That's what I was thinking. Loading about 4-5 different meshes with different textures wouldn't be hard, ESPECIALLY if they added an LOD system... so far I haven't witnessed one in GT5P (or the demos in GT5) but I'm sure they can get it to work.

GT5 already has a LOD system. I cant remember where i saw it but it was a picture of a long straight at the nurburgring with 3 cars in it, the car furtherest away was clearly a Lower Detail level than the car closest to the camera!

Doesn't the system still need to calculate a bunch of other things that can't be "copy-pasted"? AI and physics for instance.

I have like 100+ gt5 pictures... all pictures that matched your description had cars in the distance, but no "noticeable" difference other than shadows; which disappear after a certain distance away.

Link please?

Yep, seems like no pertinent damage. =(
No odd translation there, don't know about carrera, but I can't think of any other meaning for conservarán, outside of "keep" or "retain".

Una Carrera is a race. The translation is basically that car damage isn't held over from one race to the next.

Well, yeah of course. Including damage on vehicles as well, but graphics processing with shaders takes a huge amount of processing. I can make an advanced 3D physics simulation with very low poly counts and get some hefty results, but start throwing in the polys and it takes a lot more power to process.

Still, there's the number of parts that appear on the screens earlier. Wouldn't make sense to buy 8 parts of the same thing if you only need 1 >_>

Out of curiosity, how is damage handled on other games?

sorry to be off topic,
but will there be rolls royce in the game?
is there a hint that it might be in the gamee?

I doubt it, a Rolls-Royce probably handles like an oil tanker. :scared:

there are tons of cars in GT that probably handle worst than a Rolls. I wouldn't mind seeing the new Phantoms, it'd be fun to mess around with.

From what I've read the current Rolls-Royce line up handles pretty well despite their bulk and enormous size and are also quite fast, the Phantom has a 0-60 time of 5,7 seconds despite weighing almost 3 tons which sounds impressive to me.
And even if they did handle somewhat like an oil tanker it can't be much worse than for example the Dodge Ram or Jay Leno Tank Car which were included in GT4 despite not exactly being the ultimate track machines.
With GT claiming to be a virtual car encyclopedia it can't be considered complete in my opinion without including one of the most famous and prestigious car brands of all time.
It might not be on everyone's wishlist and not be to everyone's taste but that can be said of a lot of cars and brands already included and it will only add to the variety as this type of car ( a big fast limo ) isn't really found yet in the GT-line up and I would love it.
Licensing might not be that difficult as Rolls-Royce is part of BMW and if any game offers the proper context to include Rolls-Royce it is GT.:)

The Rolls-Royce Ghost is a fine example of a heavy luxury car performing and handling better than a lot of dedicated sports cars!

Many will argue that body kit and parts tuning in GT5P is summed up by a weight reduction slider, performance slider and ride height alteration slider. Forza 3 is essentially doing the same thing with its own variety of parts & tuning - where a part could affect each of these factors simultaneously. Obviously we know GT5 will have parts & tuning, we'll have to wait and see if GT5 adds anything really new in this dept over GT4. I don't think it really has to (do much more), others may disagree.

Forza 3 has a damage "cost" which is always deducted from your race winnings at the end of each race and all that does really is slow your progression through finance. Forza is probably the best franchise to compare GT against simply because it's trying to be the same kind of track-day simulator - with manufacturer assistance, so damage deformation, scratches, etc - should be comparable. Manufacturers won't agree to their cars being heavily damaged such as it would show the car to be "unsafe" for the driver / passenger, nor will manufacturers agree to their cars being considered totaled (forced to retire).

Yes and even when it didn't outperform a lot of sportscars it would still be welcomed by me for adding more variety.
Most people who play GT5 probably won't be able to drive Ferrari's, Lamborghini's and Bugatti's in real life but they can experience them in the game even in a non-competitive way purely having fun driving these cars.
The same goes for Rolls-Royce, I don't expect to set a new Nürburgring lap record with it or race them succesfully against supercars but the only way I will probably ever going to drive them will be in a game.
And the new Ghost is also quite a beautiful car in my opinion, and like I said before it's one of the most famous car brands of all time just like the ones mentioned above, just a different category not featured yet in a GT-game.

Put me in the camp hoping for 32 cars on a Nascar race.

If they don´t have dynamic weather in (time changes and rain), then i guess it frees up a bit of memory, which is the huge problem for having more cars.

Still, i don´t think the PS3 has enough memory for it. Maybe 24 cars? Anything that would resemble a Nascar race would be good. (we don´t mind them cutting loose the start and park cars).

Which dedicated sports car pulls .85g on a skidpad?

I've heard rumours saying a mysterious previously unknown virus is expected to go airborne in November........

Now that is what I call very relevant GT related news. I suddenly don't believe in preventive medicine.

I just don't want to have to wait for the track dryers to dry the track after it rains in a Nascar race because not all tracks have lights and I really hope Kaz didn't put lights on the cars:yuck:

Don't expect 32 cars for GT5, it's too soon for that with the same graphical quality. If 32 would be possible, Sony or PD would have said that long ago because it's an superb selling point. GT5 takes about 80% of the PS3's power, so maybe we will see 32 cars on track in GT6 when the game uses the full power of the PS3?

The maximum length is 10 kilometers, we freshener according to preset themes, we could see Tuscany, but there will be about 8 in the final version.
So this means more variations of surface in track editor.

Dont worry, they are decals.

woops >_<

Jordan needs to add a delete post feature >_> sorry!

That's GT5 related how, exactly?

Does anybody think that 32 NASCAR cars racing together might be a possibility?
After all their 3D models are rather simple.

NASCAR cars are simpler outer design thus many polys only used for cockpit rendering, witch is LOD'ed by video-card.And you barely can see 5-6 cockpits at once.NASCAR cars are even simpler than GT5P "up to 200k poly" cars...So...
Yes.It really possible. And it makes perfect sense!Especially when you think that SPEEDWAYS are much simpler than, for example 8-car City courses.👍

2. As if it's not obvious anyway..? It's pretty safe to assume that the Stig will be in the game to race against. Whether it's ghost laps or AI - we don't yet know, but it'll be interesting to know whether the Stig sets laps in GT5 or whether they're migrated across from PD's Data Logger Visualization tool. We could see very different laps and lap times being set. If the new Stig happens to be a F1 driver... Well, F1 drivers have always taken several turns at the Top Gear circuit "wide" and this may affect the racing line for that track in GT5 as Ben Collins took a different line. If Ben Collins' data has already been collected & used, would it be scrapped & replaced? Would the TG track racing line be scrapped & replaced?

Yes, that is true. The new AI could be expensive, but that doesn't rule out 16+ player LAN (not that most people would have the opportunity).

All that instancing does is use the same mesh file, loaded in memory, and at runtime it displaces the existing vertices to a new location for raster-testing there (since it's done per-poly at this point). Damage is the same, it'll be based on vertex deformation, so it's a case of applying each car's unique deformation state at the appropriate point - no different to each model using a different pose, or animation (as is done in many games already.) Storing all this deformation info might be a problem, though, depending on how fast you need to access it.

The physics is an issue, potentially, depending on how the AI interacts with the car and circuit.

Online bandwidth is a massive issue for a racing game; I'm guessing even scalable (adaptive) net code would struggle with many more than 16 players over the PSN's distributed system.

...

I think graphics, performance, and grid size will improve with a proper LOD system being added.

GT5:P already has a "proper" LoD system; it's been present since GT2.

GENERAL GT5 DISCUSSION, not general shoot the **** discussion. There is a TOP GEAR thread, post it there.

Great news!the slipstream on GT5p was so unreal!!👍

True. However, would many of the events in GT5P be almost impossible if the slipstream wasn't there?
