I've had a real good look over the original thread where RDK worked out there was something wrong with the copy.

There is a lot of speculation, and some pople are holding that it is probably the final release, but these messages are due to online content not being accessible yet, because the same message comes up when you try to access online content.

It's BS. There is no way this would be the message you'd receive if the issue was online content being unavailable. It clearly denotes that this is a "version" of the game, in which some features are "not available". Most likely the online content is not available in this version, as well as museum and the other stages.

I also agree with the argument that this is not a review copy, because it would be mad to issue review copies with a limited campaign and crippled functionality.

I think these copies are almost certainly preview copies, and they have possibly been packaged in real or faked packaging for fraudulent sale, and unfortunatley our friends RDK and probably Tekken have been duped. It ties in with the Nurburgring glitch that others saw on an in store preview version.

Yea a preview copy makes a lot more sense. There is a 0 chance the reason for this is that it is a review copy. However I believe that it is a patch issue.
 
Regarding online functionalities, didn't some reviewers (don't remember who. Were they from Gamespot?) who got a review copy of GT5 recently write that there were already plenty of people online? This always sounded odd to me, as GTP users Tekken90, RDK and Rybak.d (and possibly also "middle finger" You5825 from youtube) have been unable to race online or use online functionalities.

Why would the review copy have features the final game doesn't? That makes 0 sense. Let's send reviewers a game with less tracks, lower damage models, less features..so they can write in their reviews that the game is lacking certain features it really doesn't? The only logical explanation is that certain features in the game require a day one patch. Then again this whole GT5 thing has been like nothing I have ever experienced in gaming, so I wouldn't put doing something illogical behind them.

review copies have different disk images and are usually blank with only text (so no picture of a rim)

If i was Kaz I would make a bunch of incomplete disks so that those who would get them early cant really ruein the whole game for everyone...right?

I doubt 2 days of delay would have a significant impact on sales in Europe. However, it could be a different story in the US as it is Black Friday.

I meant like another big delay...remember this is how it all started back with the nov2 release date, europe's date got delayed a couple days at first and then the inevitable. I'm 99% sure it's not a repeat of what happened but i'm just saying it would be real bad for sony and GT if they did it again

But that doesn't explain making a review copy for a game and making it have less features. How could a reviewer for instance make a comment about the online or damage if they can't witness it themselves? A preview copy would seem more likely however looking at the instruction manual that would seem silly to print a book with that many pages then take it back to print more books with different pages. It would cost to much money. I doubt Kaz would want to toy with people the way you suggest, but then again i really don't know the guy so I don't know.

Gran turismo 1, 2, 3 and 4 didnt have downloads......they will NOT make a game that doesent work if you dont have fast internet...only the online racing would be effected and maybe it would be slow when you download DLC updates (cars they put in the game in the future, just like prolouge did) but...they will never EVER make a game that doesent completly work if you have a slow internet connection or no internet...everything should work other than online and DLC
 
You guys seem to believe that even if it is a preview copy doing the rounds, that it means the actual retail version is suddenly going to have all these new features like more tracks, different damage, different tuning and parts etc.

It won't. It just won't have the error when you try to access the museum.

You're creating false hope. We've seen everything the game is going to offer.

Or maybe all the fancy design is left for the CE edition. I can't see them changing an entire instruction booklet for 2 weeks time on a couple of "leaked" copies....

They already spent tens of millions of dollars (don't know how much exactly) on making GT5, so another couple thousand dollars at most to print the manuals and preview copies won't hurt.

what if the feature they tried to access is an online only feature.... and to get online you have to have the patch... if you don't have the patch you can't use the feature.... that seems perfectly reasonable if the feature is an online only feature.

We all hope so... the only strange thing is that box and manual looks original, and the game disc too (it's labelled), review copy or previews usually looks different from originals.... who knows, the only sure thing is that the game shown by tekken in his videos lacks a lot of stuff we've seen in the past months...

Another reason those games didn't have downloads were because of system limitations..... Almost every PS3 game has a day 1 patch.

again their reason to do this is? It just doesn't add up and I think a bunch of people are using this as a reason to hope for whatever feature they wanted in the game at day 1 would be in the game. People are letting reason get in the way of what they are hoping for. Still with the PS3 no game is limited to what is released with the game, Almost every major game has DLC available at some point, there is no reason GT5 would be any different.

Sorry I may have worded things wrong

The cases we have seen seem like preview builds (that stores got, or shows and events got) to show off the game (so think sony store NYC for example)

the review copies are full, none have leaked im sure, and IGN, Gamespot etc are playing them right now and writing their reviews

Think of it as a movie, we see "screeners" poping up online, those full versions of the movies go to reviewers (so Ebert would get a screener and review the movie)..

we have not seen a review copy (screener) only elaborate demos, again and again and again

Your absolutley right. I'm not sure myself who said it, I think I read it on Neogaf's forums that someone there said exactly what your saying. There are reviewer's that are getting into online races.

I heard it was Museum, its possible its online only, but the wording, "not available in this version of the game", seems suspicious

You're not thinking about it properly. Gran Turismo isn't a linear game. Games like Call Of Duty, Arkham, Uncharted etc, would need the full game in review copies because they have a story. GT doesn't. Its much an much the same what ever track you're using. The reviewers are given 90% of the cars and a portion of the tracks. If you look, they've been given a track with day night, Rain, Snow/ice and dirt. They are there to sample not play the full game.

Putting it this way, if the guys that have the full version had the full version, their consoles would have been shut down remotely by Sony. Its as simple as that. I still can't believe people didn't cotton on to it. It makes absolute no sense that a game company would just allow these copies to fall off the back of a truck and do nothing about it. And of course, sony will do what ever they can to get sales. The leaking last week was fantastic because it took a hit to the COD hype. They run a business not a charity. They will toy with people until they get what they want and thats sales.

Man at this point, I don't know what to make of all these videos and preview/review copies, or if Kaz is playing a giant prank on us for major lolz ( I would actually chuckle if it was a big prank).

Some people are desperate now that its the last stretch, and the last stretch is always the longest.
 
One week to go and everybody is getting so damn crazy about the game and how it looks or not...errors...dlc...gliches...etc...JUST WAIT UNTIL THE GAME IS IN YOUR OWN HANDS TO JUDGE IT!!!...come on people! (sorry i don´t like to scream like that...)

They would shut systems down so fast if people had the full version, weve seen it happen with other games (Kinect locked up xboxes for example)

But using your logic say the review copy didn't have customization, and person A pretty much buys their game on what a certain review site says. If they uncover this feature as non element they will lose their sale. As far as the game leaking it happens all the time. GT5 is no different and it won't be the last, I'm sure they do all they can but in the end when you handle things at this volume its going to happen. Sony has never remotely shut down peoples system for playing games early so why would they start now? Also if the system is not hooked up to the internet how would they even know said person had the game?

Name one example where people playing a game early had there system shut down by Sony.... I know a ton of people who were playing black ops at least a week before release... What xbox does and sony is completely different.

I don't buy the release day patch theory either. RDK got to the end of the game after level 17, and can't access a bunch of features. It doesn't make sense that you would need a release day patch to proceed past that point. Plus the message states "this version". That would mean it became a different version after the patch.

I just don't think it holds water.
