In such rooms you can drive the track backwards (where allowed, for example at La Sarthe).
If only more people did that in the drag rooms...
I keep telling them to keep to the right side when doing the drag race so that upcoming drag racers don't collide.

Nothing does, but common sense can at least halt you from trying. ;) Although no one in the public lobbies really bothers to use it :ouch:
To bad there are a lot more people lacking this great thing.

Tbh I see these quite good because you rarely see any redbull x2010s veyrons or race cars good to chill out in. I took my tuned GTR out and the police had no chance even the host on his own track.
However you do still get idiots in these rooms.
I was in a room last night and a little American kid was being a pain in the ar*e but he could not keep up at all in my GTR or r8 lol

In such rooms you can drive the track backwards (where allowed, for example at La Sarthe) as long as you keep right (ideally half the participating players on each direction). Some rooms might have "special rules" as no speed limits on certain areas, etc. If well done/executed by the participating players, they kind of recreate what a free roaming mode would be.

SSR7 sounds suitable for this purpose having 3 lanes although driving it within a speed limit might be incredibly boring.

As for the reason people do this or whether there's a point to it, guess what, it's a videogame and some people like to other stuff with cars than only racing or hotlapping with the same realistic physics of GT5.
If they're having fun doing that, then that's the point or reason, or better put, there is no point or reason.

Haven't yet entered one of those rooms myself but I think I might give it a go and see whether it's fun or not.
Still want to create a 'tag' room some day although that's probably better to keep within the private rooms, somehow a combination of the childish game 'tag' and a high speed B-movie car chase sounds like great fun. :D

If you like these kind of things, you all should really try Live For Speed S2 and join the Live To Cruise servers.. There are different speed limits depending on the part of the track. You earn money by driving of which you use to buy one of the 20 available cars. Police can fine you, everyone drives on the right side, you can do much more in the civilized community..

On short and narrow courses (especially Toscana course maker tracks on -4 or -5 width - which to me seems the most realistic by the way), with enough people, driving at low speeds without crashing when others can come from the opposite way (of course it's important to strive to keep the right lane at all costs, especially when crossing other vehicles) can be a fun challenge.

Quite good fun these rooms whether to cruise round, antagonise "cops" or show off your car. Took my NOMAD Diablo to one yesterday when suddenly all these Murcielago's came out. As there was a fast open section (Toscana) I challenged one to run with me, which he did till a flat kink at 150+ mph, showing the difference between road & race cars. An orange spec in my mirror....:)

I love making tracks with the width less than -4. It does make it feel more realistic, I think more so with Mt. Aso.

OP - I had no idea people did this. Looks like this was a good idea for a lot of people,
Yamauchi wanted to implement a “free roam” gameplay mode in GT5, where players could drive around, respecting speed limits and obeying traffic laws, and even exit the car to walk around and explore the environment on foot.

I'm interested in trying this out. I've BEEN interested.

I was in one of these rooms last night on a thin windy custom course(Toscana). Mechanical damage was on, and you could only use low standard tyres. Police drove white cars, and pulled you over by beeping the horn and/or flashing the lights.
Most of the time I floored it, quickly turned around and went in the opposite direction. Only works when the cops are good drivers
