GTP WTAC Week 38 : FF GT's

*** Mitsubishi's Eclipse model first made an appearance in 1989 and will see it's end after the 2013 model year. The 2006 version was redesigned from the third generation Eclipse (in GT PSP, you can see a 3rd-gen Eclipse Spyder) and featured more flowing lines. The 3.8 liter V6 engine puts out 263 HP and 260 ft. lbs. of torque - all of it to the front two tires. The 2004 Alfa Romeo uses it's 3.2 liter V6 engine to put it's 237 horses firmly on the front tires. It's suspension was stiffened to increase road performance at the sacrifice of ride comfort. The styling gives the car a pleasant and yet sporty appearance to onlookers. We'll all have a new challenge as we rarely use front-engine/front wheel drive (FF) vehicles in the WTAC... but it's a challenge that I am looking forward to! ***

:lol:Yeah, it goes like this - ''turn damnit, turn! turn!, why aren't you turning ??... arrgh!!!'' CRASH:ouch:,

got that right! hahaha. still at single races. i cant seem to get faster than 2'20.xxx for the eclipse.

eclipse...gotta find a better tune set. 2'22.xxx clean and 2'20.xxx with sparks at the high point.

I ran a 2'18.8xx in the eclipse and a 2'19.8xx in the Alfa (with fewer laps).

They're pretty evenly matched actually - the Alfa is easier to get round the tight hairpins but the Eclipse is more powerful on the "straights"
Makes for an interesting combo - I think the Eclipse will be faster overall but not by much

Good luck everyone 👍

that's great ! i now got a 2'19.045 with the eclipse as i get a better understanding of the 1st 2 hairpins.

Man, I'm so glad that you've been able to take the photos for me (merci beaucoup!).

On an odd note: we both chose the same colors for our cars!

nice photos, pvr. my first session with the alfa romeo, turned out to be faster than my eclipse. 2'18.9xxx , though with sparks again at the high point. i just hope i can submit a clean lap. i think, sausages was right, the alfa has better corner exit acceleration.

De nada! (more to come, I want to get some shots of these cars getting some air)

I'm still sucking with these cars, no change in my times.

Made an improvement to my times:

Eclipse - 2'18.3xx **EDIT: Or maybe not! I think I hit the inside barrier on the first hairpin - no sparks but it looks dodgy to me.
Alfa - 2'19.3xx

I made up about half a second in the first two or three turns but still made some big errors later on so I know there's more time to be found there...

@ red ice
When you say you had sparks "at the high point", do you mean the section with stone barriers which is in the shadows? Are you taking that in 4th? I found it helps to keep the car stable and still maintaining a good speed (about 84-87mph through there)

actually not that. My problem is the sweeping corner after that (turn E, @ detroitbb's map). I always hit the outside walls. Not a big sparks though. The back side of the hill(the one with the shadows) is ok with me.

I think this is gonna be the same thing as the new york week, where I spend chasing a faster lap and eventually submitted a slow one.

I also had that dodgy feel at 2nd hairpin. Checked the replays but cant see a spark. Its just too tight to view it. I'm trying really hard to catch up with your clean 2'18.

That one is tough to be aggressive in because it gets progressively tighter. I end up slowing my taps of the throttle to keep off the wall (which is the opposite of what you normally do - increase the tapping as you come closer to the straight).

I just remembered Initial D's EG6 vs AE86 hachi rokku
FF vs FR on mt.akina's Hairpins and sweepers.
EG6's driving lines are purely IN-IN-IN as opposed to hachi rokku's OUT-IN-OUT.
I thought of trying it out here.

What are you reading?

You're going to laugh: 'Eat, Pray, Love' by Elizabeth Gilbert

My fiancee was talking about something in the book that made her think and I wasn't fully understanding the depth of the subject. So I found a PDF ebook version online and loaded it onto my PSP (I use a homebrew program called Bookr to read ebooks) and started to read it. I should finish it tomorrow or the day after and hopefully I'll be enlightened enough to fully engage my fiancee on this subject again (I hate not truly understanding what someone is talking about).

I'm sure going to great lengths for a single conversational hiccup!

Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do.:indiff:

You should try the male version, it's called 'Drink Play and F@*&' by Andrew Gottlieb, its nothing outrageous but has a few very funny parts.

Back to WTAC, I finally got both cars under 2'21.

I'm done with the Eclipse and only need to try out the Alfa now.
I uploaded the replay so you can compare and maybe learn something to improve your lap times.:)

The first is a good lap but I screw it with some indecisions on corners exit :grumpy: and the second one is the definitive lap, it was a fun lap and in the first two hairpins first gear spining out the tyres and screaming 'poweeer!!!' it was so much fun. well, see you later!👍
