Well, I finally bought my copy yesterday, and it was kind of a weird feeling to actually have GT5 in my hands, hehe.
Of course I played for a couple of hours yesterday and here is my view of GT5.
Physics: The cars handling on tarmac is pretty much the best and closest to real life that I have felt so far. This is the most important aspect of a car game, so I am really glad that GT5 delivered on this part.
Gravel is another story, it just doesn´t feel right, but I can´t put my finger on it and say why.
Sound: As someone allready mentioned, sound is very, VERY, important. I was really looking forward to hear a c63 amg for example. GT5 has improved the sounds over GT4 by quite a bit. Unfortunately it still is far from satisfying. Some cars are better than others, my tuned miata sounded quite nice.
On the other hand I had a weird experience yesterday, maybe some of you had the same issue. I bought a premium stingray corvette for the classic races, and I immediately tuned it pretty much completely. Meaning everything that increases power went in there incl. Exhaust.
I was really looking forward to hear it and was pretty much shocked that it sounded like a 4 cylinder engine. It honestly had absolutely no resemblance what so ever to a V8. This left me puzzled as some of the V8´s in GT5 sound allright.
Don´t know what happened there. The plus side is that it is an absolute beast and therefor joy to drive hehe.
I have no problem with the tire sounds or the crash sounds. In fact the crash sounds were a positive surprise. Considering that most modern car bodies are made of plastic, I think they fit nicely.
Visuals: The first thing that I noticed (and sorry for mentioning it AGAIN hehe) are the absolutely horrible shadows. I have to say it again because it is a huge deal. You see them in the cockpit, you see them outside there is no way of NOT noticing these shadows. And they really are that bad. This has to be patched immediately, because in all honesty this is just embarrassing for PD. I don´t care if the PS3´s Hardware can´t handle it or whatever other reason there might be. GT´s strong points have allways included great graphics. A GT should not be released with obvious flaws like that.
Secondly I immediately noticed the strange wobbling of the in-car view, I don´t know what that is supposed to do. Although I either haven´t noticed it later on or it only happened on some cars. Either way its a minor bug, but a little irritating at first.
Thirdly the gfx are actually worse than GT5P. I thought I was crazy for even thinking that, and I am glad other people have mentioned it as well.
I am playing on a hd beamer so I have a pretty big screen

and I noticed that the dials in cockpit view are kind of blurry. Its like the resolution of the textures has been dialed down in comparison to GT5P. I thought that this was very strange.
But it is still so good that I will play it for a long, long time. When the next generation of consoles is released, I will have to think long and hard if I go for the ps4 or the new xbox though. Well, still got a couple of years until I have to make that decision.
Overall, GT5 is a solid 85% in my book. It has glorious moments, but seems very unfinished and rough to me. Let´s hope for some good patches.
