It isn't a question of lazyness, the purpose of that taped interior is saving polygons, the less polygons the better game/PS3 performance, with only one car in game there's no performance impact if the wheels are full modeled, but when you have 16 cars in game the FPS would drop much more than PD wants.

Haha, that is an awesome story. This kind of stuff is the reason why Gran Turismo is "The Real Driving Simulator". Forza hasn't proven much yet to their effectiveness in the real world yet(as far as I know), while GT5 has had GT Academy and stories like yours.

I'm just glad I dont love Need for speed the same way I love GT5... I'd be dead now "What do you mean I cant take every corner sideways at 170mph?"

I see what you mean about the tires but, what about that shady line splotch around the bottom of the 2.03's door? :crazy:

^ Good eye! I really do hope in the near future that there will be a front license plate delete option.

-> I always cringed whenever I see my digi-S2K had that license plate up front on which my real-S2k doesn't. Plus that US/JDM-spec front license plate on the V12 Vantage looks hideous! :yuck:

That "hole" requires the backside of the tire you never see to be fully modeled, thus more polygons.

GT5 is pushing the PS3 quite hard and thus needs to cut more corners wherever possible than the average game does.
 
Not sure exactly why thats a big deal considering its a part Never seen 90% of the time.

I've modeled cars for games in the past, so yes, I know what I'm talking about.

Well whats the time difference between the two photos? its taken that long for it to be noticed
 
I don't know what your talking about with the "hole". I can see through both rims, the brake discs are clearly visible on both.

It's the back-faces of the tyres / wheels. The inner surfaces are solid rubber.
So, look behind / beyond the brakes.


I don't agree that it would require too many more polygons to render the inner edges of the wheels properly. They're modeled fully on the inside already, and these solid / opaque faces are multiple polygons themselves by necessity. There must be another reason, maybe there were visual issues / artefacts due to a lack of detailed modelling on the undersides of the cars - e.g. being able to see through parts of the car that you shouldn't be able to. Or perhaps there was an issue related to transparent faces and the requirement for convex shapes, so that looking through the backs of the wheels left most of the wheel / tyre etc. invisible beyond that plane.

Maybe it's simply due to having aftermarket wheels available and this is a shortcut to avoid having to model each available wheel option's holes separately.
I'm mentioning this because I suspect each car model has to be 'remodelled' with every single wheel option, why else isn't every wheel available for every car?
Since this already seems a lot of work somehow (if not it would've been 'fixed' in an update I guess), having to additionally make a lot of accurate holes as well might simply be too much.

Oh, and the person who decides which wheels become available for each car (if it indeed is only a choice being made) needs to either visit an optician or have a comprehensive course on automotive do's and dont's.
For example the Beetle (but there are many more examples), not having period looking wheels like the Torq Thrust available is one thing I don't like nor understand (since they are available on the Samba), but the choice of modern wheels, apart from the BBS RS, is equally disappointing.
There are other modern wheels in GT5 which would be a much better fit. :grumpy:

I have a question concerning the scalle of last DLC pack.

100Ko for 5 Premium cars..... It's crazy.... 20Ko the 3D car ! and 100 Ko the track.
I dont know why but i think this things'r all ready in GT5 or was coming with some last updated and not only in the car pack dlc.

I'd be pretty confident in saying all the DLC so far has been downloaded in updates and the tiny download in the DLC is like a confirmation you are allowed access to it.

So maybe they'r another no seeing things (track, cars etc) in the last Update folders in GT5.

Possibly, but I think the fact the updates come just before DLC isn't a coincident. I don't think they'd but out the download so far before the next batch of DLC.
 
Here's another lighthearted write-up (or type-up)...

For the first time, I played GT5 today using my Driving Force Pro. I mostly did some test drives to try to adjust myself to using the steering wheel. The feel is much more different using a wheel as opposed to a basic gamepad. I'm probably one of the most old-fashioned folks you'll ever come across. I used that car around High Speed Ring and my Racing Modified Honda Civic (EK) around Deep Forest. The steering wheel does provide great feel for all the bumps and all the undulations on the road. I sometimes have to fight the steering wheel to keep my car stable. I will be using more cars on more tracks to try to get adjusted to the wheel. I don't usually race with my steering wheel, so this is all a brand-new experience for me in GT5. Using a wheel really makes you have to earn solid laps and great victories since you have to put in more effort.


I still honestly enjoy GT5 regardless. May have to keep working on my steering wheel technique, though.
 
Hmm, As a post said awhile ago. "GT5 DLC to be released every 2 months."

We had one in December then January.. does this mean PD will be skipping the "regular" february in the schedule? Or was january a bonus?

It's going to be a great experience John. Watch how every car feels different, and how the weight of the car is going to transfer through your wheel. Get ready for a great new experience have fun.
 
I was wondering if PD would make the Toyota TS030 since its been shown to public now? :D

you'll get used to it in about 5 hours of constant driving (not including menus).

Try every car type as well, particularly heavy vehicles and rally cars in rally tracks to get used to the FFB (heavy and lightweight feel, losing traction and so on), and open wheelers. Then you could try doing the licenses and special events again.

Finally, the greatest thing about getting a wheel is you can use it in pc games and sims, some of which have great tutorials (gtr2, rbr, lfs, etc.)

Since I recently tried the new time trial, has anybody else noticed how HUGE the FT 86 is on the screen? It takes a lot of space.

I remember when we first were able to download it, and my God, it's wide in 3rd person mode.
