First lap heroes, namely wanna be Ayrton Sennas. So, you’ve qualified badly, or not at all, and are going to make up loads of places in the first lap. Right… here we go… Green light! You’re off! First corner, first lap, brake late! Here we go, I’m past two!! BAM!!!! Aw no… I’ve wrecked myself and five others. This is Route One to loosing friends on track… do yourself a favour and avoid this urge.

A great article for people new to the service. The basics of overtaking.

What kind of lap times are you hitting Eric? I hit 1:33.914 last night with a slightly adjusted "stock" setup. I lose the most time in Quebec Corner (Turn 3) I think, I can't quite figure out a line for it, although it seems going wide a bit, then apexing later than what you would think seems to work, at least in my experience.

I think my good laps were in the 1'33s. Quali time was 1'32.9, and the setup changes should bring that down if I'm not using the tire properly. A couple people have 1'31s. Turn 3 has a little bit of a crest to it, I tend to get to the rumble strip right at the crest (I've noticed speeds of 78-81mph) and hold a neutral throttle position there for a moment until you can accelerate and not run wide. Some laps I'll use up the whole track width on exit, others just about half. I haven't really noticed a difference either way.

I believe Long Beach is on the works, at least it's been planned as a project for some time now...

Yeah this would've been the first, but, as iRacing want their tracks true to life, the amount of trackside objects (buildings and what not) are causing afew problems.

I thinks it's right down on their list of priorities at the moment.

I'm such an idiot.. I was leading in the Solstice at Charlotte by a huge margin over second place, and I got lose coming back onto the Nascar section and smacked the wall.. :(

^ Oh hey, thats me :p How embarrassing... you must have seen me smack that wall like a noob...

well no i was that fast i didn't see anything :D

No really i was very busy whit fighting that orange car at the whole race. The guy made a mistake at the end.

You are the red car right? Then you helped me alot :)

I think iracing really needs to reward members more with promotions or atleast help some people who are paying monthly out. I suggest if you buy 3 months in a row, you either get new car or another month. I haven't played in last two weeks since it ran out mainly because I've been off and on fighting sinus infection.

I'd say you where close on pricing, but there's no way of knowing yet! It may very well be free, who knows!

Are they that much? Hm. Guess I haven't bought one in a while. FALSE ALARM!
I'm pumped about it in any case. Not to open a can of worms, but I don't feel $16 is unreasonable given the great job iRacing does on its tracks.

Define arcade racer? Because at the moment, the Beta for Project CARS feels a heck of a lot more realistic to me than iRacing at the moment. The lack of feel from the tires on every Tire model iRacing has ever used is just a joke if you ask me. Had a discussion with a bunch of my iRacing friends that race cars in real life. They are focusing on the wrong things at the moment. In our minds at least...
A few problems I find in pCARS and as you are aware it is still early in it's development. I find the handling in all cars way off, it reminds me of early CART. I find a lot of the cars feel exactly the same as far as handling goes and their tire model is terrible compared to iRacings.

The arcade feel is all the rip off names of tracks and cars, change 2 elements on a track and they don't need to license it. No laser scanned tracks, lets just use public elevation charts, there is a thread where SMS was asking members if anyone had better maps or photos for certain tracks because they felt some were off to far. Like wise for cars, change 3 elements and they can name them whatever they please and again no license is required.

Then so many people think pCARS has outstanding graphics, they don't. They use a lot of shortcuts in lighting as well as modelling and texturing. I have been modelling and animating for over 10 years, I don't consider my self an expert but I know more then the average person. Check out my web site for some of my work.

pCARS is being developed for consoles, that is their target. There will be some eye candy for the PC and it might even turn out to be a half decent racer but it will never be an iRacing Service

I'm guessing left888 hasn't played pCARS.

It might not be "hardcore" like iRacing, but it's absolutely not "arcade" either.

I bought into it around release 36 or so. I've played against the kamikaze AI racers so I suppose I have played this Arcade thriller.

So has this been announced at iRacing? I was over their earlier today and did not see any announcement. Has iRacing obtained a license already? This would be awesome.

The iRacing crew at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, Montreal, today, doing what they do best. ;) 👍

No doubt it will be a long time until we see it for sale, but at least we know it's coming. <excited>

Wowza. I had no idea iRacing was so much more expensive in the past. The cost of owning all content at those prices would be astronomical!

But also think about how much it cost for a brand new organization to spend on all that equipment, so now I assume the big debts have been covered. It's like you owned a small pizza shop, and you just bought 3 specially designated delivery vehicles, now you need to cover your expenses faster and that means with higher prices but with the luxury of delivery. I just pulled that scenario out of thin air but that's how I made sense of it, that it was so expensive initially.

Didn't someone say in the past that all content with the 25% discount was about $530 and items bought with the 20% discount was $6xx and no discount was high $7xx range? I couldn't imagine paying $1400 for everything, that's higher than buying a CSW+ BMW+ F1 rims+ CSP V2

I guess when people look at this as a game it is expensive, but for me it's a hobby. I have another hobby as well. I'm competing in High End car audio.. NO ITS NOT loud is best, but my car audio system out plays a lot of High End Home stereos. Been 3rd in the Euro finals 2010.. (EMMA Sound quality)

To build this costed me about 22 000USD and competing had a yearly expense of 300USD and if I wanted to go to the Eurofinals I had to pay the trip, hotels and of course a fee to compete. Total of about 1500-2000USD.
When I was active I only participated every other year and had to save my money the other every two years.

So for me iRacing is cheap, almost to cheap. Now we see a lot of people with no care for the service signing up because they want to try it. Even a free Cadilac deals have brought a lot of drivers that should never been in the service in my honest opinion.

Today I even heard a guy asking over VOIP.. Would it be a good upgrade to change my controller for a wheel? Come on you drive a sim, not a game!!

Just bumped into the top go kart driver in North America on a hoste practice lobby. Beat his fastest MX5 time on Mid Ohio by 2 tenths. :sly:

McLaren Automotive
McLaren 12C Can-Am Edition racing concept announced:

McLaren GT, the team responsible for building the 12C GT3s seen racing across Europe this summer, are debuting a brand new concept racer at this weekends Pebble Beach Concours d'Eleganc...e. The 12C Can-Am edition - named after the infamous race series which saw some of McLarens greatest wins - is the first model that McLaren GT has displayed in North America, and is designed specifically for the market. The concept features the same carbon fibre MonoCell as the road going 12C, but adds a host of modifications designed strictly for the track: A brand new aerodynamics kit including splitter, diffuser and rear wing increases downforce by 30%, an uprated engine package generates up to 630hp, and extensive use of carbon fibre reduces weight to just 1,200kg (2645.5lbs). So what do you think, are you ready to race yet?
Now I want this!!!

I've read a couple times lately that the initial cost of iRacing has nearly been paid off, and so we could expect to see bigger advancements at that point.

Mustang update: 10 laps on my same setup in practice reported pretty normal tire wear and temperatures, so I'd have to assume all that extra heat on the outside of the tire was a side effect of my damage. 10 laps in and I was still in the 1'33s.
