What if, the premium models are DLC cars and PD will go T10 on us. That would make everyone explode. I hope I'm wrong.

Then the world will explode.

Apparently, people are under the impression that premium means its one of the few cars with all the interior damage modeling or some useless nonsense. Either way, its really meaningless. Besides, there is a Mustang in GT5P with "premium" in its name yet for some reason, no one went nuts over it. oh well, in before the "OMG, GT5P haz premiums too?!!" comments.

OMG!!!! GT5P haz premium automotives too!? :p

That was interesting to notice. One sure does hope we get the Tourist Trophy treatment with our drivers. That way, no one will look like bob.

Seeing that we were told just that on numerous occasions, yes.
Problem is, they seem to be using "PREMIUM" to describe more than just one type of vehicle.

I wasn't saying it was just cars per say(admittingly I didn't say vehicle either). Unless there's some Cadillac Escalade I'm not aware of, I have seen no other vehicles in anything GT5 related so I said cars meaning certain vehicles without saying it, not just cars in general.

The real problem is that we should not have to hope for parity between car models, we deserve it especially after all these years of patience with little to no confirmation of the details surrounding the game.

The nearest competitor has parity why can't GT5. Everything I say here only pertains to the use of the dash view, I am not expecting all cars to have the engine/suspension details to be modeled. The nearest competitor has 500/dlc fully detailed car models just for the their photo mode, the cars drop down in detail noticeably in the race.

So that means that all the new modeling mostly goes to waste, since those high end details only appear in photo mode. It may help with future games but that is another matter altogether. All the 500/dlc cars have dash views and that was done in 3 years, Plus all the custom bumpers/spoilers modeling as well, they even modeled the roll cages.

All I am saying is that there is no reason why GT5 can not have the dash view on every car, especially if the other car game can if just for their photo mode/advertising. 👎 And NO the blackened/GTpsp dash view would be unacceptable for such a high quality next-gen GT title, and I do not want to hear about super HD quality GT4 models either , a last gen model is a last gen model not matter what the res, and is also unacceptable after all these years. Everyone else has fully next gen models GT better have too.

Everything is tied to the detail of the car models. If the standard cars take a hit that graphical detail has to go somewhere else, and from the looks of the track models it has not gone there. Lower detail means that we better see 3d trees/better envions or 35+ cars on the track or else. The current track models are only acceptable due to the highly detailed car models, if you take those away why use 2d trees/spectators to compensate. We would not only have to deal with last gen trees/tracks but cars as well, which would not make any sense after all these years. :dunce:

We are under the impression PREMIUM means higher level of damage because that's what we were told. That was my reply to your being confused as to why we have the damage related impression when it comes to the term PREMIUM.
As for the other part about not meaning vehicles or cars specifically, what else could you mean? This is GT5, there are only cars.

Shift sounds no where near authentic, it sounds dramatic but not authentic.
Well, I did post that pretty early before work... :p

I'd forgotten how much people raked Shift's sounds over the coals. Indeed, it almost sounds like you're inside the transmission! However, it does have the aggressive quality of a race car in its sound. The only game I recall that comes close is GTR, and... oh Lord, racing a Saleen S7 in chase view gave me a headache from all the *CHUG! THUNK! POW!* racket in the exhaust. Authentic, probably, but it also buried the tire sounds, making it nearly impossible for me to take corners aggressively.

I'm sure certain people will hate me for saying this, but I like this about Prologue and the TT demo. Maybe the sound could be more aggressive. Maybe distorted a little. But you can hear stuff that you need to. As many others have posted, you can be disappointed if you want to. I'm going to love every minute of it.

And here comes that "premium" issue again. I still don't see the big deal if some cars can't be damaged. Well, some will, race those cars if you want to bang them up real good. And maybe damage won't be realistic. What game is?

Kazunori sensei and his team are preparing a pretty darn special package for us. There will not be a game like this for a good while yet. Just think of the PC sims running on systems 3 or 4 times as powerful as the PS3, at least graphically, and yet most look like PS2 games in HD. And the trees are sure ugly.

How many racing games have 500 cars in them, let alone a thousand?

What were we complaining about again?

Complain all you want. I'm going to show a great deal of gratitude and reverence for a group of people who spent almost all of the last half decade of their lives, or more, to give us such a gift, that many of us will be racing for years. I know I don't have it yet, but, "Arigatou, sensei." 👍

You said this:

Thought you were pointing out I only meant cars when I was saying that I said cars in the context of meaning the vehicles without actually saying it. I kinda made a passive response on that to Sam48 as he was wondering why suddenly everyone went nuts over the fact the corvette was a premium car.

I just want the game :( Everything else is just wasted time and fillers

All GT5 cars better be at least as detailed as the cars in GT5p (dash view included) , or GT5 would be relegated to those lowly PC games people speak of. :grumpy:

I see that you're new. Welcome to GT Planet! Anyway...

The lack of parity is something I certainly don't want to see happen in GT5 either, but as far as I can tell the only difference between gameplay and PD's released screenshots is the amount of jaggies and some motion blur here or there. I might be wrong, you might see differently, but I don't notice the difference much at all. As opposed to, say, a game like FM3, where the dropoff in quality is immediately and blatantly obvious (so obvious that you can see it happen right before the start of every race).

All the 500/dlc cars have dash views and that was done in 3 years, Plus all the custom bumpers/spoilers modeling as well, they even modeled the roll cages.

You're forgetting the quality of the car models in FM3. Compare a car in that game to the same car in GT5, NFS Shift, GRID or DiRT. The Forza version will be markedly less detailed, inaccurate, and if you look hard enough you'll find that Turn 10 cut corners all over the place. So you can't say that the development team's ability to model interiors and damage for all 500 cars over a period of two years is an example all others should follow. Other developers actually tend to put more care into their game, instead of rushing it to the market.

I actually believe the tracks standing alone, as they are now look very, very good. I haven't seen a more beautiful, detailed representation of the Nurburgring than the 24 hr circuit in GT5.

Im sure most of you heard of Man Furismo Jive, its at the end of the video.

Sorry if posted I haven't been here for a few weeks so don't bring out the pitchforks :scared:

Yeah, thats front page news, but thats quite a surprise to see a youtube video not removed by Sony.

Damn you're right, now I remember Jordan or someone saying Sony took it down when he brought it here :banghead:. My bad, will delete post.

At least I figured out how to embed videos :dunce:

You as well as I know that the car models in GT5 destroy every other game out there, whether in the race or in the menu. The car models in GT5 are by far the biggest reason for my crazy hype for this game, and to take them away like that would be a complete and utter let down, millions of magnitudes higher then any online mode or short coming in the past. The models in GT5 really separate it from the rest and if they were to disappear, what do they have left to tout, a last gen game on a next gen system. If that was the case what have been taking them so long in the first place.👎

I also know that the in game cars in Forza 3 pale in comparison, it is just that their photo mode cars are somewhat close to GT5, their rims have very little polygonal edges, tires are perfectly rounded, etc. When I say Forza 3 cars I am talking about their photo versions not in race versions. The photo version have crazy details, and they were modeled in a fairly short time, so that is why I use them as an example and not the in race ones. But yeah the Forza 3 in game cars do not compare in any capacity.

It is just that seeing GT5p and knowing the possibility that the rest of GT5's cast of cars could poorly detailed in comparison somewhat disheartening after such a long wait. It would be no better than the other car games.

What makes it worse is that Forza 3 would the only real alternative if GT5's great car models are a mere 20 percent of the car list. I would be forced to buy Forza 3, and after the complaints/glitches/poor in game models I would not be happy about it at all period. I have seen all the other games you mention (Their cars are not in the same league) , and it would hurt me 10 times more to go to them instead of GT5 because of detail that was not ment to be. :(

Yes, GT5 tracks due look really good, but if the cars detail takes a hit then the trees/etc would need to be rectified as to compensate for the poor car models.

I'm not sure I really agree with that. There's more to Gran Turismo than graphics, and although I (like you) appreciate the intense amount of detail that goes into every car model, there are so many other reasons I love this series. The physics, the car and track selection, the intuitive career mode, the attention to detail in all aspects, etc. If I played games based on graphics alone, then NFS Shift would be my favorite game of last year.

I completely agree. If the discrepancy between Premium and Standard is as wide as some of the less optimistic people on this forum believe, I'll be heartbroken. Having such a gap between graphical fidelity and damage modeling is essentially saying that some cars adhere to the laws of physics while others do not. :nervous:

Graphics do not make a game. I don't know why people keep mentioning graphics before anything else, that's quite frankly, far more important.

I would agree and disagree with this.

Once again, graphics do NOT make or break a game, and why would buying another perfectly good game "hurt" you? Some of you really act as if GT were a cure for cancer or something.

I played the shift demo (ps3) last year and it again paled in comparison to GT5p. Poor handing, no to very little AA, laggy/glitchy and 30fps to boot just the thought of turning to that for my driving needs makes me

The Pc version I hear is better, but I do not have a pc capable of running it well at all.

All I know is that all of GT5's cars better be as detailed (dashboard view) as the ones in GT5p, or GT5 and all it's places of discussion will become a minefield of trolls and hate.:nervous:

Taking those highly detailed car models away would give GT less ammo to combat all those lesser titles. GT does have a lot of stuff it excels in, but also stuff that it does not. Removing the highly detailed cars would make all of its short comings several times worse. If the simple subject of trees could cause such an uproar just imagine.

People would have one more thing to complain about, but unlike the trees/sounds/shifting there would be no one to defend GT on those grounds. (Premium vs. Standard)

The car models are easily one of the most important aspects of GT and if they falter, it will lessen the positives and accentuate the negative. :(

People will list GT5's weaknesses, and if the car models are among them I fear for the series, especially after they had shown so much promise in this area. The car models should be no where near the complaint list regarding GT.

To be honest, GT would still be GT if it looked like FM3, but it doesn't. PD have gone above and beyond the expectations to create a phenomenally rendered game. Which is why I love GT

Even TXR series wasn't the most detailed game, and the cars weren't modeled that great, bur it was a very fun game. However, if PD spiced up GT4 code and made the cars look a little better and added a few new cars, dropped some modifications, and then later charged me money to DL cars I should've gotten with the game, I don't think I would be much of a fan of the GT series anymore.

Wait wut

Man you just ruined my day, i could of swore GT was the cure for cancer!:ouch:

That page #739 is a lot to read. Especially after failing to get better than bronze on GT4's slalom license test with the BMW Z4 w/ controller. ARG!

Still on 54% on GT4, so I don't mind the wait.

True, Gameplay reigns supreme, and GT has that in spades. It just angers me to think of the possibility that the car detail we have been seeing since the beginning would not be the standard the game would be judged on, it would be judged on the lower quality models instead.

Forza 3 does look like a fun game (especially after all the youtube videos I have seen of it), and if I had a 360 I would have bought it already, and would be less impatient for GT5. I just do not want to buy a system just for one game, unless it is GT.

I, as well as other ps3 only owners (by choice, or monetary reasons) have put their racing game eggs in the proverbial GT5 basket, and if GT5 has such a big omission where would they go? If they can not stand the trees :dopey: then they will really flip out if the car models are poorly detailed.

To me all signs point to 900+ highly detailed cars (dash view for all, I could go for hours explaining the evidence that supports it :sly:). So until otherwise all this worrying from me or others is pointless. 👍

You must have faith in PD!! I'm sure that PD has something EXTREMELY BIG for us when they show us GT5 at E3...

Who knows..maybe they will show off something NEW...:D

Patience is a virtue.:D

EDIT: PD's standard and effort for making GT is extremely high, you must remember that.If it were'nt for Kaz and his team,we would'nt have GT1 11 years ago...

Am I the only one who's not really bothered by the graphics? I know it's nice and all but beauty is only skin deep.

I bet that "premium" has a lot to do with customization. I seem to remember kaz saying that the reason they are only doing (x) amount of premium cars is because he didn't want the game to take 10 years (laughs).

Or something like that.

So, I would say that "premium" refers to when they have modeled the internal parts of the car. And that is what he was trying to say when the mis-translation happened in that interview. So, seeing premium means that a car's engine, full exhaust, drive train, etc have all been modeled. Or at least thats my explanation. By the way, I bet more cars will be added to the premium list in the form of downloadable content over the next couple years. 👍 Oh, by the way (again), this may be a big part of what the premium GT5 was about, too. Remember seeing that large 3 disc box. Not to mention, Amar talking about the 2 different versions of the game. One of which allowed downloadable content for free while the lesser version required you to pay.

Rem20-Rest assured that all of the car models will all be of the same quality (externally), and that there is a cockpit view for every vehicle. (I know this is not confirmed, but I think most of you would agree)
