As of July 6th, 2017, (unless the # of nominations does not go up), all you need to do is just state what you want to be polled. You do not need to give information, a year, or even a picture; I will find all of that information.

Preface:

A very special thank you for @Roger the Horse, who was creative enough to develop the Alternative Cool Wall and design the rules and regulations for it.

Also thanks to @Wiegert, @GranTurismo916, @TheBook, @Tornado, @Joey D @boiltheocean, @BKGlover, @White & Nerdy, and @Jahgee for curating the original GTP Cool Wall which inspired this one. Thanks you to @Joey D again for establishing the clear rules and standards currently in place over there, as they again inspired those used here.

As an active GTP member, it has always been my dream to have the position as curator for a poll series. Due to the fact that the GTP Cool Wall is not in need for a new curator, I have decided to revive the GTP Alternative Cool Wall and proudly curate it. Most of the rules/regulations will be the same as the previous Alternative CW.

Information:

For those members who are unfamiliar with the Alternative CW, it is basically the GTP Cool Wall, but instead, objects other than automobiles are nominated for polling. Voters are allowed to choose from five levels of coolness, which are Sub Zero (highest rating) , Cool, Meh, Uncool, and Seriously Uncool (lowest rating). Just like the GTP CW, there will be a results thread that displays how cool a given object is based on the opinions of the GTP community.

How it Works:
  • You nominate an item and it goes into the queue, assuming you followed the rules.
  • A poll will be created every day or every other day (depending on traffic) unless the curator is unavailable to do so; in which case advanced warning should be given.
  • The poll will be left open for ten days allowing member to vote on the five levels of coolness.
  • Polled items will be placed in one of seven sections, which are Lord Kelvin's Ice Box (highest category), Sub Zero, Cool, Vanilla, Uncool, Seriously Uncool, and Hell (lowest category).
  • Placement on the wall will be determined by a voting formula.

RULES:

  • Only one nomination per person until your nomination has been polled. Once the nomination is given a polling thread, then you are free to make another suggestion.
  • Although there is no required format for your nominations, unlike the regular cool wall, you must include a substantial information which you want to be displayed in the poll in your nomination as well as the picture you'd liked used in the poll. Information such as the invention date, country of origin, what the object is composed of, how much it costs, where and how it is used, etc, is suggested. Those who fail to do this will have their nominations skipped.
  • Year of invention/creation of the object being nomination must be included.
  • Nominations that are for objects that were already polled in the previous Alt. CW are prohibited.
  • Cars and vans are not allowed to be nominated.
  • Motorcycles, bicycles, scooters, airplanes, trains, military vehicles, construction vehicles, freight trucks, spacecrafts, and any other vehicle that isn't a car or van is allowed for nomination.
  • Musical artists and works of music are prohibited from being nominated.
  • However, musical instruments are allowed for nomination.
  • People, animals, plants, time periods, and land forms are not allowed for nomination. Only man-made objects and places are permitted.
  • Food is allowed for nomination.
  • Objects that are offensive, obscene, or inappropriate are banned from nominations. These include drugs, alcohol, firearms, explosives, weapons, sex toys/devices, pornographic films, Hitler/terrorist paraphernalia, religious objects, or anything that would break the AUP.
  • Nominations which are not considered to be notable enough to be polled will not be polled. Notability is up to curator and/or staff discretion.
  • Some nominations may be excluded or postponed for other reasons at nominator and/or staff discretion.
  • Only nominations made in this thread will be added to the list, please do not write on the curator’s GTP profile, PM him or e-mail suggestions. Nominations in the results thread will also be skipped.
  • Please try and get your nomination right the first time. If it is wrong or skipped, I will quote your post to point out the nomination's flaws and/or explain to you why it can't be nominated.
  • If your nomination is done correctly, it will be added to the Nomination Queue, and the post will be liked by me.
  • Nominations will be polled in chronological order of nomination, so it's first come first served.
  • Nominations, rules suggestions, and other directly connected discussion only here. Debates are for the polls only. Off-topic banter is not allowed in this thread.
  • Please try and be original.
  • You may change your nomination whenever you want. However, any changed nominations will be pushed to the bottom of the queue.
  • If for some reason I forgot to include your nomination in the queue, please let me know ASAP.
  • The Cool Wall curator reserves the right to find a different image than the one the car was nominated with.
Nomination Queue:
Current # of nominations: 12

Currently Up For Polling:

Other Info/Notes:

You are free nominate objects to be polled as soon as this thread is published, but no nominations will be polled until 6/14/17, ten days from now. If over 11 nominations are on the queue, one nomination will be posted a day until the number drops below 12. If there are 3-11 nominations on the queue, one nomination will be polled every two days, until the number increases to above 11. If there are 2 nominations on the queue or less, the Alternative CW will be halted until more enter the queue. Once the first nomination is up for polling, a results thread will be created.

If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or have suggestions, please feel free to notify me in this thread only. Questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions that are PM'd, emailed to me, on my profile, or in any other location will be ignored.

Poll Results:

The Placement Formula: Sub Zero is worth 2, Cool is worth 1, Uncool is -1, and Seriously Uncool is -2. Meh votes carry no swing weight, but they are included in the total votes. So you add it all together, then divide by the total votes, and that results in a number between 2 and -2. Now, The Cool Wall also changed under new management, and now has 7 sections, as seen below. These sections correlate to that resulting number. They are, in order: 2.00 to 1.56 (Ice Box), 1.55 to 1.00 (Sub Zero), 0.99 to 0.11 (Cool), 0.10 to -0.10 (Vanilla), -0.11 to -0.99 (Uncool), -1.00 to -1.55 (Seriously Uncool), -1.56 to -2.00 (Hell).

I nominate paper money.

From Wiki:
"Paper bills were first used by the Chinese, who started carrying folding money during the Tang Dynasty (A.D. 618-907) — mostly in the form of privately issued bills of credit or exchange notes — and used it for more than 500 years before the practice began to catch on in Europe in the 17th century."

It's something known to all of us. Is it cool? Let's find out.

For future reference, please include a picture. Since everything else in your nomination is fine, it will still be uploaded to the queue, and I will find a picture myself.

1940-present McDonalds

What it is: Fast food restaurant chain that is known for serving food and drink at a cheap price. One of the first fast food chains ever, and is the most popular one today.
Country of origin: USA (San bernardino, California)
How popular it is: 68 million customers served daily, almost 37,000 worldwide locations, available in 120 countries.
Founders: brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald.
What it sells: Burgers, sandwiches, breakfast items, desserts, coffee, milkshakes, salads, chicken, and fries.
Revenue: 24.6 billion US dollars
Amount of workers employed: 1,500,000 worldwide. McDonalds is the 2nd largest private employer on Earth.

Just to be clear, are we allowed abstract objects or must they be physical?

I nominate pizza.

From wiki:
"Pizza is a yeasted flatbread typically topped with tomato sauce and cheese and baked in an oven. It is commonly topped with a selection of meats, vegetables and condiments. "

It is one of the popular dishes today but the question is, is it cool? We'll find out.

Just to be clear, are we allowed abstract objects or must they be physical?

Abstract objects are allowed to be nominated, yes.

@Stephan, just like I pointed out to another member, a picture must be included in the nomination. Year of invention/creation needs to be there too. I will let it slide this time round, but in the future, all nominations must be correct.

Thanks man.

A7V Tank, "Mesphito"

Built: Unknown
Inventor: Joseph Vollmer
Captured: 24 April 1918
Located: On display in the Austrian War Museum
Info: Mesphito is the only surviving example of the A7V tank, out of 20 made. It was captured by the 26th Batallion of the 7th Brigade during the Second Battle of Villers-Bretonneux. Mesphito was abandoned when it got stuck in a ditch, and some quick-thinking troops of the 26th were able to drag the vehicle back to their lines under heavy fire and poison gas - history is unclear whether tanks or gun carriers towed it back. It has unfortunately lost parts over time due to guests removing pieces from it.

Hey Turbo, you got the name a bit wrong in my nomination. It's the A7V not the AV7. No other issues, though. Cheers!

I'll save my opinion for the poll, but Good Lord, that price tag.

I could easily buy two 2005 Impalas for that money.

@Obelisk in the future, save comments/opinions for a nomination for the poll thread only, as they are not allowed in this thread.

I should have something for you in the next few days.

I actually was thinking of nominating GTPlanet, but then I realized the mods would ban anyone who rated Uncool or SU. /joke

Hippos

Hippo-Wallpaper-hippos-24491034-1680-1050.jpg

The cute cuddly vegetarian thing that actually has the highest kill count in all of Africa.

Also enjoys spending time in water.
  • People, animals, plants, time periods, and land forms are not allowed for nomination. Only man-made objects and places are permitted.

My mum made a hippo. :D
And the original allowed people and animals. :(

Fine

The western style toilet.

Allows you to deposit your needs without showering whoever is on the street.

Invention credit is disputed from all the sources I found. Most say not Thomas Crapper though.

Japan went that step further and added hundreds of buttons for your toilet.

spaceagetoilet-1.jpg

Year (going by the theory that Sir John Harrington was the inventor.) 1596.
