Or they actually havn't improved anything and what you see is actually the current state of the game, and you'll be waiting for a big disappointment. 👍

If what we are seeing is the final version, consider me happy.

I'd agree that the sounds are not necessarily as representative of reality as the images are. I'd agree that there is more significant scope for improvement in the sounds than in many other areas of GT.... It's not quite as bad as people would make out.

Of course, its not BAD sound, its actually very good and clean(save GT4 where the samples were too short), most importantly, very very close to real life.

I think more "organic" would be my advice about car sounds.

So who is in Tokyo this week?

Right one sounds better because he is playing GT5 Prologue SPEC 1. For some reason PD reduced car sound quality in SPEC 2 and 3.

Here is a little comparison.

SPEC 1

SPEC 2 or 3

I agree it does sound better. However, the first one also sounds like a GT-R with an exhaust system, not a stock one (I have heard both stock and modified in real life). The stock GT-R sounds rather sedate. In that way, the second one is more realistic.

Then explain me why my Spec III copy of GT5 sounds like the second F599 vid I posted and nothing like the first... never noticed a change like that and I'm being playing in the same setup since the first Japan GT5P Spec I.

I hope that you don't end to that conclusion just showing youtube vids, yours only show the difference I was pointing.

Remove SPEC III update and I'm sure that you will notice the difference.

Tv player?

Put a 5.1 in your life, only the subwoofer will make a BIG difference. The sound mixing is very different in a stereo tv speaker than a direct multi channel output. The game sound is tuned for a 5.1, like the image is tuned for a 1080p tv not a SDTV.

If that is right, PD has a major problem with 2.1 mixing. The video on right sounds much better on my 2.1 system than one on the left.

Actually i found that Spec 2 had better sounds, it even had disc brake sound, and by the way ive never managed to hear it on Spec 3

check this 2007! video.. PD always uses fake sounds on trailers. hell in the R8 part the engine is reving up but the car is braking 👎
Well, the clue is in the year, it's 3 years old...why judge based on that fact alone? Besides, if you are referring to the R8 that comes in around 53 seconds, how do you figure that it is braking? You don't see any brake lights, but you do see camera movement that makes you think it might be slowing down.

Haven't seen this mentioned here yet: (I saw it on NeoGAF)

Sony Puts 3D Gran Turismo 5 on Display
Upcoming event highlights Sony contents and 3D technology.
Posted May 19, 2010 at 14:30, By Anoop Gantayat

Gran Turismo 5 is going on public display later this week at Sony's Dot Park event. There's going to be something slightly different from the past Tokyo Game Show showings and demos, though. This time, players will be able to sample the upcoming racer in full 3D!

Dot Park will be held from May 21 through May 25 at Roppongi Hills in central Tokyo. The event will highlight Sony's various music, movie and game contents and artists through talk and demo sessions.

Sony will of course be highlighting 3D at the event. Among the planned events, director Paul Anderson will discuss the 3D Resident Evil IV After Life in a talk session. Digital super group Genki Rockets will also host a 3D concert.

The Gran Turismo 5 3D demo will be playable in a special cafe inside Roppongi Hills throughout the course of the Dot Park event. Visitors will also get to sample other Sony 3D technology as well, including 3D Bravia televisions.

Outside of Gran Turismo, Sony will highlight PlayStation 3 technology in a talk session hosted by senior vice president Yutaka Teiji.

While not strictly related to games,, Rez and Space Channel 5 creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi will also appear at the event. He'll host a talk session discussing the creation of 3D video.

For a full stage schedule and other details, visit the Dot Park event page.

Maybe it was mentioned because Shift is the only game I'm aware of that sounds authentic?
Can I ask how you included yourself into a conversation between me and another person? :odd:

Besides, your complaint rings a little hollow when you seem to like those truck tire sounds from a certain game.
And, where, throughout anything I've recently said were tire sounds mentioned? What? :odd:

Holy hell! That second vid sounds fantastic! Why does my version of prologue and the 599 sound like the first one? HALP!! I need that sound in my life 👍

Give these men/women knowledge Zero!! All honesty Zero is dead on I remember getting flamed for saying GT5P sounds good and that a 5.1 makes a huge difference. It really does though as you can see in the comparison videos

 You guys!
You talk about 5.1 like its a new phenomenon. I've been using it for aaaages! Go back to prologue and tell me your version sounds like the second video though! Because it wont. I have no idea where that awesome sound came from!

Man you're lucky! Updated to spec III and still have awsome sound. I want this

Yes! I hope this is true. How can i find out what version my copy is? I play online a lot so i probably updated to specIII at some point. I have the blu-ray version with the GT-R on the front. It doesnt say spec'X' on it anywhere, so I might try installing on a new profile and see what happens. Sounds like it'd work. In theory

This. How do i do this?

In the time between GT4 and GT5 we've gotten: 3 Forza games, 7 Need For Speed games, 4 Burnout games, 5+ generic, monosyllabic racing games (Blur, Dirt, Fuel, Grid, Pure, etc.) ...and now 2 Test Drive Unlimited games!

This makes no sense. The only game in that list that has anything to do with GT is Forza. Need for Speed hardly counts, since all those games are usually made by different studios. Blur, Dirt, Pure and TDU also have nothing to do with it.

He's right about the Audi though. I don't know why, but there are two version where one you can see the Audi braking, and the other, we can't. Here's one where you can see it braking:

You must have original Japanese copy of GT5 Prologue. European and American versions are already updated to SPEC 2.

Turn off the Pc. Buy the Mrs some choccies, put on a good film and dim the lights. You may get lucky and get some different action.

guess i linked to the wrong video, the point is thats a prologue video from 07 and prologue released in late 07 in japan and none of those engine sounds are in the game, just saying PD likes to fake things in the trailers

Don't forget that Kaz said that PD is going to give us updates on GT5P up until the release of the FULL GT5.
;)

Yes, if this goes on we have midi sounds when GT5 is released.

It will be interesting when I do get my hands - and wheel - on GT5, and experience the romance of my life. Then to come here and see all the complaining, I'll be wondering if they've been on the same planet I have. I associate myself with the remarks of my friend, Famine.
Shift sounds no where near authentic, it sounds dramatic but not authentic.

I think people complaiing about the engine sounds in GT5 have got it wrong, the engine notes are fine. There is something missing, but I think it has more to do with the way thoes notes resonate inside the car than the notes themselves. Some games try to replicate that by making the notes more powerful and to a degree succeed. Games like Shift enhance the sounds to stupid levels and throws in mechanical whines and noises that shouldn't even be there. GT5's engine sounds if anything lack power, but the notes themselves are generally pretty good.

Actually, it is there already, a few pages back. :)

You're right, I finally found it. Thanks and sorry for one-upping.

Seems like even if no GTP'ers make it, there should be some other kind of coverage of this...

I agree with you on that Dave. Also what GT does better then most game is switch up the audio from interior driving to replay sounds. I love this about GT all the other games i play Ex Forza3 and Shift keep the same audio from interior mode to replay mode.

A trailer or demo is not the final game, and as such are never claimed to be representative. Lots of things can change for lots of reasons during the development and marketing of a game.
