👍Incorrect. Real-world race drivers, including professionals at the higher tiers of motorsports, do spend time in simulators. In fact, they spend a lot of time in simulators.
I work with someone who plays iracing. He says there is a 34 mile course. Thats where I'm going to say its disappointing that GT5 has the Nordscleife, which personally keeps me on my toes, and blows me away, but thats it. Everything else is round and round, over and over. I might be mistaken, but I think le sarthe is the second longest course, less then 4 minutes typically. Physics is somewhat of a subjective argument, content is not. It would be great to see some seriously huge races both real highways and some fake ones also. Not just small tracks which are far too limiting for the potentially epic tracks that we could be getting even on the PS3.
GT5 and iRacing are soo different. iRacing is a simulator, GT5 is a car collecting game with the ability to drive cars.
So in general the answer the the OP is no GT5 cant compete with iRacing for simulation. Also iRacing cant compete with GT5's pokemon collection.
Am I the only one that thinks the claim that real life racers play games like Iracing and GT5, is completely false? They have better things to do, like race real cars on real tracks, I personally think they get a nice pay check just to say they play "simulators"
would it?
You cannot create a new topic with a couple of words not explaning what you want to achieve with the topic. And worse, not getting back to your own thread and clarify. So lazy.
<--- NOT a professional. But, If I'm going to pay to race, it's going to be on a real race track... so iRacing is out. If I want to have some fun time on a decent game, GT5 it is.
In addition to the monthly fee, there also are relatively expensive one-time fees for individual additional tracks and cars (around 12 or 15 dollars each), of which respectively 9 and 6 are included in the base package. It is very expensive if you want all cars and tracks (or even half of them).Paying a few dollars a month to race online, is MUCH different than the huge investment that real-life racing takes.
BTW, you paid for GT5.....

So if they didn't have a monthly fee, who would pay for the game R & D? Who would pay for the staff? Who would pay for all of the Web Servers to host the racing?
For Sony it's much easier to charge a flat rate at the beginning, and use their massive size to support the product moving forward. A smaller company like Iracing, needs to charge that monthly fee in order to keep their business running and profitable.
Ya I agree, I wanted to try iracing this week too after finishing Shift 2 finaly and guess what, after a quick check of the fees I forgot about it. Everything seems to be costing a lot and on top of that you have to pay a monthly fee to even play it. It's like a mmorpg where every weapon/equipement should be bought with real life money. No thanks for me.Who pays for the GT5 servers and R + D for Gran Turismo? We do and it's a flat fee.
I joined iRacing this week and to be honest, it is better than GT5 physics-wise, but that's about it imo. I joined thinking I would have full access to the game...nope gotta pay for each additional car and track on top of the monthly fee. For the money, GT5 is the way to go so you avoid the slippery slope costs of iRacing.

That's cool SuperN. What car? What org?

... I race in the 24 Hours of Lemons series and Chump Car.
Perhaps that's because they're proper race cars which demand expertise and respect. I wonder how stock road legal cars would behave with its physics engine.Cars in iRacing are much more difficult to drive, too much throttle at the wrong time and you are into the wall.
