I am with you man! But after last night's experience(got wrecked twice by the same moron while leading and lapping him, that moron was 8 laps behind and has a SR of .47) I've decided to get out of the rookie license before I start racing for the win again. So far it has worked amazingly! I'm at 3.44 the highest it has ever been, at this rate I'll be out of the rookie class in one more race!

I had in my first race what I guess you could call a first corner mashup, I did a bunch of races and learned lessons and improved each time, and won a few. I had practiced and time trialed a lot so I knew I could make the tyres last 20 laps, but it was a completely different game with other cars around (ovals are even scarier with other cars!), but I got into my stride and adjusted my approach and my last Mx5 race I won quite comfortably and it felt like (after winning a couple) that I knew what I had to do to win a race.

It wasn't about running 59 second laps (though it would be at top division irating) but it was about simply being consistant over the whole race and not allowing my ego to get the better of me. The difficult challenges come with avoiding accidents and trying to overtake crazy rookies who try block you from lapping them by swerving all over the road. But if you can get through to the D licence and keep your finishing positions decent then you know that you're less likely to also have to deal with crazy low iRating D/C licence drivers who are now trying to race after snailing it around in rookie to get SR for their D licence.

I can totally understand not wanting to put yourself at risk and just getting the D licence, but I do think its silly when drivers start in the pits and just run around sight seeing for 20 laps just so they can gain SR, you can do that in time trials (like me at the moment? :ouch:)

hey guys,

i just got a question about the championship points in iracing.

Im running the nvidia mx5 season and i was in 3rd for the first 2 weeks, now im suddenly 19th even though i do like 2-3 races a day and usually finished in top 3 all the time, giving me massive points.
I also saw that sometimes in the result sheet the championship points are highlighted in red and sometimes just normal. - what does the red points mean?

It averages all your races from the week. So if you really want to do well you would have one race a week. Or if you do bad on the first race, then do a few good ones to get points. But it averages.

I'm new to iRacing (joined 4/19/11) and am running the street stocks on ovals primarily. I also run the late models but took last week off as I never got comfortable testing at Lanier.

So, I did a bonehead maneuver last night. I logged in and joined a street stock race that was going to be at Thompson as I wanted one last shot at winning there before the schedule went to Charlotte. I went into the pre-race test session (the solo test) and and ran some laps looking forward to the main event. When it came time to leave the test and join the race, I did so.

Problem was I had forgotten that the schedule changed from Thompson to Charlotte at the GMT. So, I tested at Thomspon and then got entered into a race at Charlotte - a track I'd never so much as practiced at in a street stock or any other car for that matter.

So, I figured I'd just hang back and stay out of the way and build SR if nothing else. A race is no place to "find the line" through the turns and risk wrecking myself and others, right? Well, I quickly went from 11th to 5th just cruising and minding my own business.

And, along comes a lapper who was on fresh tires so I let him by giving a wide berth. One lap later, he slams the outside wall and spins down the track. Instead of holding the brake to keep his car off the race line, he allows it to spin back onto the race surface directly in my path. I never saw it coming. I finished 6 laps down and in 9th position with my iRating and SR both taking a nice hit for the incident.

Had I been practicing at Charlotte I could've predicted better where the non-driver was going to come to rest and avoided the whole thing. Guess I'll keep an eye on the GMT a little more closely in the future.

SR sitting at 3.66 at the moment!! D license her I come!!

I got up to 3.6 today, also! The promotion date is the 30th I think, so no more road racing for me until then.

It averages 'best half' of them, so if you race two race, it takes better of them to championship. If you race four race, it averages best two of them etc etc... so usually best way is race two race in a week. If you race three, it counts two best of them.

I don't think I can wait that long without racing!! I'll just keep playing dodge the idiot!!

Have gotten down to 1:48.2's now. Really looking to break into the 47's but we will see. Hopefully the ATLAS data acquisition program will help me further set up my car. I love being able to read all the info that it has. Gives me a much further insight into how important each and every movement is accounted for in the FW31

I give up on the qualifying setup. 6 laps in second stint race trim (10 laps of fuel) and I got down to 1:50.5's. Anybody testing the FW31 at Spa right now know if that is competitive?

Well, I guess that depends on what you define competitive as. From what I remember, the top guys in the Drivers Championship were running 1:43's in qualy last time out :scared:

It depends on the division and the guys you race against, the world record is 1:44.8 in qualifying and a 1:46.1 in the race (GP Pits). Anything under 1:50 and you're good to go imo, in the lower divisions you would do well with 1:50's but if you're racing the fast guys then 1:50 is going to leave you trailing behind.

Just going to leave this here, read the description :).

Man I hate to say it but yup, you should've anticipated. You had a good pass on exit set up there braking a bit earlier would 've gotten you in a pretty good possition. It is a tough situation it all happened too fast but ultimately responsability for the incident will rest on you because you are the car trailing and trying to set up the pass.
BTW, what time was this race? I think I raced you, did you spun in front of me? Light blue/black/orange car?

On an unrelated note............My SR is at 3.99 Woohoo!!

question....if you enter a race and someone ****s up your race and forces you to retire, can you go back into the race as a ghost?

This race was at 6 or 7am GMT (4 or 5pm my time). My car has no blue in it so it may not have been me. My name is Kyle Goode on the game if that helps ring bells.

Here is another video, another example of why my rating is not going up. My rating is only 2.59, it has fluxuated alot around this point since I got the game :/. Once I get over 3 I hope its smooth sailing.

Getting through rookie is all about staying out of trouble, it is hard at first but it only gets harder to gain SR. If I do a Nvidia Cup and have ONE incident I lose SR because of where my Class/SR is (Class A 4.67). The higher you go the harder SR is to get. Rookie you can have 10 incidents-ish and still gain. But saying that, when you get higher you get less "rookies". Funny that.

Hope it improves for you soon Legendary. 👍

I'm In Division 2. I now I can get more time out of the car. Should be able to get below the 50's.

Yup! It was you, we ran together in one race and I can tell you are a good clean driver by the way you reacted after the spin. I was the light blue car, you spun right before pit entry as I was behind and we rubed. Then you texted "Sorry" at the end of the race you texted 'Not a very clean race for me". You are right some of the back markers on that race were loonies! You were very courteous when we were lapping by, I am very much looking forward to runing with you again man, you are a clean good driver just having bad luck. Try starting from the back or letting everyone trough at the start, that way you'll identify the loonies on turn 1 and will know how and who to race.

Sorry for the concecutive post but WOOHOO!!! Hello D license! Sitting at D 3.44 at the moment!! iRating at 1169 wich I got no clue if it is good or bad...

Congrats!

As for the video above, its the passing drivers fault.. but with that said the car infront did brake very early so theres no way to really anticipate that. I'm also amazed at how the car behind seemed uneffected by that fairly big shunt.

Just look to your MPR. If you have done all what they want next from you, then you will climb up and must not waiting till the saisons end. :)

And gratz Brock for your first win. :D 👍

Thanks mate...it's about time  And fortunately I was able to stay out of trouble :sly: Now I just gotta keep grinding away, and remember how to use the clutch properly in order to gain a bit of time.

Hopefully I can start doing some Skippie races with you once I get my rating up ;)

Thank's for the hint Rudi! I will definitely look into and take advantage of it!

i see. But does anyone know why sometimes the champ. points are highlighted in red and sometimes normal?
