I actually tried a Gran Turismo when I was shopping for a sporty cabriolet, lovely car with the right trim/spec/YM but very heavy compared to the more sportscar feel I was after. Maintenance costs are scary, mechanics hate working on them.
I agree, although most coupes and cabs in that class are either to heavy or too big (SL500, California, 6 series or E class coupes)

So they very much are GT focused dynamics I found rather than sporting. But to be fair the M5 is now and the M3/4 probably a bit to focused for what most people want.

The mazer servicing costs are eye watering though, probably in reality not that far from the higher AMG stuff or an Aston but in a step change way that makes your eyes water!

I went with a 997 cab as I really wanted it sportier but needed 2+2. My mechanic had two Maserati's in his shop when servicing my car and he just shook his head. It's not the actual reliability, for the most part the Gen2 cars were reasonable, it's you can't get to anything! He said labour was roughly double to do anything vs my car.

Hit up Race B tonight, did not know the track but slowly whittled my way down to consistent 15.8s. Ran a race or two and seemed to have decent pace, then went QT hunting. Bit frustrating as I kept making errors, its a track where once you find your limit the next step is to really hang it out there amd see just how close you can get to Narnia. Managed a 14.5, which I suspect will see me punished and plopped in A/A+ rooms rather than with my fellow DRB drivers.

Racing here is tough, again youre on the ragged edge to be fast, a bit like Sardegna really, but that makes passing hard at BMB as theres no big stops like Sardegna (big tack).

Well what do you know, got my first race A win this morning and I’m really liking this car and track, got my QT down to 1.00.070 so anything in the 59s I’ll be happy with.

The problem here is navigating the first turn 🤣 managed to keep myself away from the BS moves people pull, I did get clipped and drop to 4th but the field didnt seem to be able to race so I took the lead back pretty quickly 😁

It was very early and mostly filled with C & D rated but I’ll take it, as the week goes I reckon a full field of people who actually want to race this one will be fun.

The couple of previous races I had this morning had a few punters in so to speak, but I did find a couple of clean chaps to race with.

Im in the minority but I like race A when theres no DR impact.
I would say there is some appetite for that, combo-dependent.

Personally, it very much depends on my mood. Occasionally there's a really enticing, technical and fair/clean race available, and i get totally bummed out that the only direction my DR could go is down.

I'm by no means a DR-chaser, but in these situations i sometimes find myself really high up on the grid with no future possibility of facing stronger opponents. It all could be an illusion, of course, given the mixed lobbies you generally find in Race A.

Oi I tell ya what! This B lobby malarkey is too easy! Get me into the A’s 😂😂😂

Na I’m joking, since I got into B for the first time a few days ago, I’ve been back down to C 😂 but got back into B last night and got my QT down to 1.15.014 (fuming I didn’t get in the 14’s). This was good enough for starting P5-P1 and have had some ups and downs with some chaotic first laps!!!

But last race had my first B pole and led start to finish with no one really challenging as built up a 2 second gap in the first few laps! Buzzing with my first B win! In my first 10 races as a B lobby driver!

I think I have the pace to compete at this level BUT and I think it’s a big but 🤷‍♂️ being only 6 weeks into playing racing games, my race IQ/craft absolutely sucks, (I genuinely think my 5 year old might make better decisions and and lose his temper less) as if I’m in the pack it’s a crap shoot where I’m going to finish P2 or P16 🤷‍♂️

But anyways, buzzing with a win 😬😬😬

Saw this guy had 500 wins and a B/D rating. I wonder why...

This stuff looks like that dangerous mix of “good” enough but no racing intelligence or emotional intelligence.

It’s Mario kart driving and honestly the system should reclassify these people better and not just rely on behavioural nudging and dr/sr pistol whipping.

Don’t rush it mate, you’ve adapted quickly let it stabilise and now start refining consistent repeatable base that will allow you control your racing rather than react and then it’s just a matter of unlocking more pace but you need that consistency spine to build and improve the racing and your pace from

2p/cents

What I don’t understand with people like this is he is obviously quick as he had a bunch of penalties but still caught back up so if he just raced cleanly he’d be up with you at the front 🤷‍♂️

No I’m not rushing it, I was only joking about A’s. I deffo need to get myself better at racing in the pack as I think that’s where I’m going to find myself the majority of the time. I just need to pick and choose when to try and pass and how to deal with people behind me. So basically how to race 😂

He was definitely fast - he had the fastest lap in this race too (which was annoying, as I had an unblemished streak of fastest laps 😐😂)

If there's someone fast behind me, I'll usually just let them by without losing time fighting. It usually works out better overall, as if you starting defending every corner, you'll get a queue behind and possibly get passed by another 3 or 4 cars if you get shoved offline. I'll only really defend if it's on the last lap/last corners.

Gr4 is particularly bad for this as it's so close anyway. If you lose momentum then you'll also lose a bunch of places.

Highlighting beyond doubt that driving quickly and driving well are two very separate things, and should be taught as two very separate things.

Safe to say, GT7 only focuses on one of those definitions.
I do think it’s a fundamental mechanical system problem, weaker economy no penalties for abusing the AI and then you race real humans who care emotionally and react differently.

The training wheels are just balance and that’s all the game provide it doesn’t offer road safety or enforce it.

How is an SR D allowed to play against normal people?

You're absolutely correct. There should be a necessity to go rehabilitate your SR offline if it drops low enough. There's no good reason why many of the higher credit races avoid payout reductions for contact.

I put the penalties on in custom races so I can train to avoid accidental contact. It helps.

My two cents for the ones who want to try the no pit stop strategy at Daytona this week with the Peugeot VGT (only possible car for this strat).

Brake Bias =0 kills the front left.
Brake Bias =5 kills the rear right.

BB = 3 is the most balanced value for my driving style at least.

If you are not good enough saving tyres put TC1 from the start no matter what position you start.
If you are good enough saving tyres you will only need to put TC1 when you find yourself in a middle of a bump-draft train to reduce the wear produced by the slipstream.

Fuel map = 2 helps A LOT to reduce tyre wear. So if you work with your peeps around bump-drafting, put it on 2 if you are not the frontman of the train.

If you arrive to the last lap with a totally red tyre put TC 2 or 3.

Take in cosideration that pit stop last 16 secs. If you lose more than that staying out with dead tyres this strat is not for you.

Going to have to eat my words here, that Citroen is a damn fine car around BMB, it never clicked with me before but it’s really smooth around this track and can bite you too if you are not concentrating, had some really good races this morning, trading places around those bends, @Tidgney guide helped me take another half second of my time, so need to focus on pushing into the 14s now.

Enjoying both Sardegna and BMB this week, having to alternate them each day 😁

And guess what! Actual rig delivery day today!!! Whooo, will send pics.

Have a good day guys 👊

Oioi!!!!!!!!! lets goooooooooooooooooooooo!!! Did you get a chance to set it up? it's about 5.30AM in the UK isn't it? you're a better man than me if you managed to put a rig together at that time in the morning! Look forward to seeing the pics!!!!

Yeah I've managed to park my ego on this and have come to terms that dropping from P2 to P4 is better than fighting, spinning and finishing P10. My biggest issue is I'm not good enough yet to get the passes down when I'm quicker than people and find myself stuck behind someone and either super close going into the corners and I make a mistake or I get artificially caught from behind and then I'm sandwiched and have no idea how to stay safe! Sure I'll make some headway in this respect now that I'm starting a bit further back on the grid

No no no, it’s arriving today, got the email this morning so I need to figure out getting out from work and possibly working from home again 😁

Pff race C is hectic for a mere DR B mortal like myself. Feels like a bowling alley in many of the races. Because the cars are so quick, and there's quite some speed differences between the cars, I understand that people sometimes misjudge a little. But everytime I get a bump from behind in the braking zone, people just drive on. So many push-to-passes. Did 4 races, my best finishing position was a P11 (in one of those races I was the polesitter, but got taken out at T1). Did one more race that finally went better. Finished P5, just ahead of 2 dirty drivers who pushed me off multiple times, and tried to drive me into the wall whenever I tried to make a pass pfff.

I am still learning this after 2 years of playing GT7. I try to be patient and line up a good move. Many of my overtakes are due to obvious mistakes from the driver in front. Only some are good moves like you would see in a real life competition. Many times the people behind you are less patient and just barge by while you were acting the gentleman. You can't control that, but you can work on your consistency and thinking about the long game.

Hoping that non update means your too elbow deep in tubes and screws and can't message!!!!

This makes me feel better as I was trying to really force the issue and felt I was a bad driver if I could only overtake after a mistake

I hardly ever overtake anybody 🙈
Most places are made up by profiting from mistakes, with the occasional one down to actual pace.

Sometimes a car ahead may have had a perfect qualifier, but struggle with consistent race pace or tyres. I get some races where I end up on pole and I think "oh crap", as I know it was a lucky lap and I'll soon be holding up a queue of faster cars 😂

No man, it is genuinely difficult to make a nice, clean pass. As Barney said: many times an overtake just comes from people spinning out or ruining their corner exit for whatever reason. Keep it up, it seems to me you're doing great so far. 👊

Nah only just arriving, I can see the van coming close then shooting off somewhere else 😁 can’t get no time off so I’ll be building tonight!

It took me a couple of hours, then another hour readjusting things once I'd driven a few laps.

I'd swung the plate for the wheel-base upside down to make access easier for attaching it - then when I swung it back up around, I'd fitted the damn base backwards 😂

Thanks guys - these have readjusted my expectations - I'm watching too many streamers pull off these audacious moves on youtube and it's warping my view!

Last week I did Spain quite late on so started at the back, got into the top ten by letting everyone else crash.

Yeah nothing else i tried feels anywhere near as good because it rotates so well. It's a good race, especially 9 laps rather than say 7, but some guys make really poor decisions. Trying to pass through the kink before the last turn is madness but people try it and yeah..... tears, always tears.

Matching has been unusual, lot's of rooms with A+/A/B all in one room, I suspect because my QT is fairly solid at 14.5 so I'm being shoved up a little.

Finally got a lap together and broke into the 1.14’s.

Everyone seems way quicker than yesterday as this is only got for P7 and yesterday was top 3 quali with the 1.15.014. People must have been watching tidgneys guide 😂😂

Tried the advice of being patient and waiting for mistakes in front and ended up getting rear ended by some one that caught me whilst I was waiting on the group in front 😂😂😂
