Decided to take the race A on my lunch break, didn’t quite time it right and arrived at home at 1418 so no time to quali, started p11 and finished p5,

Was a decent race and sure when I have a QT it’ll be a nice little battle in the pack, will get a livery on it and see if I can improve on a 1.29.1xx

Managed a couple of laps of B too as I saw the Elantra was the meta and I’ve not raced that at all,

@Gurzu thanks man

Thought of improving my TT for Race C. It was a modest 1:39:4xx in the AMG. I took the Genesis & ran a few laps but could only be 3 tenths slower than my PB.

I took the AMG again & managed to lower my PB to 1:39:150 which kind of shocked me. The AMG in no way is better than the Genesis but it's understeery front maybe suits my driving style better than the nimble Genesis. No doubt, Genesis is the only option for the race as it stands head and shoulders above the rest.

@brockie good to have you back mate. Been trying race A a couple of times, think it's a nice race all in all.

Just wondering why they put BoP on in Race A? Stock setup "tuning prohibited" would have been more enjoyable? I guess Bop setup is different to stock setup..

Cheers bud, yeah it’ll grow hopefully as the week goes

I’m trying out these auto settings on the fanatec wheel, rather than my use on the lower SEN wheel rotation settings, it’s fun turning the wheel 3 quarters on every turn 😁

I’ve always preferred the AS settings myself I’d tried loads of different ones but they never felt right for me. Plus in VR having the cockpit hands roughly align with my inputs visually and the car turning feel more natural for me.

What I do have to do for Karts is dial the FFB strength in game up to 10

Haven't tried it myself yet but maybe you can fit bigger rims, wider tyres/spoilers to the RCZ which would cause the BoP to kick in?

I never understand why they do that. It would make sense if there was a custom setup (would be very cool, like those cars in the pre-tuned selection races).

Especially now that Tidgney has busted car equivalency apart with his video about the influence of rim sizes and aero parts.

Just tried the M4 in the Elantra one-make we have for Race B this week... how can PD think it's acceptable to have a disparity this large in their BOP? I seriously wonder if they change the BOP based on vibes without any actual testing

Took me a few laps to adapt to the poor brakes and power understeer on the RCZ.

I'll be TT'ing if not actually racing.

You have loads of time left on that lap btw, particularly the first half. Was chasing your ghost this morning.

Such a fun track, I haven't come across many players that don't like it.
Yeah after work I did a few more laps, I have more time left in it as well as my esses were clumsy and I didn’t take enough speed on to the back straight

I did a practice lobby last night and tried all the Gr4 cars I had, nothing came close to the Elantra, the M4 was terrible. Its a bit sad really.
I did get my QT down to a 2.14.7 on my Oz account, maybe another 3 tenths left and that's it. 8 wins today between 2 accounts 👌👌

I started on pole most of the races, thats the key for this race I think 👍

I take my words back. That Gr3 roadcar is NOT a good reprecentative of Gr3 on SM. Hideous understeer in that peugeot..

Sadly, I'm not that good at Dragon Trail. It's very easy to mess up in the chicanes near the end. It's been months since there was a race for Race C that I was actually happy with.

Why do you think that?

It has power understeer* (being nearly 500hp*, light and mid engined?)

But it’s nice to drive, the middle pace between Hyundai cup Gr4 and Gr3 racing.

You just really need to brake a bit earlier and be more patient or controlled on the power, not a massive ask to do for the tires really.

Edits: * under not over and typo

I like how gr3 on SM shifts between oversteer and understeer. This road car is pure understeer. Drive few laps in the RCZ and then take the stock Gr3 458 to the same track on SM, and it feels like you change to a different game..

Because one is gr3 racing car geometry and chassis settings the other is a fast road car with largely road car settings???

You can’t compare them directly as they aren’t the same class of car

I know - I was just hoping this daily A would "force" people to test Gr3 on SM. But as I said - its not a good comparison. I still urge people to test racing cars on sport tires with the "new" physics. Especially the MR cars are a blast.

I have a feeling PDI is forcing these insanely steady and understeery combos just to make playing field more even to average Joes on gamepads. GT7 propably has a lot more sim potential in it, but they want to keep it appealing to a much wider simcade demographic. Totally understandable, but just not optimal for me personally. 😁

Maybe they could make a separate "PRO tire" closer to sim and have its own "daily PRO race" and "PRO time trial". 🤔

The latest update has definitely switched from oversteer to recovered understeer.

But I will say again, those are caused by inputs.

I appreciate the point you are trying to make, but understeer only happens if you ask too much of the front, so straighten more before power, feed it better more cognizant of the exit profile.

Oversteer, stop getting on the power at the wrong steering angle or too high in the power band. This is driving 101 learn how to make the car not neutral, then work on keeping it neutral as much as you can, once that’s consistent start pushing either envelope.

The point I’m trying to make is cars don’t understeer or oversteer, people ask to much of them.

And that’s a control issue not a car issue. And comparing a fake reverse Gr3 car that’s “road car, pd take some creative license their 🤣” to a GT3 current car is not the same, chassis, aero, gearing, diff settings it’s the wrong test.

I know very well how to handle understeer - have you ever tried finnish winter? 🤣 What im saying there is ONLY understeer available in these cars at the moment. Neutral is supposed to be BETWEEN oversteer and understeer - not just everything below understeer. I rather have unstable car that I can handle, than just avoid understeer. Understeer is easy but boring to handle.

Btw you forgot about coasting in your advice to battle understeer. Its surpricing how much more you can demand from the tire if you are not loading it with accelerating or braking.

You lost me here - I just literally said its a bad comparison..

I tend to experience oversteer more frequently than understeer in general.

You’re arguing preference as if it disproves adaptation.

Yes, the current balance may be more understeer-biased than you like. Fine. But “there is only understeer available” is still an overstatement when people are demonstrably rotating the same cars and extracting pace from them.

Coasting doesn’t rescue your argument either. Of course coasting matters; it’s one of the ways you manage combined load and give the front tyre more capacity. That’s exactly my point: the behaviour is being shaped by inputs.

And on the GT3 comparison, I didn’t “forget” that you called it a bad comparison. I’m saying it remains a bad comparison, because the cars are fundamentally different in chassis, aero, gearing and diff behaviour. Repeating the caveat doesn’t make the comparison useful.

I’m not saying the physics are perfect. I’m saying “the car understeers, therefore that explains my pace” is a weak conclusion in a fixed-car event where everyone has the same problem to solve.

At some point this stops being a physics discussion and becomes an execution discussion.

That’s where I am, and I’m leaving it there.

I dont recall saying there is anything wrong with my pace 😉 - I just dont like how I have to drive to get there. I would like to have more dynamic approach. Even though the fastest way might be finding the optimal speed, I'd rather dance between a bit too fast and a bit too slow. At the moment the physics are holding my hand and saying "lets just go easy..".

There is nothing wrong with your pace, I don’t think it marries to the observation and certainty the car understands. That’s a technique problem not a car problem.

Exploiting the limits is fine, I did 15 laps and 2 races today from a very strong starting point I think it was 38th or 42nd globally so my view of handling and pace probably differs from yours.

Pace is a product of car and inputs, you claiming one thing and then being frustrated when clearly pace is their in the car is a bit annoying and not true in how you drive it, not what the times are paying.

I've played around with ABS Def and ABS Weak, couldn't tell any difference tbh. Maybe pre update when cars on race tyres had less grip it made more difference? You can see under heavy braking just how little the ABS is actually engaging now (red bar) so I guess it would make more difference on sport and comforts.

Must be something wrong in my english. I couldn't quite follow this even if I tried to put myself in the shoes of someone who actually would be annoyed or not happy with the pace. 🤔 It seems if I say "It's not an apple", you answer "there is nothing wrong that its an apple".. and I recall we have had similar conversation before.

You'll certainly notice the difference in road cars. Before the physics changed, I would always be on ABS Weak but now I flutter between Weak and Default.

It may be due to lack of practice, but I'm finding today's Race A using the RCZ Gr3 Road Car very difficult with Weak.

I also have used abs weak now for few days. Even though I dont feel much difference, it seems Im just a bit more consistent with weak abs. Guess it just fits my driving style more naturally or something. Back in the day I used weak abs a lot more, but last years or so I guess abs def was alway slightly faster, not sure its anymore. I saw some video that brake balance would actually have different scale on weak vs default, but I havent even checked it myself yet ingame.
