Out of curiosity, what exactly is your definition of spec racing?
All the same cars, same tune? Same car tuned to certain HP/weight?

Everyone being in the same exact car with the same default setup with the exact same tires.

I also prefer a "no tuning" type setup. It baffles me there isn't a "Base Model blowout" league with all of the Base Models, Race Modified and Touring Cars around. Pick a different base model and track every week and have at it. Has no one thought of it or is there no interest?

Sometimes in our lives, we get caught up in our own little world, completely oblivious of even the small actions and how can effect people we know, people we don't know and people we may only know through a medium, such as gt planet. With that being said, I want to tell you a little story about a kind act two great young men did for me.

About a week ago on Thursday, one of my step sons took my gt6 cd out of my ps3 and somehow snapped it in half. I wasn't upset or mad.. it was my fault for leaving it in there with curious children running around. No big deal.. only problem was, I hadn't been working a lot and ended up being laid off work for a week without pay, so I couldn't afford to buy a copy for a bit. I hopped online and let my friends know that I wouldn't be on until I could acquire another copy.
Well, I ended up getting an unusual reply from one of them. He offered to send me a gift card to purchase gt6 off the psn store. As generous an offer as it was, I had to decline it. That's just something i couldn't pay back for awhile. To my surprise, I get 2 new messages from 2 separate individuals with 20$ gift cards.
To me, these weekly time trials aren't about running fast times or being alien status.. sure that's a goal, but what these 2 gentleman did for me far outweigh anything that could be accomplished by running laps. They are an example of just what this is all about. They are the essence of what gives the WRS its heart and soul. I'm proud to call them my friends, not for the money they sent, but what they stand for.
I'm sure they don't want any recognition, but they deserve it in my eyes. So thank you immensely @mr_lab_rat and @patrick19602005 for being fantastic people.
And thank you to everyone else that do great acts both publicly and privately. Be it posting tunes, tips, or any kind of helpful acts. You all are absolutely the greatest part of the WRS.

I know the reward will likely be worth it, but its annoying to finally get an hour or two to get on the PS3 and I'm hit with a 2gb update...that time is likely gone now :indiff:

I feel your pain needed to jump on quickly and reference a setup for a friend and 41 mins later it's still updating .

Well it's now over an hour and a half and it just finished installing, so I clicked Confirm and it says "Another update is available"...great! Why not...it's not like I was hoping to "play" GT

what is handicap ?
anybody explain :(

It's a factor that is calculated after you have set your placing in the division. Under the old qualifiers this was determined by your combined times for the two trials and is a relative performance against a theoretical best possible time. Under the new rules it will work the same except it's now determined by your results for the 3 time trials that count toward your division placing. The actual formula for calculating this is not published.

The purpose of the handicap is to bring everyone up to the same competitive level regardless of actual skill. For example someone who places in the lowest division would get a high handicap value. In it's simplest form, the handicap is the factor that is used to derive a value that is used to adjust your actual time to give you a handicap adjusted time. If you look back at the TT results you will see 3 tables the last being the handicap adjusted results; this is the one that shows if you are outperforming; under-performing or standing still in relative terms against the other competitors regardless of your actual time.

One other thing to mention is that your handicap will decrease if you do well in TT's. When you get a negative handicap this will be used to reduce your registry handicap and it is this that is used to determine when you get promoted to a higher division. Positive handicaps i.e. bad results have no effect at this time so you will never get demoted.

For example, the last TT I did earned me a healthy negative handicap as shown by the last value

3---1'10.338---GTP_Argon r=1.727 (d1/-0.528)

Unfortunately it was one good result in a sea of bad ones so it had very little effect on my registry handicap.

If you consistently achieve a negative handicap then you will be promoted once you have reduced your handicap enough to enter the next division. Each division has a handicap range i.e Division 1 Gold is 0.000 to 1.333 so in order to get into that division you must have a handicap less than 1.333

Your handicap can be determined by looking at the registry and against your entry you will find two values as per the example below;

GTP_Argon / Argon / UK (2.256 / 2.150)

The first is the handicap you were given when you qualified the second is your current handicap. For me to get a promotion to Division 1 Bronze I would need have a handicap less than 2.000 and, must have shown consistent improvement.

Hope that helps

Playing games are soooo 2008

In future, you'll get achievement points for updating software. The updates will cost the same as the game did. Lots of men will become addicted to this and never even "Press Start". Specialist therapists will crop up all over the world to treat us. We're all doomed, the marketing men have direct access to the chemicals in our brains. The house always wins.

Is there a secret to posting pictures these days? I have tried to post in the usual manner i.e.
LotusElise.jpg
the way we used to do it but it doesn't seem to be working.

Are we now restricted?

See this post and this thread with me whining to Jordan.

I looked at the url that your Lotus image is linking to and I don't recognize it, so it *could* be the case that hotlinking images is only allowed to reputable image hosting sites? *guessing*. Like Flickr, photobucket, etc.

Using photobucket is what Jordan recommended for all our WRS threads that have been affected, and that is working OK for us, and it's what we used to do, so not too hard a workaround.

The other workaround is to save the picture to your computer and then use the "Upload File" button (same one you use to attach replays to Fetchy) and upload the pic you just saved. Then it's hosted from GTPlanet.

Ok. That site is mine and it used to work fine. Is photobucket free? I'll try instagram as I have an account there as well. I was unaware that the system would show pictures if you uploaded them as a file. That seems to be the easiest approach. Thanks.

Ok, figured it out. Remembered from a long time ago some systems do not like two or more word file names. This is one of them. Originally the file was named Lotus Elise.jpg, changing it to LotusElise.jpg works. Sorry for the trouble!

I don't know what I'm trying for. I'm at 103.1% and it's still amazing me with it's depth.

A work of genius.

Yeah I thought so too - amazing sound track by Disasterpeace too :)

I sincerely hope you've played Braid, Limbo and The Bridge too! All incredible indie puzzlers

Just ordered a PS4 with Destiny (should come next thurs....) - there's a game called The Witness which I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on.
