4?

971?

eleventy-twelve thousand?

It's a simple question with no answer. Ask PD. We don't know.

I'm trying to read my mug-o-tea right now, but it's not giving me a staight answer.

Probably under 500.

I believe GT3 had less than GT2, and am just guessing GT5 may coincendentally follow the same route.

^ Well I hope not.

-> I think realistically, I think it will be around less than 700. I sure really hope it will be more than 2,000. (:

2000 cars would be somewhat pointless.

I'd rather see 300 unique cars then 700 that are really 400 with different variants/years of the same model. Not that multiple models don't have a place as things can and do change from year to year. The RX-7 being one of the most notable. But 50 some skylines just isn't needed.

I wouldn't be surprised if it had 1,000, surely even PD know how much the PS3 will be able to handle. Whether there's any point in that 1,000 depends on what the game itself holds...if it ends up another GT4 with a few small fancies...I'd rather have 500

I agree. Quality over quantity thanks.

I agree in principle, but considering that Polyphony has been working on this game for some time, and the fact that I like those 50 Skylines, I'd rather that PD stay the course and squeeze in as many as possible. If it comes down to having accurate damage models on 100 cars, or 700 driveable cars, I think you know my answer on the subject.

I'd say you can get over 2,000 unique cars without repeating yourself, or digging into the bottom of the pail. (Iron curtan iron...*shudder*)

You realize there are quite a few unique models out there.

There's thousands and thousands of different cars for PD to pcik from, but you have to remember, they only have so much timke to put as many of tham as possible into the game, modelling them takes time and money, as do the licenses . I don't see the car count hitting the thousands for GT5, it will probably be less than GT4 had, but I could be wrong. Hence the reasons I said probably.

It could be more like what Forza 2 has in its list, 300-400 cars, depending on what Polyphony has been doing and how much they want to cram into it. It's very hard to predict because they've been about as tight lipped as a U.S. military secret project, which to me is exciting as to the possibilities. But it also leaves a ton of questions. There are basically two factors other than licenses which will determine what we see in GT5 and when we see it:

How long they have actually been working on GT5 proper - they have been hinting (even saying on occasion) that the span covers years

And whether or not damage will be in the game - Kaz insists that it'll be done right or put off for GT6. And frankly I think damage is as overrated as controller rumble. I know damage makes a game so much more serious and realistic, but that's my opinion, and I still bet that most GT players will disable damage entirely.

It depends on two things.

1) If they decide to do full damage to each car, then the number of cars will be less than that in GT4, due to the extra work required to model each car, and it's damage model.
2) If PD can get all the licenses they woud like from all the car makers. Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche being the big three still missing.

I think they will end up with less cars than GT4 :(

Excluding all of the repeats, GT4 has somewhere around 450 cars. I would expect GT5 to have approximately that same number (though not necessarily consisting of the same cars), because of all of the work it's going to take to bring the models, textures, and sounds up to par.

all i want is for GT5 to have all the racing legends that were part of Le Mans. hopefully the 905 has its real racing life in GT5

I think there will be less in total numbers, but more in the amount of different models. Instead of having 50 of the same type, hopefully they can add some more recent cars who participate in the ALMS, F1, and other racing series.*cough*Panoz LMP-1 Roadster S*cough*

Well, I think the number of cars should number no fewer than 2000....triple the amount of GT4 would be great.

How many will there be? 1000 or more...if they really want to sell consoles, they'll have twice that number. Meeting expectations isn't good enough...the next gen should be about exceeding them. GT is the only reason I'll even look at the PS3 now (no love for Sony). If the game is worth $700 just to play it, then I won't hesitate to get it...I paid $170 to play GT4 ($200 if i'd gotten a new console and paid full price for the game...got mine for $10 cheaper), so I don't think it's unreasonable to want/expect 3 times the content in a PS3 GT. If Blu-Ray is so great because of storage capacity, then use it.

I'm going to make some less-than-expertly analysis on this.

I predict the total number of cars in GT4 may be anywhere in the 500-750 range. Maybe 800. The parity among cars will be maybe 30% Japanese, 30% American, 25% European, and the other 15% will be every place else. I'm not going to use "bias" to describe the majority of cars in the game. I put the Japanese and American car counts at just about even if you consider that there may likely be as many American cars as there are Japanese. How PD hopes to work the percentages is up to them. I think we may see many more American cars ranging from low-powered models to muscle cars to true sports cars to race cars. They may provide the Sean H.'s Chevrolet Cobalt Time Attack car from last year (I'm thinking about starting a thread on this subject, so stay tuned). We'll see a variety of cars. Maybe GT5 will have about as Enthusia in terms of diversity among different cars. We may see a good number of cars from past, present, and maybe future (concept cars, that is). The diversity among Normal, Racing, Concept, and Tuner among the different cars will of course be pretty high for normal cars. Expect maybe 55% Normal Cars, a strong 30% of race cars, a 10% contingent of Tuner-type cars the world over including Drift cars, and the rest as Concepts.

It may be just the amount of diversity we'd expect from Gran Turismo. I don't think we're going to be looking at a deja vu of GT3 in terms of an old game on a new system because in terms of cars, GT3 was a disappointment over GT2 on the car front. But did many of you notice that a number of the different car companies from GT2 still carried over into GT3 with a few new additions? My X-Factors are on what cars COULD be in GT5, how much detail will we get to see from all of them, what kinds of touches will be made to make them more realistic (for example, functioning windshield wipers, animated drivers in the car like in Forza Motorsport, the dreaded "reverse lights" everyone wants, etc.), and how many can be on the track or be utilized in a number of disciplines. We may have just enough of each car company from the represented country in which the worldwide perspective of all the automobiles won't be an eye sore for the discriminating GT gamer. If they could do 1,000 cars and have as many of them without too many complaints from the public at large, I think we'll all be happy.

Well there. I've gone through this post without saying "Japanese bias." PD may surprise us again. Never know. But never, never, never, NEVER EVER just be silent about the kinds of cars you want to see in GT5 and of the parity among the different countries. Again, it doesn't mean PD will readily pick up your commentary. It just means that any Internet suggestions you hope PD can pick up and use in developing a game, it could happen. Just ask the Buick Grand National, Fiat Panda, inclusion of Nürburgring Nordschleife, inclusion of Le Mans... I'm telling you. NEVER give up! Make your voice heard. Maybe PD will take your idea and probably think about this post I made on the cars we could see in GT5. You have my word.

I'm hoping for around 500 cars, but one car I want more than any other
is the GT90 because the last game to use it the looked ok was SEGAGT 2002:(.

I'm going to guess between 700-800. The reason being that I anticipate Kazunori-sama to make Gran Turismo 5 his "race through history" game. In order to do that, there will have to be a couple dozen cars or so from various periods of history, a few like the Model T as seen in GT HD, and many more from the 1940s on, not to forget trucks and other vehicles. That being the case, there would have to be far more than 200-300 cars in the game, because that wouldn't leave much more than 100 for our time period, and I can't see that happening. I think Polyphony has been modelling cars like crazy for the past few years in higher resolution than we've seen in GT4's garage.

I do think this puts the inclusion of damage modelling in doubt. Will the PC bigots howl in contempt if it doesn't make it? Undoubtedly. Will we care?

:D

It depends on he damage model, these days you don't have to re-model a car time and time again to create damaged version of that car, you can just have the game engine bend the polygons on the fly. I really hope damage makes it, it's a big thing for me, as I've always said. Will I bitch like a baby if it doesn't, ofcourse...

Not ;).

I say polyphony should put in as many cars as possible. Including 80 of the same cars, because that is the variety that makes GT4 great, bring that to GT5, even better.
