I always thought at ment automatic transmission too. it never crossed my mind that gear ratios never changed I just thought ether I was shifting or the computer was shifting. I guess all your bickering tought me something and gave me something to laugh about thanks cletus.
 
When playing gt4, in the options there is an option to change the transmission from AT to MT. what does that do and what is the deal with it?:lol:. please don't answer that...

It's pretty clear that:
MT = Manual Transmission.
AT = Automatic Transmission.

Cars have a transmission, people and polygon-based avatar people don't.

If a car's transmission is automatic, you wouldn't see a person shift gear - unless it's to move to R / D, etc (a-ha!!). The whole point here is that GT doesn't support an AT configuration in cars that have both AT + MT. Fine, if you select AT the game does the manual shift - automatically - for you. The question however, is what to do when an AT-only car is featured in GT.

The game should have the 2 modes listed as:
Manual = Manual Shift.
Auto = Automatic Shift.

When you buy a car, you could be given an option to buy the MT version or the AT version - if there is one. If the car only comes in MT or AT, then that's that! The two types of car for AT / MT should have different performance statistics dependent on the configuration.

All of this said, it's remarkable that you lot are arguing over this. It is what it is and frankly Polyphony Digital don't prioritize the purchase of AT cars, so just forget it. Should PD change the text to Manual / Auto instead of MT / AT? Yes, probably, but how is it such a big deal that you've wasted 10 minutes of MY time reading through YOUR arguments in a LATEST NEWS thread?

I dropped this arguement hours ago because even a mod came on and posted his false thoughts and I suppose that if they say it then it is like the word of God or something.

You could have at any time checked your argument and seen how baseless it was, but instead you preferred to stick to your guns and insult anyone who disagreed with you, regardless of the fact that they were actually right.

@ McLaren. If there wasn't anything there for me to waste time with in the first place, I wouldn't have read it. I come to this thread looking for news and I don't consider it a waste of time if I find some. Point being - it's okay if there isn't any, but it's disappointing when there's all this rubbish in here cluttering up the thread between actual 'news' items. I'd be all in favour of a mod coming in here and deleting the majority of the last 18 pages of posts - including mine - if it'd put a stop to all this.

@ Jay. Fair enough, but I would hope that you didn't point that out to encourage further discussion on trees, skid marks or fricking AT / MT / Auto / Manual. If people want to talk about those things, go to the relevant thread and do it there.

The MT / AT thing now is less than talking about AT than it is the way cletus 669 responds to people who don't agree with him.

I know that in GT2-3- and 4 that if you used a controller that you could hold (which button I don't remember) and the car would not shift until you let go of it, letting you get the most out of every gear.

True.
In AT, The gears wouldn't shift until the the user realeased the gear change button. Holding the button in gave the driver the ability to exceed the normal AT limit.

Automatic transmission? Next people want other speed limiters :) One button driving anyone? :) But seriously if car has only AT, it would be nice if PD developed a realistic AT system as those videos explain.

I will not use AT unless i have to. If GT5 is all what we currently believe from the information given to us, PD can focus on more minor things in GT6. I would like to see that PD would model some realistic 4WD systems from different manufacturers(like mitsu,nissan, audi, subaru). Realistic AT would be also at same line on importance.

Considering two previous GT were released, in Japan, two days before Christmas, and GT4 was released on December 28, 2004.

The last day of the year is pure speculation, but not stupid.

Well i don;t think a game would be released on new years eve because trading hours are much shorter. The shopping centre near me closes at 5pm on new years eve.

Anyway, the shop i work in had the release as the 5th of april, which i thought was reasonable, but it's now changed to the 30th of april. Reasonable delay if that turns out to be correct.
 
Argos in UK had 12th of March but has just changed it to simply May 2010.
But Asda and Tesco have changed theirs to 13 August 2010.

GT has no stupid release date. People will buy it no matter when it is available. Games aren't remembered for their first day sales. Also, Christmas is not a big deal in Japan, they give KFC to each other. :lol:

Come to think of it... GT has been at the NYIAS, in some form, for the past couple of years. Last year it was a Lexus ISF booth, and the years before that it was that Subaru Rally machine. If there is something new this year I will do my best to get video and impressions.
 
Have they announced or revealed any photomode locations and how many there will be? I assume all of the ones on GT5P will be on there.
 
I think we are all suffering from MGTNS - missing gran turismo news syndrome. I checked and the symptoms are agression, high pulse, sore egos and paranoia.

If not treated in time it could cause severe paranoid schizofrenia and in extreme cases lead to NOGT!

Too bad the only known vaccine is only available in japan... And it isn't even approved for use by humans yet! ****...
 
Yes^. And the only cure is the final game. I'm sick of the damn videos. OMG A NEW VIDEO OF THE SAME CAR WE SAW THE LAST 100 TIMES.
