Wow. Nice information you got there. Thanks a lot.

I read that the Lancer Evolution beats the Subaru WRX STi also, but the reviewers said that the competition was really close. Car and Driver, Motor Trend, and many more...

Best Motoring had a good review on this car. It looks like overall, the Spec C is a better deal.

spec c??? what is that

anyways i dont really like the way american mags deal with imports... i feel much more comfortable getting a broad range of reviews... but you have to remember that these cars are in stock form... and that both can be improved upon... hence niether one is a direct winner... in a way i think the subbies suspension is hurting htem more than helping htem as it should... because its stiffer than the evo... and plus the STi is heavier... making it handle worse... i still would go with a subbie... just cause there will be less.... i believe in the company... i mean realiability wise... and its a better conceptualized engine...

btw i know that there is a good spec sheet somewhere out ont he internet... try subbie worldwide... and go to there dl page... it might be there... it tells you lots about the turbo used and its advantages... keep in mind they are trying to sell it ...

Yeah, true. I might as well take an automotive class when I get older to know the ads and disads (advantages and disadvantages).

It's either he's working on his new Celica with his dad or many Japanese people need to have their car tuned up specially by Tom :)

It's been a while. I still have a week before I go back to work. You have to see what the dealership looks like now... It's beautiful. Anyways, the suspension on the Celica is almost done. My dad said I'm a quick learner due to the fact I made a perfect drift setting within a week. I installed new Brembo slotted disc's in the front and rear to get ready for the brake balancing lesson. The car will be ready by the time I go back to work.

I've done like 7 tune-ups this week... people need to learn how to change spark plugs and wires...

This topic is dying fast. It's Friday almost 5PM, almost time for a little touge action. My dad is going with me. Weird... due to the fact that he only comes with me when I'm involved in an important race. I'll let you know what happens (possible challenge...). My best friend is going as well. He's looking for a good uphill challenge. We usually don't look for challenges, but we're bored, so it's different now. I've been checking out some "scoobies" lately. I want one, but I can't stand the fact that I will be driving a different car.

That would be a good idea for you, Thio. Knowing more than the next guy is a great advantage for you. Most kids out here only know the basics. They think power is everything when it reality it's not. My car is a prime example of it. High power and a good suspension setting isn't going to win you a race when you're against a perfectly balanced car. That picture on my website of me against an FC is a good example. Back then, my car was pushing 150ps (possibly less, I've never dynoed my car). That FC stock pushes out over 210ps. My dad is a genius when it comes to modifying and balancing out a car. I think his suspension setting is one of the prime factors of why I win so many races against cars that overpower me. My biggest victory was a BNCR33 that pushed a little more than 300ps (that's what I heard from a friend). It had some engine work, but it also had stock suspension, and stock brakes. Right there is a disadvantage because you can only have so much power on a stock suspension, especially in a car that's as heavy as the R33 GT-R.

Well, now that I've said that, I'm going to do something. Take it easy.

Words of the wise....

but you have to remember suspension and brakes arent everything either... they are extremely important tho... The car's design itself is extremely important... how the weight is balanced... its rotational moment... its rigidity... its basics like track, wheelbase, and ride hieght... you also have to remember that the type of suspension is extremely important and that the less weight not sprung the quicker your car will react... the steering is also extremeley important... basically when you pick out a car you better do a lil more research than the hp, torque, weight, brakes, and tires...

ok i went on alil too much...

anyways ways thio what kind of class were you gonna take... there always vehicle dynamics classes in college... or rather seminars...

man  i don't know you (or even read most of this tread) but it sounds like you've been watching WAY TOO MUCH initial d.

He just manages to take the same path as the main character in Initial D, that's all. What a coincidence ;)

bengee, I don't know what classes I'm going to take in college, but I'm planning on taking an automotive class in De Anza College next summer. That's where my dad learned his automotive knowledge. Now, I have to work on my dad's 928 :D Do you have any suggestions?

This whole forum is dying. Why's that? Too many newbie questions that no one wants to answer?

yup you nailed it thio... no one is coming up with really good threads... i cant either tho...

well it depends upon what you wanna know more about... there are alot of good vehicle dynamics seminars that you will have access to in college... like with companies and such... i have gone to two maybe... interesting stuff... i might try to get an internship with them... the ones i am interested in are chassis design suspension... rigidity... deformation of hte chassis... blah blah... engines... which require thermodynamics... are of interest but do not capture my thoughts... unless its a rotary...

anyways wow a 928... what kind... gts
oooooooooooooo
no really what kind

1979 Porsche 928 stock except the dual racing clutch. It's been sitting in the garage for 10 years and since summer school just ended for me, I'm going to start working on it with my dad :trouble:

ahhhh an earlier one... great stuff... it has the older style rear lamps right... and no spoiler... great car i would love to own one... buts there just so dam complicated and expensive to restore

It's in pretty good condition, actually. We had to put a cover on it since my mom does a lot of stuff in the garage, so it looks like new :) My dad was trying to fix the driver's side door, and it looks like **** now, and he's asking me to fix it. I was like, what are you thinking?!?!?! lol but everything else is in good shape :D

My dad added the '83 spoiler on the rear so it looks like an '83 and yes, the rear end looks too old school for me :p Love the car though

hahaha so do i... man gts's sell for 20-30k and gt's for a bit less... i think if i was gonna get the car i would get an s4... cheapest but not too bad of the newer ones... i dont really like the sunken and stripped rear lamps of hte older ones... but hey... its not ugly... lol... oh man i wish i owned a 928...

i will have to settle for a 944 turbo s 89

944's are so much popular than the 928's around here in the South Bay, but I think it's a bad idea because the engine's so big: 3 litres for an Inline 4? That's crazy, but Porsche did it :p Good car also. The way I think of the 944 is that it's half of a 928 :D

Actually, there was this guy that I knew that had 3 944's. It was crazy. There were two in the backyard and one in the garage. The one in the garage was his daily driver and the other two in the backyard was his project cars. I just wish I had that much free time especially around this time.

i think the turbo s is one of hte best models of 944 you can get... s2 is last model but i dunno...

teh turbo s (951) and s2 are a bit lighter and have as good specs as 928s from years earlier... lol... but dam i wish i could afford a 928... too dangerous an investment i do not have hte funds for a 928.... a 944 i could prolly handle...

lol your friend had 1.5 928s then lol... dam three wtf are you gonna do with three... might as well have gotten a 928 gts or gt DROOL

First off.

man i don't know you (or even read most of this tread) but it sounds like you've been watching WAY TOO MUCH initial d.

Clearly, you don't know much about the Japanese racing world. Everything that happenes in Initial D, happens here (except for an AE86 to beat everyone). It just happens.

About these Porsches... I am going to ask my dad if he can get me a 944. Nobody... and I mean NOBODY has a Porsche unless they are super-rich. A 944 seems to be a cheap car in the States, I'll ask some friends of mine how much one will cost me, and how much I'm looking for shipping. I doubt it'll happen, but it's an idea. I'm getting promoted soon, therefore the money will be flowing in some more. ;) There's now 3 people in these forums that have AE86's. Yay.

deity is that initial take from the real story of keichi thuciya ...
if its true than im right ...:D & i loved to see the tokyo hardcore . cic u have any url to the vids...:)

I'm not sure. I don't know much about his history. If Tsuchiya started drifting when he was 12, then I think Shigeno just made up a character that is just like him. Although, I'm sure Tsuchiya was into cars when he was 18. I don't really know a lot about Initial D. When it came out, everyone watched. And I mean EVERYONE. After I watched the whole seasons, the movie came out, and I eventually bought it on DVD. Then I played the games just for fun. But other than that, I'm not sure if it's somehow related to how Tsuchiya started racing.

-Tom

I wasn't aware of that. The only thing I remember is him saying that he has the engine from an AE86. That's cool if he has one.

-Tom

By the way... Live for Speed and NetKar are the coolest games I've ever played. If you have broadband, and a force feedback wheel, PLAY THEM NOW!
