Because you are putting more weight on the nose then turning it will initially turn in, but right before apex the car will understeer given that you don't mash the throttle and drift it out, because the RF is going the same speed as the LF as opposed to the RF going faster (to maintain outside of the LF tire maintaining a coordinated turn)

If you know how a rudder on a plane has to be used with the ailerons to maintain a turn, if you mash the rudder pedal to the floor then it'll turn sideways in the air similar to having too much rear bias because both are using the arm of the rear. If you've ever heard Weight x Arm = Moment, replace weight with grip (or lack there of), brakes tend to reduce grip in the rear. (if I really tried to explain it using this analogy it'd be about a 3 page post  if the analogy confused you like it did to me when I first learned it, just ignore the analogy)

Its a little confusing but also makes sense at same time. I can never find right balance over a run though, but have only now started playing with settings.

I slowly am understand why there is usually a wanting need for a button box.

I finished 5th out of 13 I think it was. That was my first Riley race, 3 incidents which I like. Not bad for having one arm eh! :)

I guess you finished in 3rd? good showing.

Yes, I finished 3rd with a nice battle with that Tony guy. It wasn't really a bumper to bumper battle, but he was constantly 2-4 second behind me. So I really had to push throughout the entire race to keep him behind me.

I started 4th, but I soon was down to 5th as I seen Sullivan2 before and what he risk to overtake so I let him go as soon as he tried. I even slowed down to avoid any problems. He is by far faster than me so letting him passed didn't slow me down, but I seen this guy twice and both times he have left the room because of damage and I just didn't want to be part of that.

Then I saw a car at pit and when passing him my spotter said I was back in forth position. To bad for him, lucky for me! and after some more laps Sullivan2 made one of his hasty moves and his race was ended. So a consistency podium, not really a hard earn battle podium. But I take any podium as a victory in Grand Am, really hard competition, but really fair and nice driving by most

And how you manage to race with one arm is beyond me, I can't even use one arm to get a sip of my water bottle during the race.

Looking forward to the two next weeks with Watkins Glen and Daytona, but Infinion is a track I can do without, feels more like hill climbing than a racetrack. But I guess I have to try it ;)

Maybe I see you in some future races also, going to go through with the Grand Am season.

how is the grand am competition erik?? is it tough?? comparing with the skill level we had in our icgtc how would you compare the skills in grand am vs the skills we had there?? ( not the game just skill wise.. )

That's not going to be easy to answer, a lot of skillful drivers in ICGTC, but that was another ballpark. A lot of other factors to take into consideration.
But up against the best drivers in Grand Am I doubt you can even compare it. A lot smarter drivers and very fast.

I always though being fast in GT5 was how good you could take advantage of the flaws in the game and even exploit it to the fullest. Also what made me leave in a hurry, when I actually tried something that celebrated driving skills instead of game flaws.

So for me to sit and compare it the way you ask me.. Well if I read between the lines here I can say you one thing. No your not going to win it the first season! ;)

This is an excellent way to do things. Remembering drivers who have given you problems or you have seen make terrible aggressive moves will save you quite a bit of headaches in the future. There are even a couple people who have made paints that you put in your paints folder with that driver's customer ID number, then whenever you race with them, you see a big yellow/black warning pattern over their whole car. Other people just write down lists. I don't do either of those, but like you, I remember the names of those who are particularly bad.

I don't normally have same bad driver for more than few races, but the sullivan2 does ring a bell! The biggest one that I remember was Patrick O'toole, he doesn't shut up either.

I normally try to give people benefit of the doubt most of the time when I get wrecked, and haven't made a list. It seems sometimes people have bad week of racing, or some mistakes and their name is out there as bad driver.

Hey guys, maybe a noob question, but i really need to know this, and i can't find the answer.

Is it possible to serve penalty in pits without doing whole pit stuff (like changing tyres)?

I've got this second time in my iracing life and that hurt my race really bad.

I do this on the grid usually, because it resets itself as soon as you leave pit.

But you have to zero out the adding of fuel (unchecked the radio button there) F4 I believe it is (I moved it so I'm not really sure) and zero out the tires box as well. Then when going into pit you only do the penalty or repair needed to the car.

Like I said when I place my car on the grid I open it up, zero it all out so it's ready. And hope I don't have to pit because a penalty or a damage ;)
Just remember, if you go into pit to serve a penalty it will reset on its way out of pit again. At least I haven't found a way to disable it completely. I would much rather have to select tires and fuel instead of removing the add of it.

Guys, I think I might've messed things up just a little bit.

Did my first race tonight with the Mazda at Okayama Short. Finished Sixth (Personal victory!!! YEAH!!!), but the result is a bit overshowed by the fact I actually started 1st on the grid and that I could've had 4th or 5th if I had been more constant with my pace. However, the part where I made a mistake was near the end when this other car was in front of me lapping considerably slower. I caught up to him coming to every corner and yet he braked and closed the gate on me rather annoyingly, to which I responded with plenty of breaking in order to prevent any contact, which in turn left me with more catching up to make. This went on for two or three laps, and when the white flag approached I decided to go for it, if he wasn't gonna be Mr. Nice, neither would I (Here's the mistake). He went wide at the fourth corner so I braked late and took the inside, but then he turned on me and we both spun (though I came out worse, with a mildly damaged suspension). I managed to salvage the 6th position and finish the race with the damaged handling, but the point of my rookie question is: What to do in this situations? How to decide when to overtake and how to do it properly? Exactly, what's iRacing overtaking ettiquete?

bummer! It sounds like you encountered a person who lacks the ability to understand race strategy.

Imari provided some excellent tactics for passing a lapped car that won't move over.

When I encounter a lapped car that is slower and alone (e.g. not battling within a few seconds of another car for position) and they won't move aside I will go on voicecomm and say (polite but firm), "Pilot XXXX you have a blue flag. Are you going to let me pass?" Most of the time it works and they let me pass safely. However, I rarely race the Mazda Cup anymore that is full of rookies.

Lol. That's genius! I can imagine a couple big yellow and black striped miatas.

Now im confused about Trading Paints. When you download all those skins, how does the game know that the user is using that template? Do you have to upload the paint with YOUR id# so everyone can see you? Or does the game automatically load your paint scheme on everyone elses screen once you enter? I have a bunch of paints and i just picked one i like and re-name it to my customer id, does that work or do i need to re-upload it with my number?

Looks like ill be doing the GT cup all week, i might try driving the Solstice since i havent driven it much. The VW would be fun to try if i had the cash, but at least this series will be more fun than the SRF (i hope).

The game will only recognize the paint schemes if they are under your iRacing ID number. So, if you want others to see your paint, you must upload the .tga file with your ID number before it. Ex, #####.tga

Finally! :D

And I had to work for that win which made it even more awesome, proof that not all rookies you come across are idiots. Not sure what to race in now though.

Has the track changeover always happened on Tuesdays? I thought it happened at 6pm est on Mondays.

It's Mondays 8PM EST

Well I placed third in a split of 13 people. And on a not so popular track its been 160 people racing so far and I worked my way into div 4..

So even if I placed 3rd in a race doesn't mean I'm the 3rd fastest in iRacing, so far I'm on 61st place..

And good luck beating me.. this isn't GT5 :scared:

Ego much? Or is this just a friendly rivalry? :dopey:

Not a big ego, just a friendly rivalry. Also I think he should get the sim and understand how things work before he go out and think his the world champion ;)

you really look forward for Daytona? Didn't you say: "the track does not have corners"

To me ovals are most fun and competitive. Road course are skills and concentration. Both are fantastic and I'd love having a mix of both in the NASCAR seasons. I loved week 13 at the glen

In GT5 where max down force is always the way to go, and you can't really gain anything by fine tune it, yes I still mean that.. Also Daytona "road" with a Daytona Prototype in a multiclass event is something else than Daytona "road" in a SuperGT500 car with 12-16 people on the track in GT5

And when I said it, I _played_ GT5, now I _race_ in iRacing!

So yes I really looking forward to a track I didn't like in GT5. Feel free to arrest me on other things as well, because I changed my mind about a lot since I downloaded this sim ;)

Fair enough, i didn't bring up GT5. I thought you dind't like the track becaus of the long "straights" and lack of corners.

Changing your mind is good thing :)
I remember me saying i don't play iracing, look to me now :ouch:

You don't need it to be named that way when you upload it. That's the point of having your account ID attached to your TP account. You can name it whatever you want, for your own purposes.

Really, I always had to name it. I don't think I have my iRacing account information on trading paints though, so that may be the reason.

You must do Kamui, because IIRC you need your iRacing account linked up to even create a TD account.

I gues we can all agree that iRacing rules :P

Got my first truck win today though :D Working late shifts and I had some extra time before work today so I thought Id just do a quick fixed race for fun and see what happened.
I was battling for 1st throughm the last half of the race. At lap 19 or 20 we had a catuian just as me and the 2nd car was running away from the pack. At the restart everything just resumed to the same pack racing with me in front. Then I made a mistake and fell back a few places, got someone to push me. And then just as I passed the leader someone crashed and there was a yellow flag for the rest of the race xD Man what a race xD
