As long as there are in-race game saves and fast forward/rewind/frame by frame options in theatre mode, I'll be happy.
The thing is, there is plenty of content in GT5, just not what people want. It's well documented that there are too many 'copies' (Skylines, Maitas etc) in it. The Photomode locations are nice, but would more tracks have been better? Lots of cars that are premium are unlikely to be used more than once, so were a waste.
It's like buying a dictionary, only to find out most of it is in French and you can't read French. Plenty of content, but not what you wanted.

another_jakholeThe duplicates of cars on the other hand, that makes me want to cry. It's not right that they did that. Kaz even said looking back it, he thinks there are too many duplicates. But it's like: too little, too late . It's really easy to say that was his biggest mistake with GT5. Because that's space used up for no reason. He basically said it was for the extremely picky people out there.
His words were that they were for the people that actually felt there was something special about each variation. I call foul.
If GT6 has even half the duplicates, that's still not good enough. I really think that is the biggest let-down of this game.
This is where I found out about the reason for the so many variations. Why PD felt the need to create so many variations of what is essentially the same car I have no idea.. what also bewilders me is how all the variations are within Japanese car manufactures, leaving many European and American Manufacturers with significantly less cars in my opinion. Is that again to do with manufacturers input and possible rights of cars etc?
I don't mean to criticize anyone who may like the Skyline GT-R N1 R32 from 1991, but it's essentially the exact same car as Premium R32, all but the name and a couple more BHP's and torque's. Ridiculous.
Basically, it's to pay homage to "the automotive culture in Japan from the 1990’s". It's just not worth it.One frequent criticism of many GT games – including GT5 – is the large number of Japanese cars with slight variations in trim (the various GT-Rs, Mitsubishi Evos, Miatas, etc. all come to mind). This is one of the first interviews which Kazunori has acknowledged the criticism, saying “…it’s true that there is a lot of variations depending on the model, and that’s probably because we’ve been affected strongly by the automotive culture in Japan from the 1990’s. [...] Back then there was meaning to each of the fine differences, and the selection of which model variation to drive was important to a user. Looking at it now I also think that there’s too many.”
And yet, there still is plenty of unused space on the disk.Like you have said, all those cars which were essentially repeats of one another just occupied space on Blu-Ray unnecessarily.
It's common notion among beginners here that taking out those cars would have enabled PD to make more premium cars; however, it's not the case.I would have loved them to just take out all those duplicates and make some of the standard cars premium instead..
I don't mind the "duplicates" at all per se, just that they are a cheap trick for PD to state that there are "over 1000 cars" as you say. Same for tracks with the reverse or irrilevant variations that while I welcome very much, I wouldn't count as entirely new tracks. You can't minimize the fact that the +1000 cars isn't really the truth. Some of the duplicates are just embarrassing.

First, because by definition, if they are mostly duplicates, then very little additional work has been needed to add them compared to the "base" models. Modeling different wheels, specs or minor detail surely takes a lot less time than making a new car completely from scratch.
Second, because standard cars are models imported from GT4 or GTPSP anyway and would have impacted minimally the development of actual new content for GT5.
I meant in the context of, instead of spending time creating duplicates, they could have made a few more premiums. I understand the premiums took much more work, hence there are a lot less premiums than standards. They should have spent less time involving their previous work and made maximum use of:
a) the huge capacity of Blu-ray relative to DVD
b) the potential of the PS3 over the PS2
How long did it take PD to make the game again?
Or, as I have suggested in the Feedback section, more RM options. I loved the feature in GT and GT2, and it seems like we only got a tease with 5.
Easy trick and even MORE cars. Pity.
If we count unique car bodies, I think there are 450-500 in total, including Standard cars.
SHIRAKAWA Akira
I really hope there is an update where there are more premium cars.
In addition to the enduro race saves, we need the ability to do x3 B spec (I would have thought with the PS3's capabilities they could get this up to x5) also need to give us the ability to see all the regs for open lobby online races before we wait ages for the room to load, also need to remove the ability of room owners to kick out guests DURING a race. Its poor sportsmanship to kick out people from your room just because you're not winning.
thats not what the kick is for!!! What if your in a 40 lap race and a moron decided to go around backwards wrecking people. How dumb would it be oif there was no way to remove him from the room.
Sorry if by not reading this entire thread I missed this one elsewhere, but one thing I'd really like to see (apart from proper controls on the replays) is a list of split times when racing. Currently you only know how far away the car behind you is if you're winning. Likewise if you're 7th, you only know how far ahead the leader is. So I at least want to know the relative positions of the cars in front of and behind me. There's a driver list on the right hand side, why not put the times there?
I'd also like to know when my opponents pit.

Along with a proper tire wear indicator the current all the same color thing doesn't work. It needs t go back to the blue-green-yellow-orange-red way.
Make all hard and medium tyres worth using for performance reasons. They currently serve no purpose other than the challenge.

They don't. Have you not noticed that? Unless I'm missing something here and wasn't told about it. The tire wear for all the tires last the same amount of time. Well the tires in their respective level last the same amount of time. So racing tires all last the same. Sports tires all last the same. Comfort.Errr... they take longer to wear out.... which can be handy (read: essential) in races longer than 5 laps...
