Seeing how this is the 'General' thread, thought I'd ask a question here rather than start a new thread. Hoping someone can shed some light on what's going on with a 'glitch' or something I've encountered. (brand new to the game, literally 1st day of play)
Got the game, installed game data (Slim PS3), started playing and eventually got to the mission titled "Chop" with Franklin, when I started noticing things like sound dropping out, in-game objects/lighting getting laggy, and just general degraded animation. "Weird" is what I thought of it at first, figured maybe it was having an issue loading new data or something, then I got to a loading screen in-between checkpoints, and after about 2 minutes realized it wasn't doing anything more than spin the 'loading icon' in the bottom right. "Great, it froze" I figured, hit the power and restarted the system.
Round 2, started the mission, got a little further in the mission (Chop takes the gangster down), then as it's playing the cutscene of loading the gangster into the van, the game actually freeze-freezes, animation and sound completely stop, can't access XMB, nothing. Restart and try again.
Round 2.5, another mission attempt, I get to the end where you drop Lamar off at the rec-center. I pull the van into the marked parking space, and ... nothing, nothing happens, I don't lose audio but nothing 'advances' the story, I can move camera, change radio stations, arm Frank and disarm Frank, and use XMB, but the game stays stuck and doesn't let me do anything else. Hitting start for the pause menu doesn't work, it just goes into a perpetual loading-circle state and never loads it for me to do anything. Restart again.
Round 3, before I even get to Franklin's house, I noticed sound dropping-out to a very noticeable point. I start playing around with it, if I leave Frank's neighborhood the game plays absolutely fine, no issues, nothing. If I go and hang around Frank's neighborhood for a bit, after awhile sound starts dropping again and the game gets a little jumpy/laggy. Leave the neighborhood and do a Michael mission, everything plays and works FLAWLESSLY, save the game in a new slot, get ready to switch back to Frank and re-attempt the mission, then I pause game and bust out smartphone for some google-searching.

User's 2nd concern is somewhat similar to mine, however things go the game eventually hits a snag and doesn't execute loading something, just ends up hanging or freezing on the user. So I tried the simple solution attempt of turning Internet off and starting new save file. Same issues once I get to the "Chop" mission, perpetual loading/freezing.
Lost enough time to this issue tonight, so I just simply cut all my losses (deleted game data and all saves completely) and plan to try again from scratch tomorrow following Rockstars 12-step 'solution' at the bottom.
Long story short, has anyone else experienced this with the "Chop" mission on PS3 ?, does my 'gameplan' sound like a safe bet or will I have to consider getting my copy switched at Gamestop (disk is clean/damage-free, and it was their last one). I'd like to really enjoy this game, and was up to this issue.
I've had similar problems on other games. It could be the disc or something.
. Still, lost hours to re-tries though.
