You know what, I think I remember how people are getting such high gains. It seems like I remember in road that when you pass 3.00 it takes you passed 3.50 plus whatever you got that race. It's just been so long that I have actually gotten out of a class that I don't remember exactly how it works. I haven't raced since I think January. Iracing is a blast though, I can't believe I took such a big break from it.

bummer about the other pilot taking you out! kudos to you for keeping your cool!
What you need to do is learn from his mistakes.
there are a few things you can do in no particular order of importance (some veterans will hopefully chime in to help out with more suggestions):
1. Put the pilot on your "studied" list so you know when he is online.
2. Find the "danger paint" (a skin for his car to warn you) thread at Iracing - download the danger paints and follow the directions in the thread to mark the pilots car. This way you if you forget his name you will see his car marked in bold, bright colors warning you to stay clear.
3. protest his moves each and every time he takes you out. iRacing admits that they only penalize "intent" and not stupid moves, but an email from Nim that he is being protested might or might not cause him to driver better.
4. Increase your wreck avoidance game.
5. send him a friendly PM telling him to turn on his Spotter in-game so it can warn him if you are next to his car. And you can also ask him to turn on his voicecomms if you do no. 6 below.
6. If you have a microphone, turn on voicecomms and use it in-game. When you are passong him (or other cars) you can warn then with a quick comm such as, "Joe, I am on your right" or "Joe, passing inside on your left". make is brief and quick to give him position of your car relative to his car. of course, this will only work if he can voicecomms on to hear you.
etc
etc.
good luck! yeah, some pilots can be a PITA on the track.![]()

Anyways, it's weird. The last 2 big gains i had was +55 and +46. First one was with 1 off track incident (Skip at Atlanta). Didn't qualify and passed a ton of cars to finish second. The next one was from a TT with no incidents. Although i did have +40 something with 1 spin and 3 off tracks. It's very random. I can't explain it. I've also seen it from other drivers; they have a few incidents and still have +30 and up gains out of nowhere. It's like you're predisposed to have those points - they're just waiting in the wings lol. Maybe it's after a certain amount of finished races? I don't know.
Just need to gain .11 SR and i'll have my A license, feels like it took forever to get to this point
I tend to disagree with no.6. If I was actually racing closely with someone and they decide to tell me "Eric, I'm gonna pass on the inside," my thoughts will be "Uh, no." That's if we're closely matched. In-race communication really should be limited to apologies, "thanks yous", announcement that you're pitting (when near traffic) and telling people to go ahead and pass. A lot of times at Watkins Glen I've been racing down the backstraight towards the bus stop and the car behind is gaining on me, but not yet alongside. Instead of waiting until the last second to see who has the balls to take the corner, most times the car behind has told me "you've got it, go ahead."
superbike81You should have been there back when the fast track system wasn't around. You had to stay in each license class for an entire season. So it would have taken you at least a year to get to A.
I don't like when people tell me they are going to pass me on the left or that king of communication.
In the Grand AM series there is this guy in division 5 I think. He is fast, he is good but what a prim-a-donna.He comes up from behind me to lap me, I always have my f3 key on, mapped to my button box, I see him coming up and he says to me, "Darren, I'm going to pass you on your left", I just keep racing, there are about 3 cars in front of me and we are on the same lap.
I just keep hitting the apex the best I can and I am racing pretty decent. This prim-a-donna can't pass me, I don't try to block him or anything, he is the faster car. He needs to learn how to pass but he doesn't even try. So then he tells me what I am doing is very dangerous, I ignore him again. So then he tells me it's in the rules that I must pull over and let him by. I catch one of the cars ahead of me and pass him.
Last I heard was this prim-a-donna telling the guy I just passed was he was going to pass him on the left. Biggest problem in all of iRacing, there are a lot of fast racers that don't know how to pass. A few nights ago at Suzuka I battled a guy for 6 or 7 laps, we were both on the same lap. He could catch me on the esses but once I got through them I gained distance on him every lap.
Then after about the 6th lap he nails me from behind, sending me right threw the esses, I get a warning that I cut the course, this guy can't pass me without hitting me. This goes on for 3 or 4 more laps. Then he hits my rear quarter panel and spins me off the track, giving me a black flag for damage. I catch him half a lap away and give him a taste of his own medicine. He started swearing at me big time, I asked him how he liked a taste of his own medicine. We were both done for the night.
gfy!the way i see it, drivers can't communicate with each other during a real race, so why should i use a mic? If you can't properly overtake and make a few good judgement calls, you shouldn't be racing in my opinion.

I own a mic, but its never connected for this reason. I think a lot of people are more concerned with safety than racing, when the reality is racing is dangerous, its about making calculated risks to overtake drivers. I'd rather suprise the driver in front of me and catch him off guard than tell him that i'm going to be passing him and be a puss about it.
"If you no longer go for the gap, you are no longer a racing driver"
The way I see it is its your job if you have someone on your rear bummper to keep them gaps closed. If you cant keep it closed at the start of the corner and run a little wide and try to slam the door shut at the apex then its your fault. Some people being passed need to learn to give up the spot when your beat in the corner. If you run the corner a little wide (even if its just a few inches) you should always expect the guy behind you is gonna be there. The biggest problem is people dont know when they should give up the position.
...if a faster class comes up on me, I hold my line. If I'm being lapped by cars in the same class as me, I move over on the straights and let them go, most races aren't long enough to gain my lap back and I've got nothing to gain.
Lots of talk about overtaking here that are debated on what people think is correct. And none are fully correct. How do I know? I watched the Driving school videos and all the things are covered there.
I guess you guys are to busy racing without knowing how to do it correct, because if you watched those videos you wouldn't even talk about overtaking and corner rights. Spend a hour of your life to watch those videos and you have become a smarter racer without touching your wheel.
I have lot's of experience to drive among other drivers from GT5 in the ICGTC championship and tons of that experience have helped me out in iRacing. But when watching those videos I learned so much as iRacing isn't GT5.
Also I take it more as a racing career instead of a game, so I figured I watch those videos so I'm sure to not ruin your race (if you experts are on the same track)
But I have learned that not many people watch those videos and have their own rules on what's acceptable or not. No wonder incidents happens, self-proclaimed experts with their own rules meet to battle it out.. Doomed to end bad.
