hi,

my RS4 wagon plows in slow/med corners but gets tail happy and spins when even touching the brakes in high speed situations, e.g. braking in a double apex sweeper. sound like a familiar problem to anyone? i have looked at the RS4/RS6 posts in here but i wonder if what i need is something more general involving theories of brake bias/VSD...

the problem is most acute on fuji 80's and apricot hill. i have most mods and available N3, sport med, sport soft, and racing soft tires.

thanks a bunch for any help or directions to the proper posts!

Try the rear bias, if this dosent work, try the following.....set the ride height so that the rear sits 10 to 12 mill lower than the front, then increase the rear stabilser to one stiffer than the front and then decrease the bound damping at the rear a little. I tried these myself as i had a similair problem to you and this made a bit of a difference to traction and i found the handling a little better!! 👍 :)

After a couple of hundreds of miles on the "Ring" and Trial Mountain I've got it.
frnt spring 8.
Back spring 6 maybe 5.5
Rebound, the top of the two... 4,4
The lower one, 6,4
Camber frnt 1.8- 1.6 depends on the track
Camber rear, 0.0
Sway bar frnt 4
Sway bar rear 6
Height 110,110, may go down to 105, BUT NO LOWER!
Fully lightened, with a cage
Chip, no pipe, race fly wheel, carbon shaft, clutch,
Brakes 6,6
NO DRIVING NANNIES, aka driving aids
Diff, frnt 20, rear 40
25% forward.
Tyres sp med front, hard rear. (rear must stay 1 harder than front)
All high speed turns drift. Car rotates very quickly at slow corners, (tyre eater though)
Will win Pan Euros with 425HP, no tranny and street tyres.
Good for 7.20's on the ring with street tyres.
I drive an S4 wagon, needless to say this is my favorite Car.
To drive well you must start your turn in, brake modestly, countersteer if needed and accelerate hard. You'll be impressed.
The key is to let the car roll, dip, squat or what ever you may call it. If the nose of the car doesn't dip fast and hard when braking, your setting are wrong and you'll plow forward. Don't get hard on the gas until 50% or more through the turn. Also, the car is a natural drifter. let it drift, and plan on the car drifting out of the bends. If you beat the drift characteristics with stiff suspension settings, you'll hate the car!

Wow, I used this car in the Beginner AWD series, stock, and I found it eminently driveable. I had a blast in it and found it very forgiving and easy to control.

If you try my settings from the previous thread, let me know what you think. I can't tell if I'm nuts or mot yet. You are nut's, no your not, yes you are, no your nuts...

Stock it's easy to drive, but I've seen how that tail can react... and it's very VERY strange on a heavy AWD car. I've had it come around on me at times when you wouldn't expect any other AWD to do that. BUt after a while, you just learn to brake differently... :D

indeed.. you don't only need to feather the throttle, you need to feather the brakes as well! My RS6 is twitchy, harsh ride, and I like it that way.. no driving aids at all, and fully tuned.. despite it's weight, i just love using a frigging estate wagon against every other car and see how they bite the dust.. :dopey:
