yeah thats true, but the time attacks at Tsukuba are much more entertaining to watch i believe.. plus with such a short lap time (sub 1 minute) the differences in times can be down to the hundredths and thousandths of a second..

someone should start a Tsukuba Thread though.. i have no qualms looking after it i just dont have enough posts to start a thread, as im a gtp noobie 👍

perhaps you start it XEPEGTP??

Someone should really start up this thread!!!

i was wondering in which race class you get to do some rallying? :)
and what cars are needed? :)

Haha wow, I was up late when I did that test, just checked it is 2 laps! Was a breeze. Thanks 👍 sorry for the confusion.

Haha, no problem. Always willing to help out another GTP'er when I can.👍

EDIT: Has anybody got gold in the Nurburgring Special Event yet? I'm just getting silver.

Just won the Veyron and took it for a drive. What a pig. Will probably never use it again. Doesn't deserve premium treatment.

Yer I got silver too, but that was down to a few little mistakes that added up to about 8 seconds off of a gold.

Love those Merc cars though!!!

Ok, I'm starting to get a bit frustrated now.

I have finished all races in beginner and amateur and I am about to complete the proffesional series aswell. Now, I need a Lupo for the Lupo Cup and I would prefer to have a TVR V8 for the British Lightweights but they seem to never ever appear in the used cars room. It's always tons of "new" japanese cars there but never anything I can use.

An interesting comparison is between the amount of "nationality specific" events in the first three series and the overrepresentation of japanese cars in the used car room (or, the entire game). There are 5 events that require japanese cars in beginner, amateur and professional. However, there are 11 events that require non-japanese cars.

Sort of unbalanced, I think. Does somebody experience the same problem?

I've been playing this since Wednesday afternoon, having booked them off work to play GT5, and thought I'll chime in with some impressions.

Since the opening of GT5, I've been struggling to focus my attention in any one area of the game. I have Licences to complete, A spec races to take part in, I'm continually drawn to special events as they're so diverse and exotic compared to the normal races, cars I want to buy in the dealers, a garage that needs sorting, GT TV has a special on Goodwood 2009 I want to download, Arcade mode is drawing me to rally races I've yet to take part in, I want more money to tune my GT-R '07 (That can beat any car I've tried it with) and it was only last night that I discovered photo mode. The game is so diverse, sprawling and polished, I just can't focus and I'm acting like a kid in a sweet shop.

I also can't find enough superlatives to do this game justice. It's polished, definitive, exhaustive and beautiful. Despite this, it's also esoteric, bewildering and ugly all at the same time.

Although I don't want to mention those lesser moments, they are there. The loading and install times at the opening of the game were bloody ridiculous, and even then, I was still hit by network issues and install times thereafter. Trackside detail is both wonderful yet on some tracks it's completely bland, lacking any complexity with stretched textures and plain details. The Premium cars are truly a thing of beauty, the best recreation of cars that I've ever seen in any videogame, PC or Console. But on the other side you have the standard cars which are relics of the PS2 era, some being faithful recreations, others being horrible looking slabs of polygons, with 4 moving wheels.

If those faults bother you then I can imagine you'll struggle or not even bother with this game. However, if you're like me and class them as chinks in the armour, or you're completely blind to it (And with those install times, you better be!) I can't think of one other driving game that comes close to GT5 that is so full of passion and content, it surpasses everything else I've played. With only 25% of the game completed, and a wheel stand pro yet to be delivered, GT5 is going to consume hundreds of hours over the following years. Absolutely brilliant.

I posted some pictures I took of the Ferrari 458 in the Photo mode thread, but thought I'll share one of them in here!

The TopGear Challenges are the hardest. As in stupidly difficult, like a "true" challenge.
The other seam more like Licenses (so far)...

The Elise seems to have ice blocks instead of rear tires :s
TIP: Left foot brake and tap the throttle as you do, so it acts as a stabilizer (adapt on a PAD). All aids off. That's how I made to 2nd on the 1st time I finally completed the 2 laps without spinning, going off or crashing.

I got silver across the board. I got alot of work to do. My time my first go through the whole track is 9:25.944. Mistakes and all.

Its the little mistakes that kills the lap for me, like missing a gear or not being fast enough through a certain section. It is mentally and physically draining on the intermediate level with the SLS!! But I bloody love it though!!

I haven't even bothered with the Top Gear challenges yet! I thought Lotus produce there cars with semi slicks?

I got that car. Get some medium race tyres, Full weight reduction, stiff suspension and it goes like a dream. (btw it is not a premium car).

I also tuned it to 1190BHP and maxed it out at 268mph on Le Mans circuit without chicanes - I got the 111 metres per second trophy for that.

Just bought a f430 Scuderia and FULLY modified it but bought s3 tyres :D

Sounds fantastic in the replays.

Oh I did the first AMG challenge. I'm just not fast enough in some sections and too fast in others. I'm gonna try the SLS next.

Lotus does, but for that Top Gear challenge, they put the worst tires possible on the Lotus.

Just fully tunned my sls stealth is now has 795bhp and goes like stink!

The lotus is wildly unstable at 30mph :D There is definately a bug there. I know people have supposedly done it but that's just sheer determination and luck i think.
MR cars are the best handling cars of all having the engine in the optimum place, like F1 cars. This thing is about as much fun as the clap. An Elise is actually supposed to be very solid , manuverable and responsive. This is as many have said, like driving on ice.
There is NO WAY ,no matter what anyone says, that this is SUPPOSED to handle like this :D

I think it's the tires that's causing the car to be like that.

Indian Jones 4 is on TV and it's got Kubelwagens and Schwimmenwagons in it  kinda makes me want to buy one.

I just had the most fustrating, but ultimately rewarding 3 hours of gran turismo ever.

I'm a new wheel user, and coped well, on my civic, golf, and the early races, licenses etc. Then i brought myself the V6 clio. You may scoff at this, but the added power, really brought forward a new challenge.

I really had to learn how the car behaves. Time is different inside a car than outside, if that makes sense. I had to wait to get on the throttle alot more than before, and really had to modulate the brake pedals, otherwise i was in the barrier, or facing the wrong way. Learning how to properly throw the weight of the car around, was really challenging, and took me a while to get to grips with how it all works. just simple things like making sure the wheels were straight, coming out of a corner etc, took a real hold. completing the french cup, getting golds on both felt great.

And by then the behaviour patterns of the car, or added power were starting to become second nature, or though if i lost concentration, i normally end up facing the wrong way. You really got to hand it to racing drivers- the thought of racing , or driving ferraris, and zondas is actually quite terrifying. And the best bit? GT doesn't rely on visual representation (ala shift) to supply this, just pure beautiful physics.

man i love this game.

Got some major issues B-Speccing the Yaris Cup in Beginner. My car is tuned up with a Class 5 driver. Engine, weight reduction, suspension, tires are Race Medium. The car keeps stopiing on the side of the road, along with the AI, I have no idea whats going on. Anyone else had issues?

Man, in the SLS challenge, I keep getting exactly 6 seconds off from the gold.:dunce:

Atleast I'm at level 15 now and I can get a ZR-1.

EDIT: I just had a thought, on the Nurburgring full lap with the SLS, If you pass all 15 other drivers, would you get a gold trophy?

Its a good Merc series and it handle pretty darn good in the high speed corners.

I haven't seen someone put it better yet! You get some real credit from me. :)

👍

I'm doing a lot of B-Speccing at the moment, i'm almost at level 5 and i'll need to do this event soon.

I'll check to see if this is one of the first game-breakers, but hopefully I won't get the problem...... ;)

I'm no lotus driver but surely they don't get shipped with ice tyres as standard? are they being "clipped" performance wise cos in real life they grip like go karts and would win over honda in class?

Bugs me, my mate took me out in his 96 elise and it was rivetted to the road, knocked my head against side windows without so much as a squeal.

Anyone got experience of a 111r in real life? surely the power difference doesn't make it a killer?

a respected member of the forza motorsport forums (read: not just a fanboy) who has owned a ferrari F355 and currently owns a BMW M6 claims that all the elises he's driven are not nearly that slidey. I think it has to do with a combination of the comfort hard tires on the car in-game and a small glitch in the car's physics.

My point exactly. Glitch.

Haha, no problem. Always willing to help out another GTP'er when I can.👍

I've got all gold in the 300SL bit but haven't attempted the others.

The Lotus on the TG track? I was leading that before the follow through. Won the race by about 5 seconds

Yea some people have done it, but it feels wrong.

I agree. The car would be a death trap on public highways

@ VYPA-SQUAD_Ace, got a steering wheel?

Nope, I'm on the controller. Too broke for a wheel for now.
