The fixed setup for the MX5 needs to be bulletproof and ultimately very forgiving. It's the basis on which road rookies will judge the service, and if it's a twitchy nightmare to them then it's not going to do it's job.
Like I mentioned in my previous post, I judged iRacing as a whole based on a heck of a lot more than just the MX-5. But then, I came to iRacing as an oval guy and didn't really care about the road side. I was in the position of judging the service on the basis of the rookie street stock racing experience, which as you may know, is nightmarish at best. If I could enjoy iRacing on that basis, then the so-called flaws in the MX-5, which every rookie was equally burdened with, hardly merited even a raised eyebrow from me.

Are newcomers to iRacing really scrutinizing the MX-5 to such an "expert" degree that the experience I had (and enjoyed once I gave the road side a try) prior to this new build, would make them flee in disgust? That's bewildering to me, to be honest.

My first impression of the mx5 with NTMv5 at Suzuka was that it was really good so I was surprised to read the comments here. I took it out to Limerock tonight to test it again and I thought was wow, everyone was right. Then I remembered that I changed some of the ffb settings. I turned the ffb and min force settings down a little and the car was back to being a pleasure to drive. For those of you having issues, check the ffb settings and see if that makes a difference.

what's your guys' opinion on the Dallara I'm thinking about getting it or the jetta

Without the NTMv5, the Indy car is only good for ovals, (and it's damn good). They have also updated the external sounds so it doesn't sound like an empty fly noise. It sounds pretty close to the real deal now. The jetta drives like a FWD should (I drove pre NTMv5). LIFT OFF OVERSTEER.... that's how you drive it. It's annoying.

Also, what do you guys think about my first iRacing montage?

Would you mind posting your FFB settings, etc? :)

I downloaded both Bathurst and V8SC, and that track is relentless for sure.

It's the only track where I have had FFB be weird (it doesn't really have any once sim starts or anytime in pit lane really) and seems to fight it off and on through the track but never really that heavy feeling I get from oval side at all. It could be the car using the baseline setup or other things, anyone else have that issue.

Bathurst and the V8 is so much fun! Although in races it can become very messy. Well happy with 2.08.4xx lap I did.

The Riley MkxX Daytona Prototype is awesome around there too.

And all the GT cars :)

Just arrived back from India late last night. Downloading the update right now. Trying to decide if I want to purchase New Jersey. Any reason as to why it has been downgraded to a Tech Track only? Also, does anybody have a good explanation of this "dynamic weather" that has been mentioned in the iRacing forums? There was a lot of uncertainty about what it actually is.

There is dynamic weather which means conditions can change during a race, things like wind speed and direction, temperature, and so forth. I'm pretty sure that was already available for hosted sessions.

What they added was Realistic Weather, and they are using it for official sessions. Realistic weather is basically just a table of sampled weather conditions, taken at various times at each track in the real world. The week's weather for each track is determined by choosing a random entry from the table. So while the table entries are selected randomly each week, the data in each table matches real-world weather data for that location.

That's how I understand it.

Just did a Indycar Fixed race at Homestead.

Finished 9th, missed 8th by .003!

Anyways, I don't know how the weather works either. I think it stays the same for qualifying and the race. (At least it did for me just now)

May change throughout the week, or stay the same for each week with small changes in session.

The weather will be different each week, but will not change during the week. Or at least that's how I understood it. So instead of the set weather conditions that we had for every track, now each track will have different conditions every week.

So say week 1 is Sebring, it might be overcast and 11 degrees, while week 2 Mosport may be sunny and 25 degrees, with a 10mph easterly wind.

Thanks guys. Makes a lot more sense now.

I just purchased the Fusion Gen 6, Homestead, and Bathurst. All feel like good purchases at the moment!

Ive had FFB issues as well. It goes away and comes back all of the sudden on oval races

Mine is pretty much so far only at Bathurst, I haven't tried other cars there but V8SC did fine at Charlotte (I was curious just to see how they handled on Oval's for random thoughts which surprised me at how stable they actually were).

When I load the sim for V8SC at Bathurst, I have FFB until the actually track screen shows up (with options, etc). It then has NONE, so I do the normal thing of pull out the USB on the computer and it resets itself with same issue. So I get in the car, same deal then as I do pick up speed I do gain FFB but it's no where near as normal or strong as I've had in the other cars to where it's a heavy feeling. There is some there but it's like it just can't figure out what is going on from the track side more than the car itself.

BUT overall, I gained a ton of respect for the drivers, that track never lets up at all but mistakes are not an option or it pays.

So I finally decided to try iRacing, and very impressed indeed. The iRacing members forum is a work of art, so much detail from top to bottom. The only issue I've got though, I might have to upgrade to a new computer to run iRacing. Once I do get a new one, I'll be good to go.

Just had a really good first race of the season. Started 3rd. Guy in second spun in turn one on lap 2. Then I spent 3/4 of the race with a time battle against the driver in 1st. Our times were really really close. With 3 laps to go, he dropped a wheel while overtaking a Ford GT and I pounced. Opened a 1.5 second gap and finished that way. I can now boast that I am the points leader! For now... lol

Well done nice win, nothing better then a good clean scrap with an equal driver and to come out on top. :)

I sent an email to iRacing inquiring about a previous promotion they were running and asked if they would be running anything again soon. The person told me that this is their current promotion (which conveniently ends Nov. 1st), and that they don't announce promotions ahead of time, which makes sense.

It's a 50% off of any new membership. The membership I'd been previously interested in included the Williams car, Silverstone, and Zandvoort. I'm just curious to know whether I should go for this 50% off for a 2-year deal, or whether it's better to wait for the next promotion and try to get some free cars and tracks.

I guess what I'd really like to know is once you are a member, do they run promotions for members on unowned cars and tracks? The membership promotion is obviously a great deal, and if I can eventually get some deals on other content I think it would be worth it.

Thoughts?

They normally don't run memberships on cars/tracks for current members, only new ones to get them to sign up. I joined when they offered the truck/Michigan deal for a race. It was like $30 bucks for that and 3 months of services with the current free stuff it already had.

One thing I have found is better for me is to go ahead and have a membership so I'm not worrying or forgetting that I might need to renew sometimes but I can add tracks and cars as I either gain license or want to drive not maybe stuck with a car I completely hate or tracks I don't like.

Thanks for the reply. As a member, I guess you'd say that this deal a pretty good one to get started with then, considering that I won't get promotions for the rest of the content?

Correct. The initial deal is really good but, you won't get any free deals from iRacing after that. One thing that you can do though, run 8 weeks out of the 12 in 2 series and you get $10 in iRacing credits. That is $40 dollars a year that you can use on cars, tracks, or hosted sessions.

What are the usual running times for events like those? That sounds like a really good deal actually just for enjoying the game anyway.

Occasionally they run a buy a $75 in credits receive $100 and buy $20 receive $25 (at once) I think twice a year, and of course the black friday 50% membership deal.
But between those two new membership deals the $75 Zandvoort one saves you about $65-70 (about $40 for cars & track plus about $25 for membership) and the 50% 2 yr one saves $100 but you could do the $75 zandvoort deal and spend $50 at black friday every year which would equal your 50% 2 year deal plus you'd get $40 in tracks for only $25. (The only reason I know this is I did it with $75 daytona deal). Good luck

You just have to run official races which are anywhere from every hour to 2 hours for most series. It really isn't that hard if you race a good bit, I easily race close to 40 races a week sometimes it just depends but all you have to do is race 1 race per week basically for 8 weeks.
