There is a couple of things there:

It’s not for everyone but I’d definitely give VR a try if you can, AC is very good with it if not punishing!

Sounds pretty awesome, I had the quest VR a few years ago and it was incredible how immersive it was! Think I will definately have to give it a go! Will let the wife simmer down from the shock of the rig arriving the day after Boxing Day first 😂😂

Yeah cheers mate, it’s solid as a rock so sorted from that front, steering wheel pointing a little downwards, so need to sort that, probably put something on the wrong way round 🤣

But getting into some racing now and feels good I have to say 👊

Lovely! Glad you’re enjoying it! It’s been a long journey 😂😂😂 odds are something isn’t set up right, I had my wheel plate round the wrong way and didn’t have the accelerator and brake attached after 4 hours of setting mine up! Went ballistic 😂😂😂😂

Finally done hallelujah 🙌

Never again
Why is there a bolt missing on the right?
Only kidding 🕺 enjoy 🥳🥳

There is a couple of things there:

If you’ve ever tried VR you’ll appreciate it better just spatially the lap time is just a lap time and can be done in any view.

To answer the question:

You only have cockpit view but it’s not the same as you see in the game on a TV.

I will try to explain, in VR it’s like the real world, you have this fake but believable sense of volume space, for example I can look down at my feet or admire the passenger/rear seats, they don’t exist but the freedom to look lets me see them.

In racing or lapping, you can’t see in 2d what I see and feel in VR which is depth, I can see the end of my bonnet consistently, I know instinctively how wide the car is just by “being in it”

It’s not for everyone but I’d definitely give VR a try if you can, AC is very good with it if not punishing!
I couldn’t race in 2d now I’m a VR man all the way. 👌🏻

@newmedia_dev

If it’s any consolation

Utter farce.

That’s consolation it’s annoying as. It’s bad enough you got 3 seconds but why did I get 5 for something less dramatic.

It’s piss boiling!

On the plus side how is the rig? They take a while to dial in to (for me) so how’s it going?

Yeah it feels solid and I just sorted the steering wheel position so realdy for a weekends racing, won’t lie it was hard work putting together 🤣

@NevilleNobody it came with little cable thingys so the cable management is actually done! 😂

Good to see @brockie lookong fast!

2 races of knob heads was enough for me this morning!

This lad that went out of his way and took out the car in front and then me was a particular highlight 😂

Apologies looks like I filmed this on a potatoe 😂😂😂

Yep nice to see you in race today mate, finally a more respectable QT so in and amongst you guys now, well some of you 😁 not the real fast ones 😂 was so close to a win earlier, lost a 1.2secs lead on then almost pulled back from 1sec behind so anything can happen at BMB, and of course the participants is an extra dimension, sure I’ll see you more as it looks like we are in BS and fairly relative time wise 👍

Do you think the QT is down to the rig as it improved straight away?

Yeah hopefully see you for some more racing and try and catch you!!!!

You’re up and early on it!!! I’m 4 hours ahead and I thought I was going on early 😂

Yeah I’m defo an early bird mate, kids sleeping is a good time to catch a few races 😁

Honestly, the rig is nothing to do with it, In my friends list I’m about where I usually am but I did put the the number 1 time ghost at 0.2 sec away to see what he was doing and it got me a little further up.

I kinda want interlagos here already, might have some more race A later on

I visited Blue Moon for the 1st time yesterday evening. It's a tiny lovely track to drive around btw. I'm still cautious/weak at turn 1 (leaving 2-3 tenths just there) whilst the ghost I'm following simply hit the wall without getting penalised. I've eventually found the wheel's settings that suit my preferences, so now it's only a matter to get turn 1 unblocked. The '13.4 is (should be) in sight. Enjoy your weekend, guys.

Questions for you daily racers.. I'm yet to start with online racing, but wanted to ask how good are the lower level races? I expect there to be a lot of casual racers? How does the ghosting feature work and how best is it to approach them?

how good are the lower level races?
When you are starting out you should absolutely be focused on increasing your SR (sportsmanship rating) first. Staying away from trouble, prioritising staying on the circuit will inevitably see you gain in both SR, and DR as a direct consequence. You will be gaining positions like crazy early on.

Do everyone else a favour and make sure you get enough practice yourself before you hit the racetrack.

This is true at all levels. Because your rating doesn't go down by not playing, there are drivers out there who only get on at weekends etc (much like IRL). They will be the most desperate and you have to learn to watch out for them as best you can. Certain people will try and overtake at every corner and usually it's best to let them, especially early on in a race. Learning to anticipate behavior is key, but that will only come with practice.

Ghosting will happen more liberally at lower DRs. It's best to try and ignore it for the most part and genuinely race. The ghosting system will prevent a lot of accidental contact, until you start progressing. Once you get to DR B, for example, you'll mostly only see it after an incident, and you need to be especially wary of cars "becoming solid" at any time. Steer well clear of ghosts (much like IRL).

This is all very good advice 👍👍
Avoiding trouble and revenge punts and get the SR up to S as quickly as possible.

Lots of clean racing to be had in D,C,B lobbies as long as the SR is good.

Wow, thanks for this. Some really good advice which I will be sure to take on.

I’ve been practicing but mainly on the online TT’s, not the quickest but trying to improve, it’s just trying to find time to stay consistent.

Anyhow, I’d like to try online racing so will report back once up and running. Thanks

What helped me was doing the circuit experiences, you start to repeat car control and dial up pace.

Do not ever be afraid to race in sports mode, it’s the best version of the racing in the game.

A couple of guiding point but @benjoi84 nailed.

Being in control is a better place than trying to be fast and then in control.

The radar is truer than the mirror so glance when you can.

You aren’t their to win you are there to race and place, and wins don’t actually matter other than a single number so focus on clean consistent laps, first place, 5th, last place

I spent my races tonight at the back and that’s ok, other days you will place better.

What I will stress as much as I can, is practice car control, and practice it more and more and you can layer pace on that and then you can layer race craft but without great control and awareness it’s a hard learning slog in multi dimensions

Hey, just dive in there, online race lobbies can always some new recruits who wants to race well,

What I find useful is to stick with one race alll week, not keep jumping between them, then by the weekend you know the track and can focus on your racecraft. Wins will come but don’t push for them, aim for top fives where you DR&SR are always blue and slowly increasing.

Watch YouTube and in particular @Tidgney guides, note down the brake markers, gear you should be in, etc once you hit those the times should come.

I do mainly race B, interlagos is a good place to start next week & try to use the meta car, in the global leaderboards.

And most importantly, have fun and enjoy! Keep us updated to your progress 👍

Edit. Also use the global top 10 times as a ghost and chase them about 0.3 secs away, this always helps get a little more time, as I managed this morning in that’s pesky grass hating Citroen 😁

Welcome man, when I get my ps5 back, I'll add you on my friends list. Here's a tip if you struggle to keep up with the aliens/or your friends. Try loading a ghost or watch a replay that is slightly better than your time. If you beat that time, then load a quicker ghost or replay after that process. This is key for improving lap times in general. That's what I had to learn back from 2022-2024.

I think the races this week have been tough to master, very dependent on other people’s performances, race A is great little race but just carnage at the first corner from the start and the amount of folk trying to pass at that downhill section 😂

Race B I just can’t string a race together, that Citroen does not like touching the grass, so if you can take turns 4, 5 & 6 without drama I’ve found extremely hard, then there’s T1 and going through it cleanly with a group whilst the catching pack flies in 😁 oh forgot the mention the last turn, that’s a bugger too 🤣

Roll on Monday already

Hey - I was in your position mid of Dec and was brand new to the game.

Some great advice from the guys.

I would say just focus on having fun at the start and work on racing clean and getting your SR rating to S as quickly as possible as you will have better races and less Wally’s deliberately crashing into you. Plus your DR increases more with a higher SR is my understanding.

The ghosting in D and C is on pretty much every crash and saves you lots, B and above you have to start dodging as they don’t always ghost so it’s good practice to dodge even when ghosted.

Learn the course in the quali so you know what’s coming up rather than trying to learn it in the races as it’s really difficult to race and learn when to break and what corners etc…

Post on here as well, the community has been great and really helpful with a great bunch of guys and gals!

Enjoy and I’ll see you in the lobby’s soon!

Add me stringerb2605

That’s first corner and the the U shaped turn after are absolute chaos at the start, I’ve started just trying to go wide on the U turn to avoid the inevitable dive bombs! Been a fun week of racing though but looking forward to next week and spreading my time between interlagos and Suzuka as haven’t raced either before

Race A came alive for me today, up to lofty heights of 400 in the world, and my lucky charm was there in the race @bone_tone , helped me along, lost the lead at some point but managed to get it back

Still struggling in race B
LOL! Great QT by the way!

I've been racing A all week, had a couple of wins and quite a few 2nds and 3rds. Got my DR back up to B yesterday, but then spent my time slowly sinking back towards C..

Today though was better - I had that 4th in the race with you, albeit with you three as little specks in the distance, and then a 3rd in the next race.

The funny thing was I've spent all week trying to improve my QT from 1.00.5xx, and finally managed a 1.00.422 yesterday (big improvement 😂). However, in the race where I finished 3rd (my last race of the week), I got the fastest lap in the race at 1.00.090 🤨. That was without the benefit of any tow too, as the lead pair were 2 seconds ahead of me.

I love the way you have to steer that car on the throttle, makes for some fun racing!

That’s exactly why I liked that daily A in the Delta lines and momentum mattered a lot but it was flexible and fun.

@brockie I’ve found B a bit of an acquired taste to be honest, put all 3 of my accounts in the top 400 and raced only my alt or US one.

I think the margins are soooooooo thin on this one and the slipstream to strong that making a meaningful gap isn’t possible so it’s hard work being aware behind and trying to get down the road.

Apart from one utter twitch streamer that gave out some street justice for his friend and thought I was me it’s been ok, just mixed and tricky racing. At the sharp end it’s mostly fine in the mid pack it’s nightmare on elm street and at the back it’s freebies or lonely.

Do you qualify against the top times? I really find that extra few tenths that way and if you get a time in race, you will beat it in qualifying 😁

It’s been a mixed week, too many offs and spins, but time wise, that Corolla at trial mountain only beats it

And…. I am faster than @newmedia_dev 😁😁

Not going back to A this week, and looking at your time I’m gonna happily concede this early. Great time mate, like really good time.

I’m gonna get murdered next week at Interlagos but might stand a chance at Suzuka other wise I’m out!

I’m not sure whether to run in the Ferrari or the Porsche at interlagos, the Porsche was so damn good at Catalunya, I need to make a choice by lunchtime tomorrow, so the most 296 or 911 in the top 100 at 1215 I’m going with and sticking with! 😁

The new Porsche will be coming next week too 😎

I should probably say 'updated Porsche' as I'm not sure if calling a 911 'new' is the correct term 🤔
