Sorry for being a total noob here but how do I go about joining the nvidia cup or a similar series?

The first thing you should do without a doubt is go to the iracing homepage after you login, then go to the reference tab and watch the how to videos before you even try and run a practice lap. It will answer any questions you could ever have about iracing. i'm sure there are people who have played for years that still don't know all the things those videos show you.

If everyone would watch those videos then not only would everyone know how to navigate the game, it would make racing cleaner also, because people would know the rules and maybe see to use the relative button.

Click "Race Now," select nvidia Cup. :)

I recommend hitting "Test Car on Track" before even considering racing, though. Your SR is your primary goal in nvidia Cup. (the other lunatics will not give good racing, 9 times of 10.)

Or, if you're nervous, what bevo said. I've already done and forgotten those videos, so...

I'm watching them right now. That was the first order of business.:) Just another new game that'll take some getting used to the whole menu layout. Thanks for the quick answers guys:tup:

Those videos help alot. The interface on this game is different then others and theres a few nice things in the videos like the delta time thing that can be a really good tool, that you probably wouldn't know about unless you watched the videos.

Once you get the hang of the system it's really simple to navigate. i like how they do it. It's nice that almost everything is on one screen and you don't have to keep jumping form this screen to that screen to see what your looking for. Usually one or two clicks will get you where you want to be.

What you should be worried about, TJ, is what's beside the helmet, and the "Test Car on Track" feature, just after finishing those videos. :) Those will make you a clean racer, to jump up in SR.

If you're going to try something extreme, do it in practice. I learned that at 80 km/h, by getting airborne mid-way through a kart race (in real life). I didn't hit anything, so I was even able to continue (albeit with the rolled black (warning) flag,) but, if I had hit something, my race would've been over, and I wouldn't have gotten a second place at Mosport's kart track, in my first visit (something I'm proud of.)

iRacing's even harder, (more speed, with equivalent run-off room,) and, hitting things in iRacing means race over almost every time.

Anyone else here using the Nixim brake mod? Which way did you install it? Rubber pointing up or down?

My Nixim mod came into today, what a difference it makes, wow! I'm actually a bit slower than I was before, but I'm sure after a bit of practice I'll be able to get back to where I was before, maybe even faster :p.

:odd: Does your first post contradict your second post? What happened?

I don't see those 24 hour races actually lasting that long as yes I know we all love racing but thats ton of time to devote to racing in general at one time. We have the 2 hour races or so which I think are close to being at max honestly and driver swaps don't exactly sound like a great idea overall even though they might be fun races.

They can work pretty well! The rFactor guys still use it to this day very succesfully!
I can see at least 2 or 3 team forming up right here that can work very well for a 24hr race! we have people here from all time zones and we can divide the stints to suit everyone the best way possible!
A 24hr race can be divided into 2-3hr stints for a 3 driver team. That's 8, 3 hour stints or 12, 2 hour stints wich gives you either 3 or 4 stints per driver with one of them only doing 2 stints if going for 3hr ones or 4 stints doing 3hr ones. Very much doable with 6hrs or more to rest between stints!

I officially hate the Mustang at Oulton Park.. :p Thanks Jav.

Zolder/Oulton Park both seem tight... Lots of low-speed acceleration, very hard in Mustang... Mosport was a surprise in the Mustang. It didn't even come close to losing control.

I have a 12 hour race on rFactor next weekend as a matter of fact. 5 guys are going to drive two cars.

You know you can sign me up.

My subscription is going to expire soon. I don't find myself using iRacing enough to justify another year ATM.
Driver swaps even without day to night to day transitions would bring me back in a heart beat.
You guys have no idea how much fun these types of events can be. Even if you don't make it to the end, the entire experience is great fun.

I have no doubt that would be fun, but I have no one to take shifts with and 24 hours would be a long nail biting race for one person lol (or I would wreck after a couple hours and race would be over lol)

Yes, it's not like there's anyone on GTPlanet that would drive with you. :sly:

I'm pretty sure we can all find a team to join! Hell I'll even form a team, only requirement is not to quit if you crash and finish your stint so the next guy can take his turn at the wheel!

Just don't wreck the car... And...

I would, I would!

Gatrs, how do the driver changes happen on rF?

Are we talking about 24 hour race on rFactor or iracing?

Anyway, how does the driver changes work?

Jav I would be very interested

I think they'll be adding some MAJOR endurance events to that schedule though.

Driver swaps and time changes should be imminent by now, as well as the BMW's and RUF coming we could have an awesome endurance event or two in 2013.

Too lazy to dig up a link, but I'm almost positive an iRacing staff member said it will be two years before all three BMW's are done. Based on that, I suppose the first of them should roll out at some point in the second half of 2013.

An endurance race would be a good opportunity to collaborate with our Australian friends. Looking forward to it. Day to night transitions really are key to an immersive experience though.

That's why I asked about the rFactor idea. They do driver changes. 👍 It's best to compare, contrast, and maybe learn from... The guys from rFactor might be the basis of our new iRacing system. While I didn't enjoy the physics of rFactor, I will admit when rFactor has iRacing beat; rFactor's endurance races seem better.

I'm an definitely interested, I'm going to have to look around the internet and get a better idea of this.

P. S. I've always wanted to try rFactor

I asked gogatrs if he'd tell us, since he's the go-to guy for rFactor.

rFactor's good, but, the physics were weird, and my demo was spent up looking for bug fixes. The demo came with G27 wheel.

Your opinion on rFactor will be largely based on the mod you choose. I'd suggest Enduracers to start with.

For the beginning in iRacing I wouldn't be expecting 24 hour races. I am fully expecting to see at least one 8 hour race this year though. I would expect free "resets" but not instant like they are now, if someone wrecks the suspension their team should have to sit out 45 minutes or so for a repair but the car should be good as new when the time is complete. This will discourage people from pushing so hard because they won't have that instant fix but will ensure that everyone on the team gets to participate. In the world of endurance racing being 45 minutes behind the leader doesn't mean you will surely lose, a lot can happen in the remaining hours ;)

Yea i believe I still have a demo in my opened box, if not I have another g27 unopened :-)

I recommend trying the demo, although 60 minutes isn't long enough to get to really try it, and find why the physics felt so different.

Also, the track renderings and other things felt weird. With a longer period of time, I might adjust, but, 60 minutes was a bit short.

Superbike81: I never played with any mods.

rFactor and iRacing are very different. Everything from the business model to pick up races.
This is all I'll say on the rFactor vs. iRacing so as to not derail the thread.

rFactor is better for league racing. iRacing is better for pick up races.

rFactor is older. The graphics are significantly worse and it's relatively buggy. You can't join impromptu pick up races easily and there is no quality control for anything.
However, this is counteracted by the openness of the software. You can "mod" the game. You can create your own cars and tracks and many are available for download. Everything from Porsche 917s and Ferrari 512s to modern GP2 and Formula 1. Nearly anything you can imagine. There's even a Red Bull X1 floating around on the Internet. The tracks are good too. You can bring a Mazda 787B to the Targa Florio (72 km of pure Sicilian awesomeness, three times the length of the Nordschleife) or you can take a Ferrari 250 GTO to the Circuit of the Americas.
However, with all this content, you have to weed out a lot of the crap stuff. Like super grippy VW Golfs with what seems like 500 hp (you can make it 900 if you want).
EVERYTHING is customizable.
It can be a pain to get set up, but once you get past all that, it's pure driving pleasure.

Any questions, being them to the rFactor thread.

EDIT: if you haven't tried any mods, Mel, you're missing out. The content that comes with rFactor is not all that great.

Sorry, gatrs, we're just asking about the driver changes, not rFactor itself. Again, we're not saying it's not a good game, to most it probably is. I'm just asking, since rFactor is older, and more "mature" and well-versed, how do driver changes work?

I officially hate the Mustang at Oulton Park.. :p

Whaaaaaaattt???? I love that track, it forces people to exercise extreme caution when passing since it's so narrow, sure it's not healthy for SR but it's still a blast :)
And no you weren't the only one who wanted the mustang to stay, however there'll probably be a more even field in grand am instead of 4 mustangs max

You see? Just like that we have a team of 3 drivers ready to go if we where to race tomorrow! I'm sure there's at least enough guys for 4 teams here in this thread!

Oh I really like the track, I just don't like the Mustang on it.
