I didn't know that was his. I thought it belonged to a friend of his. Sucks that it got robbed. If anyone did that to my car, I would kill whomever did it... no joke.

to comment on the earlier statement that owning a porsche means your rich... that is not the case for 914... 924... 944... and to some extent 928 and the older 911 and 912... but i do think thio is well off cuase he lives in mountain view... lucky kid
 
i have played the live for speed game on the comp but at the time i had no wheel and it was only a demo... is there a full game out now???
 
Well first off, having a Porsche here, is different. I don't see any... ever. Now secondly, Live for Speed came out with a version S1. It costs something like £12 which comes out to about $20USD. It's awesome and I've come out with some pretty good drift settings. And get a wheel, it makes the game so much better. NetKar is good, but it still needs some development done to it. I usually never play games on the computer, but since my friend bought a wheel, it's pretty neat. He wants me to ask if anyone knows if the new Microsoft Force Feedback wheel (USB) will work on a PS2 for games like GT3. I don't have a wheel for PS2, but I want to try racing with a wheel. This will give me something to do so I don't die of boredom. Is that the Ultima GTR on your avatar? That's a sweet car.

Well gentlemen, it's Saturday almost 4:40 (I know all of you have to be sleeping...) and I'm getting ready for the battles tonight. I hope someone good challenges me so I can race. Last guy I raced spun out in the 3rd hairpin:lol:. Well, I'll be back in a few hours (when you all will probably wake up) to let you guys know if anything fun happens. Take it easy.

I guess Porsche's in your area is scarce because of the import taxes and stuff like that. I don't know much about that, but compared to Hong Kong, I know that they have many Bentleys and Rolls Royces. That's because almost everyone there is very wealthy so they are capable of affording a Bentley eventhough the city has like a 100% import tax to keep the internal economy stable. Does that apply to you Deity and the other people in Japan? If so, then that's probably why you don't see so many or any Porsches at all.

bengee, I guess you can say that my dad was lucky in picking up the car. He got it from his automotive class for less than a $1000 USD. It's in pretty good condition too and he's saving it because it's such a treasure. I can't wait to hear this thing roar out of the garage :D

Well, I started learning the basics when I was 17, a year before I got my license. I drove every now and then when I was younger, but I wasn't trying to learn anything, I just wanted to be "cool" and drive at a young age. I'm stupid.

But other than that. I just got back, it's almost 4AM. And it was one hell of a night. A lot of people from Top End were there, which is a Honda NSX group that I thought raced on the highways. They had 2 guys that were set up for the mountain passes. Nobody raced, it was just a free-for-all night. But we managed to pull off some 'unofficial' races. First off, my dad was bored. He was the only guy over the age of 35 there. So he took off. One of the Top End guys chased him. And I realized it, and knew that the NSX was going to be killed. About an hour later, I called my dad and asked him what happened. He blew him away. And the Top End guy never returned... Then I wanted to do a few passes. So I did some, and this guy in a S15 Silvia just wanted to see if he could keep up with me. He said he just got a new suspension and some small things for his engine recently installed. I was saying in my head that I was going to outrun him on the straights due to my car only weighing around 850kg (very light, although interior is stock). The guy kept up with me the entire time. I was surprized then I realized that the guy said that he had some small things recently installed, but he might've had some big things installed in the past. But, there's a part on the pass (Iroha-zaka if you're wondering) that has 7 consecutive hairpins. That's where I just completely humiliated him. I'm not sure if I took them good, or he took them bad. But the lead was from a second, to 4 seconds just from those turns. Iroha-zaka is full of hairpins, but around 60 or 70% completion of the pass, it gets ugly. That part of the pass is the spot people usually don't like. I love it, and that's the spot where I usually win. After the race, he asked me how I did it, and things like that. But I asked him what was under his hood. Comes out that he has a larger turbine installed. HKS but I didn't ask him about it. I would say that car is pushing somewhere around 320ps. They push 250ps stock, but he spent a lot of money on suspension, and weight-lessening upgrades. It was fun, hope you enjoyed reading this.

Deity, I went to your website and there were two pictures that captured your dad's Trueno's interior. How come there are no spedometers in the cabin?
 
When the AE86 was released, there was a special option only found in 10% of the AE86's made. I know this feature didn't hit the U.S. In my dad's interior, do you see that gauges that looks similar to Honda's S2000? That was the optional digital tachometer and speedometer. As well as several other gauges. The speed is measured in the box underneath the area around 4500-7000rpm. And I realized that the picture I used is really, really old. My dad changed a lot in the interior making it more "civilized." But, that's where the speed is shown.

Ah I see. The perspective the picture was taken doesn't really show the spedometer, but I can see it now.

By the way, good story about you and your dad. It sounds like you should be well known in Japan :)
 
My dad is well known with a lot of the JGTC guys, but he doesn't like popularity. Racers here are admired like movie stars so that's the main reason why my dad never went into professional racing. I'm known by many of the street racers (mostly young kids) because I'm the only non-Asian (round-eye!) that is actually decent at drifting. My best friend... he has a lot to learn, but his car was set up for circuits, not the mountains. Maybe one day, I'll be on Best Motoring... but I doubt it. Then again, you never know. About my dad, I've never been in the car when he drifts. I rarely ride with him, and if I do, he never does anything crazy. He told me that I'll never be in the car with him when he drifts. Reason why he said that is still unknown. But the first time he slammed the pedal with me in the car, I felt my organs moving around in my body... I've been inside a 900ps GT-R and it felt great, but nothing like my dad's car. I still don't even have accurate numbers about his horsepower. When he dynos, he never takes me. When he does anything to his car, it's all a big secret. He caught me looking under the hood of his car and got really, really mad at me. Maybe he doesn't want me to be jealous or anything like that. His engine is absolutely beautiful. It's so clean and perfect. It looks identical to the GT300 3S-GTE which is good, but it's not fair to me. Maybe when I get his age, I'll have something as sick as his car.

I love that show. Although I don't understand it, they are pretty good in evaluating the cars. I just judge how they gesture their hands and face in their reviews to see what's good and bad about the car they are talking about. I can't wait to see you on that show ;)
 
The only way I'll be on that show now, is if I challenge Tsuchiya... and by doing that, I will lose in front of 100 million people. So I won't try that approach. They really know what they're talking about when it comes to the pros and cons to a sports car. They are very knowledgable when it comes to things like that. The best episode is the Semi-autos Vs. the manual transmissions. I think it was EvoVII GS-R, EvoVII GT-A (Auto), BMW M3 SMG, BMW M3 6MT, Ferrari 360 F1, and Ferrari 360 6MT. That was really cool, and the EvoVII GS-R pulled it off. It lead from the start, and nobody got close to it. That's one of the best 5 lap battles from Tsukuba.

I bought one episode where they were driving the Subaru WRX STi and the STi Spec C. It looked interesting, but I couldn't understand it :(

What was the date of that episodewit the MT and tne SMT? I couldn't find it on the internet or at my local import store.
 
I saw that AE86 Club video on their website, but it's only for Japan I think. It's not available over here. I'll have to go and dig up some more information about that.

There needs to be more shows like Best Motoring over here in the US. Our car shows are talking about space and how convenient it is. Some of the car shows like Motorweek and Car and Driver are too general with covering all of the cars that we have here. We should have a show that just looks into sport cars.
 
So far, it is. Our media isn't diversifying the people's eyes into what other cars in the world are providing. Most of our car shows only cover what cars are on the US soil while Best Motoring covers sport cars that take up space. I know that they covered the Aston Martin Vanquish, Porsche GT3, Ferrari 360 Modena F1, and many other cars, even the Mustang. Our media doesn't do that. Heh, they only focus on drag racing, stock car racing [ironic in it's name] and Muscle Cars.

The only way that the US citizens can know about cars that aren't allowed onto US soil is that either their friends know about it or that they have a connection to their native country. So far, Gran Turismo 3 is bridging that gap and now young people are starting to realize that there are more cars out there than what's over here.

That AE86 is technically my dad's, although I picked it out for him. :) He's not a car nut, he just wanted something cheap and reliable and wanted me to find it. So, I found something that would be fun for me 'cause I knew I would get to borrow it. :D It was loaned to me for a period of about 4 months when my AW11 was down for an engine swap.

seriously, yeah if u watch TNN, theres a show called super2nr tv, which has a buncha white guys talkin about imports, and using such "hip" lingo as tight, sweet, and niceeeeee, its so retarded, anywho, the hot version best motoring is pretty good, i have the one where the 2 AE's race the R34 GT-R, and i have the super car race with all the lambos and stuff, and the japansese car race witht eh NSX, RX-7,EVOs,and the Skylines, hopefully import culture will catch on, not in a 2 fast 2 furious way, but really, ppl need more appreciation for drifting and such, but its america, its a friggin meltin pot of cultures
