Agreed. My tires wear pretty darn close together, there is little difference between the fronts and backs, unless its one wacky car I always use the same for all 4,(but there have been exceptions, just not this one).

Tell you what my biggest problem this race is, consistancy!

I can do good/great opening laps, laps 2-5 are consistantly within my targets, then on lap 6 my brain goes for a wander around the garden with the rabbits and tweety-birds!
It's like i turn into Homer, do de do da doooo! D'Oh! :crazy:

The best of it is, i started thinking about writing this post, during the start of lap 6 and ran off in the middle of the 'spoon corners' :ouch:

Can do good fast laps on soft's 1:47.5xx ish, so that's not too bad , just wish i could stop my mind wandering off

Same problem here. I think it's called Adult Attention Defecit Disorder. :)
 
Just took another 3 seconds off my final time.

New best lap - 1'49.366 (RS/RS 310kph TCS)

Nearly took the wrong lane in to the pits but I realised my mistake and managed to handbrake turn the car at the last moment. It caused the car to spin right around but the replay shows that only 2 tyres ever left the track at once so it's clean - ugly, but still clean.

I almost had a heart attack when I saw how far down the leaderboard I was. Then I realised my time in there is wrong - it says 1'55.xxx instead of 1'50.xxx.

:yuck: :ouch: arg had a bad night last night, could not keep the car on the track at all :banghead:, keep coming off in weird spots. Guess i'm starting to push to hard and paying the price :crazy: . Did hit my first 1'47.xxx though :dopey: need more of those, but in a clean race.

Speed setting 370 - mediums 4 corners (rears wear more) 5 lap runs - ds2 -130r 160+ after scrubbing off speed.

More runs tonight, hope i can get another "clean" run, see about 8/10 seconds to take off of my 1 good save.

Edit : i'm done till sunday - finally got a good clean fast race and beat my time by 7 seconds 👍 👍 , a lot of work to try to beat it by a second or two :yuck:

Sorry for the tough AI rules everyone, but since this race is also going to be the qualifer for the GTP team that particiaptes in the Board Challenge 5, it has to be similar to such an event. BC races are very strict and must be 100% without a doubt clean, so the qualifier needs to be the same IMO. If we ever do something like this again the AI rules won't be so tough.

Sorry to disagree, but I don't see how this applies here. How many people are going to apply for BC5? Probably most of Div 1 and some of Div 2...? People who aren't going to apply (like myself) drive a perfect 10 laps and then because of the poor AI we have one moment of contact which invalidates the run and causes us to spend another ~20 minutes trying to get a clean run.

The problem with this "no contact with the AI rule", IMO is that contact with the AI almost always slows you down and increases your lap time. The only instance I can think of where AI contact could be beneficial for lap time is when someone uses the AI to slow them down rather than the brakes. Obviously this kind of contact is against the spirit of a series like the WRS.

In one of my runs, an AI car spun out right in front of my car at the first corner, It was impossible for me to miss it.

Anyway, back to the point...the only AI contact I can see which is going to be beneficial, as I said before, is using the AI as brakes. Now, if someone has this mentality and thinks nothing of doing it, do you think they'll think twice about submitting their time? I doubt it...

I totally agree with the rule about keeping two or more tyres on the track at all times and no contact with walls/barriers, even though it can be absolutely infuriating to have a really quick lap being spoilt by a tap of the wall. The reason that I totally agree with these rules is simple: they are within my control. If the car hits the wall or runs off the track, it's MY fault, I made it happen. If I make contact with the AI, it's not necessarily my fault. This is exactly why I'm making this whiney post.

Wouldn't it be fairer to relax the AI contact rules for those who don't wish to try to get into BC5?
 
Finally managed 10 FULL LAPS!!!!!!!!!

Nothing to brag about..........wait...........yes it is. I DID 10 FULL LAPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And they were clean laps. I'm so proud of myself. *pats self on back*

I ran R3s the full race. Best lap was 1:51.609. Now that I at least have a time to submit, I'll work on getting that time down.

hell yes TCS is evil! It slows you down so much in GT4 it is ridiculous, and by ridiculous I mean stupid, and by stupid I mean .....well you get the idea. don't use it. If you think you can't pull clean laps without it then train your stupid ass ankles to work better! :)

got myself a 1'44.904 fastest lap on SOFTS ( not my current race lap )

just took off 4 whole seconds from my last race, think this is the winning time i just got

heres a quick run through of a lap with hOt6o4bOi

320km top speed
softs to start
for the start
i put the blue accel. bar
just under the middle line
then keep it there to around 70km to 2nd
then so on
and i pass all the cars a car length b4 the white pit line
i dont touch it
then go into first corner from 5th
to 4th
touching the inside curbs
then out wide to the outside curbs down to 3rd
then light on the throttle till im safe to use all the rumbles
then for the left coming up
u need to go right over the inside curbs
you dont wanna miss em, because it gives you a good run for the next right
then for the right slow in
4th to 3rd
then wide entry
for the fast long left
going out to the rumbles on the right
for the fast right
i dont even kno my braking point
its a guess every lap i do it
its just feel
i stay in 4th
for the right
at the bottom
then for the hairpin
i start braking
right at the end of the rumbles on the right
then for the double apex left
i brake early enough, so i can go over the rumbles on the inside
then stay in 4th
till i get to the 2nd left
and i shift to 3rd for a quick rotation of the car
back into 4th
down to 130R where i take it around 160ish sometimes faster
then i brake right at the beggining of pitlane to the right
for the chicane

then thats a lap

for a milisecond?, sometimes tap the brake to save my ass from hitting a wall at 250

that corner sure takes guts, especially when u switch over to the mediums after~
 
YES! I'm getting some clean races in today! Got a clean, slower one using RM/RS for the last 6 laps, and a fast one where I got kissed on the side by a Renault. :banghead:


[320KM, RS/RS for 4 laps, RM/RM for 6, AI -8 on RH/RH]


1st lap: 1'51.678
Average lap in RS: 1'47.xxx
Average lap in RH: 1'50.xxx

With RH/RS after the pit, I only had to pass 3 cars at separate points, easily. But the red tires slowed me down considerably on the last lap, so I went with RH/RH. With all hards after the stop, I was caught in some pretty difficult situations. I had one right before Casio Triangle, where I had to pull a Senna and brake VERY LATE and cut off some rally car into the chicane. The next one was hogging the racing line at 200R before Spoon Curve. I had to make sure I don't get pulled to the grass by gravity but that was relatively easy. The last one, which ultimately f'ed up my race on lap 8, was at the S-curves. I stayed behind it until I saw an opening on the outside, but once we were side-by-side the bastard dinged my door,

The rules have to apply to all racers equally, as this is still a normal WRS as well. Giving a driver the ability to touch the AI would make it that much easier for them to do better than another driver in the same division who is following the no AI contact rule. From personal experience, allowing AI touches will just open a big can of worms as to what is legal and what is not. No matter if I write a 78 page essay on what is a legal AI touch and what is not, there will still be gray areas where people will try and argue that what they did was legal. It's hard enough just to get everyone on the same page about what is considered on and off track around here, let alone throwing AI contact into the mix. So no AI touches is the rule, and it will stand. Two weeks should be plenty of time to get a clean race saved, and when you do you'll have a nice clean run to be proud of. I think the majority of drivers have managed clean saves already, if you haven't I am sorry for the inconvenience.

The nature of AI contact is that there is no way to really measure what is and isn't legal unless it is either disallowed or allowed. IMO, having no AI contact in a case where it CAN be done is the only way to go in a race as important as this. Having two standards for different divisions is definitely not a good way to go; if some of use have the no AI contact rule, all of us should follow it. I think you handled it well CFM 👍

Wall? :odd: If you're getting close to the wall on the exit of 130R you're already WAAAAAAAAAAY offline. You do know that's a runoff area right? :)

@CFM: It's not an inconvenience so much as it's just infuriating :banghead: I nearly put down my first clean run last night until passing a backmarker (PD know about those little blue flags they use in RL racing don't they?) the bastard turns in on me, and I wasn't even on his line :grumpy:

Managed a fastest lap of 1'49.6xx but the race was, yet again, an abortion. I don't know how many more attempt I have in me :yuck:
 
I was on Lap 10 near the finish last night, and one of the AI cars spun just after 130R ... wham bam right into it ... after doing 1:49's and 1:50's the whole race ... haha, but oh well, rules are rules, and that's just how it is this week, not for the faint of heart dudes

Best opening lap has been a 1:53,2 so far, but I know there are some corners that I can take in 4th rather than 3rd, and save a couple of 100's
 
Like most of us, I'm struggling to make 10 fast AND clean laps. Of course I was very frustrated and angry about this. But isnt this the first WRS event (at least for me) which comes much nearer to race conditions than the previous' events? Let's face it, normally, we are not racing, but qualifying, trying to have a fast one lap. This event actually shows how much harder it is to stay fully concentrated near the maximum speed and deliver still a good result. So, since I changed my attitude towards this weeks challenge, its actually fun again (though I still struggle!)

Well said man, I agree totally with what you said. My problem also comes in at about 4-8 laps, then I start thinking about a whole lot of other things, and then miss my bloody braking points haha. But yes, this is like a real race, and even a real race is like 6 times more laps ! So we should be happy haha.

I also still struggle to get 10 clean laps, but I can bet you everyone here does. At least I've got tomorrow off from work, so a whole day to try and get this together ... trying for the BC5 but I don't think I will make the cut ... 👎
 
Thanks kragbees. My problem are lap 4 and 5, and the exit at Spoon...and you are right, a real race last 4-6 times longer (besides the other obvious differences like more cars on track, weather, g-forces, etc)

We have Monday off, and I will see if I can improve the one clean run I have saved ( i hope so, or I will Never make it up the Division ladder.....)
 
CFM, I have a question. When was coming in to the pit, I got some oversteer and car was going to touch the wall. But when the car finally touched the wall the pitlane AI had taken controll over my car. Is it considered wall contact or not?

Eh, I guess that is all right, if you were not in control of the car at the time of the contact. That's kind of an iffy situation, but I guess since you didn't have a chance to fully recover I guess we can let it slide.
 
Wow... I feel special... Everyones been talking about what tires to use. I used some Super Hard tires and got 10 laps without pitting. My fastest lap was a 1'59.xxx since I don't race on superhards that much. But compaired to everyone elses, mine should, if I'm lucky, break about even with everyone whos pitting. OK not really. Thats just having my hopes up.

I'm also going to be restarting GT4... Just as soon as I get paid and can go get a new memory card. Did a lot of dumb stuff in my original game and it killed the fun when I realized what I did(most of which has to do with B-Spec and the fact I can't drive 1/2 the cars in my garage because I never took the time to learn).
 
Did a one hour stint yesterday night without TCS, resulted in a 5 second improvement in my total without any increase in driving skill :)
On average i am seeing a 0.5 second improvement per lap.

My start is pretty iffy right now with the stupid pressure sensative throttle button, but i can still run a faster first lap because i can make it up in the rest of the track without TCS. For those who are just using TCS for the launch like i was, just practice being very gentle without it at the start (ie read 604boi's description about staying about mid/or slightly less than mid throttle until 70km/h).
You may end up being slower at the launch when compared to TCS but it will be ALL worth it at the end of the race. Just think of it as a free 5 seconds off your race time! It'll also teach you better throttle control too 👍

You're dead right there. I just tried without TCS and despite a dodgy start I managed to make nearly a second up on my normal starting lap T1. :eek: (lost most of that on the rest of my lap though :crazy: )

Definitely the way to go. (you have to watch your throttle at the hairpin though - if you go full on the power too early you can easily spin out even in 3rd)

Tha AI are really testing my patience. Medium tyres all around, opening lap of 1'52.8xx, fastest race lap of 1'48.5xx all ruined by the AI.
 
TCS IMO is like air conditioner, some like it but i dunno myself why it exists.

What is better than feeling the 200 km/h wind in your face, or smelling the tire´s smoke after a quick launch? :D

Hate to have to send in so early. But I will be out of town until tuesday. Its not very fast, I know there is a lot of time that i can take off (I mean LOTS). Sorry to Redwolf. I am looking forward to next weeks challenge. Hopefully I can fight for podiums in week 13.
