That brings up a question: If he is using an AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION then why in the world would the hand animation be shifting at all? I thought I saw him choose AT but was waiting for someone else to verify. I will be sticking with bumper cam since they can't even get that much right after 5+ years of developement.

The hand animation be shifting because the car have GEARS, in AT the car still have gears but the console make the change for you.

So noob.

Isn't it time now to get automatic transmissions act like they do in real life? With all the things you can do with you right foot like shifting up, down or activate kickdown?

I would allow shifting game for player in cars with MT only in standard physics.

So you're playing with automatic transmission? Very realistic indeed :sly:

Well it would be for the MB SL55 in GT5P:)

A few months ago there was a thread on the Prologue (or cockpits?) board about the DFGT and G25 / G27 seups, with some folks stating that the clutch and H shift are more realistic...

... well whilst it would be for some cars, the DFGT would be a more accurate representation of the now common sequential / paddle shift arrangement

Well, the post WW2 classics thread got locked before I could edit my post to include a few photos....

I mentioned the (admittedly pre-WW2) Napier Railton 24 litre car on that thread:

With a 24 litre W12 engine producing 500 bhp at 2200 revs, 168mph top speed and rear wheel brakes only!!!!

What a lovely prize car that would make....

(ETA - now expecting a telling off!!!)

Very unrealistic. That just ruined in car cam for me! I will just laugh my butt off at the next person that says that in car is the most realistic view to use.

You have to make concession even with the best sims out there. For example, when you remove both your hands from your steering wheel, I don't know of any racing sims that would replicate that on the screen. Right now the only types of cars shown from GT5 (in all the recent demos) are performance vehicle that usually come with manual (or dual-clutch semi auto) transmission via a stick or a paddle shifter. I'd wait until the final game before assuming how PD would handle cars that are sold only with auto transmission.

That car has been in another thread about classics on GT5 forum. :)

Was 1:1 handmovement in the cockpit confirmed? So that the animation in the cockpit is 1:1 accurate with your own steeringmovement?

What's unrealistic is to race a car with AT. Name one pro driver who drives his car in AT on a track! Of course it has to be this way. No one races with AT in real life, so, the games simulates MT anyway. If You don't have the skill to play the game in MT, the game still makes it look real.....

Yes, but I'm 99% sure PD won't show it before gt5 is released.

Hello everyone!

I have one question for the people who watched carefully recent videos. I couldn't see it myself. Anyway, my main concern is AI, in every GT cars are on a rail track, it's very frustrating.

I was wondering if you notice a change in the recent videos. Do you think GT5 will a have decent IA, something that a PS3 can deserve?

Thanks in advance

I am not a pro and I do use MT but the guy in that vid did use AT.

Duh, yes all cars have gears but in an AT you do not shift the damn thing manually... So noob!

I play with MT but the vid is in AT and the animation is wrong, that is all I was saying.

For all of you to try to explain why the animation is correct is just comical.

Again, in AT you do not shift, the console make the change, BECAUSE of that you see the shifting animation.

Sorry my english.

Again.... AT in Gran Turismo means GT will do the shifting for you, no the animations are not automatic functioning like a automatic because the cars are not, it's just GT will do the shifting which is why you still see the manual animation.

Again wrong. If that was the case then the option would say auto shift not automatic transmission. The game gives the option for an automatic transmission. It does not say "we will just shift for you" now does it?

Wow, Cletus, just drop it for pete's sake. It's a lame argument.

A track editor definitely won't work. As for a livery editor, I would limit in to alternative colours only.
I'm glad you're not a game designer.

It will probably have the same A.I. that every other game has. In other words, some aspect of it will annoy you, but because it's a Gran Turismo game, it will bug some people more...

But in cars with automatic transmission you don´t see any animatin ;)
Jay is right GT shifts for you. Its not that the car has automatic transmission when selecting automatic transmission.

Your right, I use bumper cam anyway so iy really doesn't matter to me. For people to say that the game shifts for you in AT is just silly. Whatever help them sleep at night I guess.

I have always taken it to mean that the game is taking care of changing gears for you......otherwise how could you select AT on cars that do not have an Automatic as an option?

You can't because it isn't there.

For people to say that the game shifts for you in AT is just silly.

Silly, but true.

You can select AT or MT on any car in any GT game. You can select MT on cars which do not have an available manual transmission in real life. You can select AT on cars which do not have an available automatic transmission in real life. By changing from MT to AT you do not suddenly acquire a car with the appropriate gears and gear ratios for the real life automatic transmission.

Picking AT means the game shifts for you. Picking MT means you shift when you choose to. That's the limit of what the terms mean. It has no bearing on what the gearing in the car you have picked is.

hmmm I do hope they fix the hand clipping in the final version or position the thumbs as in the 458 Italia; i.e. resting on the side of the wheel which does not allow for the driver's thumb to clip through the steering wheel.

This brings back the horrid memories of GT1 and GT2 were the NSX and certain other vehicles had black borders when drivng from chase view on the rear...let's hope PD gets rid of this clipping and don't leave it in the final version.

BTW the ring looks abolutely awesome :)

@Famine: Youre absolutely right except for one little thing:
You can select AT or MT on any car in any GT game.
Some were automatic only and with a real automatic (Honda Jazz, Mitsubishi i, GTbyCitroen).

It's the same as racing game's having an "Automatic braking" assist for inexperienced drivers.

All it is saying is that the game now takes care of braking for you. Not that they have now modelled a car with a super intelligent breaking system that knows exactly where it is on the track and how much to apply the breaks for each turn.......the game just has the driver press the brakes at the right time.

Enthusia is the only game that try to model real Automatic transmissions as well as manual and automated manual shifting

New video, features the Lexus IS F in a lap around Fuji Speedway and the data logger technology.

Indeed, though they weren't genuine automatics - rather CVTs. We can tack the Priuses on the list too.

 I noticed that too, PD better change it otherwise i'll boycott the game :sly:

From that view, the reflection is indeed wrong. But for the purposes of gameplay, it's fine. It's one of the few things they've purposely tried not to 'simulate'. The mirror never actually 'reflects' anything, rather it's just an output frame that displays another view.

:sly: I know that.
