We have to understand PD's priorities in GT5. Let's use this rim customization as an example. I'm sure standard rims swap on standard cars are easy as the coding is complete. What about premium rims on standard cars? Hmm...a bit iffy if the car got premium looking rims but everything else standard. What about standard rims on premium car? Ugh...not sure if it would look nice at all...

Swapping rims sounds like such a simple idea, but if you start thinking more about it, it's quite complicated. Would PD go out and re-do all the standard rims and make only premium rims? PD probably looked at its resources and its situation and didn't like the idea of standard rims swap with standard cars and premium rims with premium cars. As a result, they say "Scrap the whole standard rim thing and only have it for premium." This is similar to the GTPSP blacked out cockpit that PD originally planned for standard cars.

Wheels when driving become 2D anyway, all other looks would just be for visuals, I don't think it would be that hard to put a standard car on premium-ly modeled wheels. The standards shouldn't look that bad, or do they? It would be nice that they would stick to "It only does customization [on Premium cars]"

Can be a spelling/translation mistake like this... let's not forget that Polyphony is a japanese company...:

Like wth Standard issue means? in this phrase?

Standard issue would be something like OEM or the rims the car was delivered with.

I am a little disappointed I guess but its really not a huge deal. I got over it right after watching the video!

Me too especially watching the Zonda and CRZ vid, and periphary track feels like a little dream :)

It means wheels that came with the car, so if you want to paint your wheels, you need to buy new ones from GTAuto first.

standard issue rims are the rims that come with your car when you buy it.

Stock rims would have probably been a better use of words.

So you can only paint aftermarket wheels.

Exactly what Iam thinking.👍

Indiangame again?

Perhaps this particular link should be posted on the 1st page so people know immediately that it has already been posted several times, although that might just confuse people to think it is confirmed.

Yeah the positives massively, massively outweigh the lack of changing wheelrims on standards, though I will miss it.

Really haven't tought about it in THIS particular way.

Great understanding. And it seems plausible... thanks for clearing some of our toughts..

Its pretty difficult to not watch some of these new vids which people are uploading. Im resisting because for me it will take quite alot of the excitement out the game when i initially buy the game. Most people that have seen the vids will get the game and then know all the features inside the game which for me would be a anti-climax after waiting so many years.

hilarious. Every car has a horn, can sustain damage to a variable degree...but only 200 or so can have their wheels changed. What the hell is that?

Lame.
+1 :(

EDIT:

I hope so

I believe there's a quiet area of the garage that they let you buff your rim in piece:sly:

can one of the guys with the copy, please buy a standard, and make a video of the customizing available, i.e. rims, aero parts etc.

please otherwise I can see this thread increasing by at least 20 pages just speaking about the rims.

So it could possibly mean that instead of not being able to change wheels on standard cars, it could mean that you aren't able to change anything on Standard wheels?

Can someone please calm my fears?

Please someone tell me about this top gear test track special event.

Why is the track not listed in arcade mode?

Why is the special event just some random race with samba buses?

Why is it not the stig challenge anymore?

How do i just drive on the track without racing a damn samba bus?

How the heck do we just drive on the track?

I'll try and simplify this to show how simple it could be.

*This is a suggestion, this is not how GT5 works*

Aftermarket rims are all premium.
Standard cars have standard stock rims.
Premium cars have premium stock rims.

Stock rims cannot be interchanged, for example no Ferrari wheels on a Audi.

This way you can identify each car as 1, 2, 3, ... 1000...
You can then identify each aftermarket rim as a, b, c .... z...

So we can now say:
Car = 1
Rims = a

We can derive any possibility we wish.

The difference between standard & premium cars just means we can't change the stock rims about (If you want to complicate things, you could restrict standard cars to interchange only standard stock rims, and premium cars to only interchange premium stock rims.) But it would be possible to have aftermarket wheels on all cars.

Too bad I don't work for Polyphony.

You don't, I wonder why. Hmmm

LOL, everything is simple until you try and make it happen ;)

The track probably should be unlocked first.

Here's a prediction for you:

No customization on the standard cars, except for paint.
