"Cannot start. The correct hard disk was not found."

I guess its missing the disk?? Back to the store we go.

UPDATE: We traded it in and got another one. The new one works great.

The last part through me off track. Are you asking a question, or just telling a short story?

I was asking a question. Is this thing broken or is it supposed to have an install disk? The bad part is that there is not a PS3 anywhere in town.
The screen just stays black unless I put a movie in, then it says the message above. Without anything in the PS3, the screen stays black.

A used console can be tricky, may not work. Like when you take in your Guitar Hero guitar, they tell you, "We don't take Guitar Hero nor Rock Band equipment." They can't test it out. Not much trust in people which is understandable.

Do you understand what I'm trying to say?

You don't get 120Gig fats Croooooooooooooooooooooow.
I would take it back to the store. I think it is against the law for them not to give you something as it is still in warranty by at least 365 days :p

Ok be back in about an hour with a different PS3. I got it from Walmart, maybe thats the issue. lol

Return it, and try a fat one. I have now ran out of suggestions.

EDIT: Get your money back from those crooks, and shop at Target. ;) No really, go to Target.

Sounds to me like the HDD wasn't seated properly. Would take 5 seconds to check.

Update: We returned that PS3 and got another one. Walmart is the ONLY store in my area that has any PS3's. Its the last place we wanted to buy the the PS3 but its the only one around.
The good news is that this new PS3 works! I even messed around in the Home section for a while. Quite a few laughs in there for sure. lol Also set Heather up with her own name too. Plan to watch Avatar in Blu Ray tonight.

By reading what you said. Hard disc doesnt mean disc as in install disc. It means it couldnt find the Hard Drive, as Famine suggested it could have been bumped and moved a little but that doesnt matter now as long as this one works.

@crooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow: I doubt he could have taken it to another store because once you take something back to the original store then they will give you instore credit, or at least thats what they do here.

EDIT: Glad to see you are having fun with it though mate 👍.

The unit should have worked right out of the box. If the HDD was incorrectly installed that's not the consumer's problem, good that they gave you a new one.

@Coxis: I saw that picture. That was funny. But I was posting before he posted that. :p

I noticed after posting it. Your post was like 1 minute after his, so the picture, albeit funny didn't apply. :scared:

It does look like that at first glance, though! :p

This is strange, I turned my PS3 on today at around 9pm and it gave me the same error. Obviously, this scared me a lot: I bought it used about 3 years ago, it's a launch fat 60gb with the second fresh hard drive I've put in it, a 320gb Western Digital Blue (one apparently designed for the PS3 as it generates little heat or something). This was particularly strange because I did nothing untoward last time I turned it off (except for re-downloading Warhawk and the DLC again, that's the only thing I did with it yesterday), turned it on today and it wasn't loading my background (mostly black except for a tiny photo of Brian Blessed in the corner) and took ages to do anything, the PS3 logo didn't come up. Then I got the warning, got scared, turned it off and on again and it worked fine after that. I hadn't moved it so it wasn't the HDD not seated properly, and I didn't move it to make it work again. That's probably the fourth time my PS3 has done something weird when turning on, yet every time all I've needed to do is turn it off and on again.

Was that a long post? Anyway, I don't know what causes that error but that's the first time I've ever seen it and a simple reset was all that it required. Still, if my PS3 was in warranty, I'd definitely get it replaced if I could. I don't think my luck will hold out like this for much longer, hence I've started a PS3 fund and back up all the saves I can periodically.

ok that's odd.

i get this problem like once in a month, 'cause upgarde HDD with not the exact speed.
So sometimes my HDD starts in 7200rpm and the ps3 reads with 5600rpm (not sure about the numbers). Then you get that message!

But on a new one that's more than odd.
I problems is gone after a soft restart with mine and really really rarly does it twice in a row.

But for a new one , i would complain.

Yes everything with the 2nd new 360 works perfectly. I do find the downloading a bit strange compared to the 360. The PS3 actually lets you DL the same thing multiple times in the backround without giving a warning that you are already downloading it. Not a big deal but can be a bit annoying.

Watched Avatar in Blur ray last night and whoa just stunning. I actually watched it twice in the theater. Once in 2d then once in 3d. So much better at home and the surround sound in Blur ray was just amazing. I had a PS3 2 years ago but couldnt justify the purchase back then. Now the price is lower and there are quiet a few exclusive games it worth the price. I have about 7 demos in the DL right now to check out.

Own a launch 60GB fatty. Still the best design of all the PS3's, with the only downside being the size of the HDD. Plan to upgrade in next few months. Western Digital 320GB is the one im going for, only £38.99 from Amazon. However, my beloved unit had started doing something weird: whenever i turn it on after a long absence(say overnight or over 5hrs), nothing happens onscreen, then it beeps twice, light turns yellow briefly then goes to a flashing red. What i find is if it press the standby button once, then twice, it comes on and then the console works fine. Works fine even if i turn it off only for a couple of hours then come back to it. This only happens after a long absence. Any ideas what's wrong? Is it a heating issue? Help!

Oh ok bummer. Thanks for the instant reply. Hmm maybe I should get the new Socom game. I heard it comes with the bluetooth headset.

Can I use any PS2 or PC headset with this PS3? Just wondering. Or do I need the bluetooth?

I used to use the PS2 USB headset by Logitech, but it was very difficult to hear with it on. Any cell phone Bluetooth headset will work on the PS3, I personally use a Jawbone 2. I recently purchased the Turtle Beach gamer headset and It works extremely well and it relatively comfortable.

We have a Turtle Beach x3 that we use for the 360. I was under the impression that it only worked for the 360. I guess I should try that out sometime. That would save us some money for sure.

The game comes either with the headset or without. In the UK it costs £31 with and £11 without. The official headset on it's own is £20. It will probably be cheaper just to get a generic 3rd party Bluetooth set. The Sony one i find uncomfortable to wear and doesn't sound all that good IMO.
