I got a great setup for Indycar at Indy
What series are you runing? Keep in mind that the Mazda Cup is a Fixed setup series meaning that you can't change setup so you won't see it till you run a different series.
Noooo. Thank you for the response. I really wished I had saved that setup. I am sure it would have taught me a lot about how setups work in iRacing.Ya you have to save those shared setups
Thanks for the offer mate.. Unfortunately I don't have that car. Maybe later on, I will hit you up for that.I got a great setup for Indycar at Indy![]()
So, who's planning on running the 2.4hrs of Daytona this Saturday?
Looking forward to this race. It'll be the longest sim race I've ever done so far. Got a new sport seat coming in a day or two and hope its comfy.
Hope to see GTP representing on Saturday.👍
Its for the InRacingNews Challenge MC. I have only raced in 16 races (total on iRacing), and most of those happened over 6 months ago. My safety rating is D4.43 though, so I have access to a fair amount of content.. I haven't purchased anything yet, though.
JavI'll definitely be there! Gotta find a good setup for the Riley! Only one I have is the one that guy shared on the hosted session we were a few weeks back...
I got a setup to share if you want it. I ran a best of 1:39.9xx and in the 41's with full fuel load. A guy by the name David Scott shared it to all the other night in a SRT 2.4 practice. Its pretty stable all around and much better in turn 1 than any setup tried so far. Just wonder if the updated scan is going to change how it feels? Hope not.
Then you need to meet your MRP to get promoted to C license, just do 4 races or TTs on the Grand Touring Cup with the MX5 and you'll get promoted! Then the real good stuff in iRacing starts!
a lot tougher than GT5, but so much more rewarding.
Just curious but when you say tougher...tougher in what way?
I'll take a crack at this..
For one most of the cars don't have ABS. This takes a while to get used to. No more mashing the brake to the floor like in GT5 when you want full braking force. It is very, very easy to lock up the brakes in iRacing. In which case you need to be quick with your feet, and stable with your hands.
Secondly. The cars are just more "lively." The cars are very responsive, but if your not careful you will end up backwards.. a lot. It will take a while to keep the car in the right direction. But once you get the feel of keeping it on the track, every little advancement is so rewarding. When I am running fast on this service, I really feel like I am on the edge of spinning out at almost every corner and braking point.
Thirdly. If you crash, there is no getting back on the track and continuing the race. If you are lucky you will have taken slight damage, and can limp back to the pits. Frequently, however, you will have to call for the "tow truck." This will take you to the pits, where you will likely lose multiple laps while the repairs take place.
Fourth.. The safety rating system. To advance to better series and better cars, you must prove that you are a safe driver. In order to accomplish this you will need to keep your loss of control, going slightly off track, and contact with others to a minimum. For some racers this is quite easy and natural. For others this is quite difficult.
There are probably other things that I am forgetting... but this should give you a good idea of how iRacing is different than GT5.
All of the above, though, makes it very rewarding when done right. It will be "tougher" initially, but I am sure you will find your groove.
Thanks for the detailed explanation red much appreciated and very interestingSo let me ask you this regarding the Skippy....if I can drive the cars in GPL with some form of skill, would I be able to tame the Skippy or even the Star Mazda?
Question:
I'm an experienced sim racer, mostly from GT, and i consider myself one of the fastest in the game. Starting with zero iracing experience, how many hours of racing time and how many many $ before i can start racing in the more advanced leagues? (F1 etc)

HAHA..improvement.
Day 1 practice, after a few laps I got my time on Watkins down to 1.27 in the Skippy. That is about 2 - 3 seconds off the world record right now. I am 100% sure I can keep 1.27 as my race pace without incidents after a few days and looking at the splits, this is quite a good time and should be top 3. This is only my second track in the Skip, pretty chuffed about this.
But of course, race day will be different as I am sure someone will hit me from the back..argh...need to qualify with a nice pace.
My goals for this week
Qualifying time: 1.26.
Race pace: 1.27.

I came from GT and consider myself to be pretty decent at that sim, but there is a massive learning curve with iRacing. Most notably the braking (no anti lock), and the only option for an interior driving view as opposed to GT's ground view, is also a big change. You can make the jump pretty easily, but I've found it tough to jump back and forth between the two.
Give iRacing a shot for 3 months, it's worth it.
Good luck!
I can vouch that Tony (SuperSic) is pure alien... and he is not the alien type that just time trials. He is a pure racer. I have been in many leagues with him here on GTPlanet, and he is pretty much "untouchable."I see. Then say a top iracing driver decided to start from scratch. With him in mind, same question as above.
this is what i have purchased
1 year + f1 car, silverstone, zandvot
cars, nascar impala, mustang, hpd, corvette (i really want to be in b series to race both cars)
tracks, daytona, spa, road atlanta, watkins, sebring, mosport, suzuka
I WOULD SPEND IT AGAIN in a heart beat.
redreevosYeah.. I would say you are pretty decent.GTAcademy finalist and all. I will look for you on iRacing. I assume it is just your full name, John.
Anyone know how to shift display up and down in iracing?
