Well... after some 8h playing, I have to admit I understand some critics (those that actual played it and have found/stated these "faults", not haters).
Some loading times were plain silly in the beginning. Especially returning to Home on occasion and being left with the GT logo only, for a minute or two. No "saving" or "installing" info. It hanged once (when I selected restart on the the first license test, the only one I bothered with so far). But, after some time it seamed to settle down. I left it doing a full install during the night and expect it to be even better tonight.
It's not perfect in some graphics. Like some shadows. But you don't notice it when you're racing.
And some menus... bit unnecessarily complex.
Menu BGM annoying (always found it, always turn it off...)
It actually doesn't look and feel like "a game". Which is not truly a problem for
me.
But the driving?
Unbelievable...
For the 1st time, I can drift, from day one. For the 1st time in GT, I just find myself heel toeing, and it works great. I can go fast, I can overdrive and recover my mistakes, and I can hoon. It's not "easy" a-la arcade NFS style, but "easy" by applying "skills" to the controls (G25) and catching the car at the right moment. Shift-lock, clutch kickin', heel-toeing, Scandinavian flick, anything goes and works (as I feel it) just as in the real thing. The only thing missing is G's so you can really "feel" it
I guess IGN got it right in their review. As a "game", lots to improve, but "the real driving simulator" indeed.
I'll be waiting on those improvements Kaz spoke of yesterday to make the "gaming", the visual and other (to me) secondary things better.
Meanwhile, I'll be driving my butt off... Like I always said, "gimme the driving, then take your time to get other stuff right and push it as DLC/patches".
Oh, and the online B-Spec Bob PC control is one of those. Not available yet. And he drives like a drunken teenager. At least for now...
