations about GT4? They kind of seemed to know what some of us wanted to see in GT4. Maybe the folks at PD can read minds... but hey. I'm not pressing the issue here.

Isn't the last pic from Forza? If you ask me, that doesn't look half as nice as the GT4 shots.

It's GT4. Forza has different road textures.

It looks very convincing now, PD has really got the tire smoke realistic looking. that shot reminds me of that ford GT commerical, with the GT pilling out 👍

It's not a very big improvement over GT3... It's a nice puff for wheellocking maybe.

Try to make a limit turn with a swing axle beetle (like this one) and you will get the outer rear wheel tucking under.
As long as they don't get that, they won't get it right.

I'm wondering now if we have the option to turn the lights of the car on and off.

just a minor detail but it'd be pretty cool to do so

Both look good enough to me.
Does it matter so much if one looks slightly better than the other.
The graphics have come to a level where now they are not so important, as long as the frame rate is sustained.
It will now come down to physics and gameplay as to which one is best.
 
some cars (like my own) have running lights that are always on when the car is on. Think of it this way, could you ever turn on or off your lights in other GTs? Nope. Did your lights ever really do anything? Nope. Maybe they added a light switch but otherwise it won't be selectible.
 
xc you just made me think of something, Some Volvo's are in GT4, so in order to stay true to Volvo they will need to have their lights on constantly when driving. (Swedish law). Hmm I wonder?
 
i wonder if the devlopers missed that.. hopefully not. U know, during battles i've seen the chasing car sometimes turn on his highbeams to pressure the guy ahead of him. so that would be cool to do it in the game.. .ANd are their any night courses besides SSr5 and route 11? will there be selectable weather and time of day???? I heard something about it but i dont remember....
 
From the other automotive forums I know that all GM cars have running lights (I drive a saturn). THe US wrx has running lights because of the sharing of parts and the fact that GM owns part of the company. I don't think the vette has running lights though, maybe they are just alot more subtle than other cars.
 
The race cars have lights on because most racing series require them to be on just so its easier for drivers to see someone behind him.

I'm sorry I didn't do the honors this past Saturday. For more on Petit Le Mans, go to my "The American Le Mans Series (ALMS)" thread. Anyhow, on to this topic.

I don't know what looks better, the environment, the Ford GT, or the picture itself. Nice stuff there. Perhaps that El Capitan will be a wonderful place to race. And if you prefer natural road courses, this should be your bread and butter.

And how do you like that interior? I don't know how often we'll see such interiors for cars, but the Shelby Cobra and the Nissan 350Z/Nissan Fairlady Z Roadster, we'll take it.

My topic entitled "Lighting and Night Racing" was a discussion on lighting and darkness. The lights aren't seriously bright as in real racing, but I'm sure it would be nice to have nice trails of light. Need an example of nice lighting effects? I recall seeing video clips of light trails in "Need for Speed: Underground." But I'm not complaing about the lighting. It's all cool. Another thing about lights... remember the 2003 12 Hours of Sebring? The Bentleys were in dark green (or British Racing Green?), so a driver ahead doesn't want to confuse a driver with the scenery. So the lights would have to be used to let people know that there is a car behind, and not a forest in the distance, especially concerning dark-colored cars.
 
Nascar is Huge Here in the states, so you cant really say no one cares about nascar :) But i personally am not a huge fan.

You remember granturismo.com dont you? Well, some time ago (a year or so) they had some pretty cool vids there. A Making of from England were dozens of owners brought along there exotics to let PD photograph and sound record them. You know where i can find such videos??
