HKS Lancer CT230R.

It’s back. Little introduction is needed for this legendary car, as it is without a doubt the fastest circuit racer in Japan. Previously known as the HKS TRB 02, or Tsukuba Record Breaker, this full-carbon bodied Lancer Evolution 8 is back with a vengeance. In February of 2004 this machine, then sporting a bare carbon paint-scheme, lapped the small Tsukuba Circuit deep in the Ibaraki-ken countryside in an unheard of 54.739 seconds. Just to put things into perspective, a stock Lancer Evolution 8 laps the 2.070 m circuit in 1 minute 05 seconds, and this is with pro-driver/living-legend Keiichi Tsuchiya behind the wheel, on a good day. The driver who clocked in at 54 seconds was none other than Nobuteru Taniguchi, official HKS driver and one of the most skilled wheelmen in Japan.

Having already secured the fastest ever tuned car record at Tsukuba, Nob as well as the HKS mechanics knew that the car could go faster. As such, he boldly set off ready to shoot for a time in the 53-second bracket, but then, to everybody’s surprise, it went horribly wrong. Coming into the infield hairpin in fifth gear Nob locked up the front brakes and ploughed straight into the barriers, effectively shattering the TRB 02 into pieces. The mechanics couldn’t believe what had happened. Looking at the various video footage it seemed like there was some kind of steering arm failure, but since the whole front section of the car was damaged pretty badly in the impact there was no way of finding out the real cause.

With Taniguchi thankfully unhurt it was back to the drawing board. It took HKS almost two years to bring the car back to its former glory, and oh man did they do a good job. Shown for the first time at the Tokyo Auto Salon earlier this year, the new vehicle now sports a catchy new paint-scheme and in typical Japanese fashion, a totally new name. Behold the CT230R.

Yes it could be, and maybe we will have this back from GT2:

HKS 180SX Drag Car, it made 1185ps @ 9000rpm... fast

👍

I am so excited with the new gameplay, that I can't help myself but to be a purist PITN:
Focus WRC 08 (Abu Dhabi BP WRC, '08)
Focus RS WRC 08 (BP Ford Abu Dhabi WRT, '08)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BP_Ford_Abu_Dhabi_World_Rally_Team
Impreza WRC (Subaru WRC, '98)
Impreza WRC98 (Subaru WRT, '98)
Not sure about this one, haven't spotted it yet in person - just assuming from the year given here.
Impreza WRC2008 (Subaru WRC, '08)
Again - should be WRT, as it's World Rally TEAM.

Just trying to keep it uber-accurate, just like the rest of the list ;).

This may have been discovered before. I have not seen it, however.

Looks like a race prepared Skyline or something, or what is it?

anyone notice that there are already 12 Skylines? Looks like we'll have to deal with 60 skylines this time instead of 50...but since that's out of 1000 cars....it doesn't seem as crazy.

Well, they did say most of the GT4 cars would be returning.

I realy hope there are gonna be 100+ skyline because there were hardly any sedan's or non GT-R's in GT4.

WRC denotes the series it is from, just as we have Le Mans or Super GT on other cars.

yeah, I saw that, too...luckily someone was able to catch a screen shot. That would add the RX-7 Spirit R Type A, Fairlady Z and I think the Amuse to the list as well as the Mitsubishi.

Hey The359, just found another car that should be removed from the list (I guess it was in Vision GT):

Ford
Model T ('15)

;)

About 120 cars confirmed so far. Do you guys really think there will be 1000 cars in the final product? I mean that's...

But it was up on the official GT site indeed, and it has been in developement for 5 years so...

I just can't wait!

All of these cars have been confirmed way before GamesCom even started. The only new announcement was Tesla, and even then the model wasn't specified. Even that Mitsubishi Evolution IV GSR was already in GTHD.

Nissan

370z

seen in the Subaru WRC video at Gamescom

It is actually under it's Japanese name at gamescom, Nissan Fairlady Z '08

Along with the R8 and Blitz ER34 ;)

Don't forget the Evo X which is not seen in that list but starts in 9th position, I still don't know what the 10th car is, no video I have seen captures it.

Yeah I just noticed it in a video and came to correct my post about the 10th car, but wont bother now :)

This question probably doesn't belong here, but it is really too small of a question to start a new thread about. With Nissan's new Z car being shown, do you think it will "auto-blip" the throttle on downshifts for us clutch users?

Probably not, it can be turned off on the real car so in GT5 it will probably just be off all the time.

No, It's WRC which refers to the Car and not the team entering it.

Please remember that Wikipedia entries can be written by anybody and aren't always right.

I've personally worked at M-Sport in the past (I live 2 miles away), so please trust me it's a Focus WRC...

also, my last post listing the HKS Lancer - I got sidetracked and posted that as it's seen in the video at around 10 secs in - the car I meant to identify was the Citroen C4 WRC '08...
