Didn't they say something about taking a huge FPS hit with the ring about a year ago so they decided to hesitate with it?

Doubt it, considering they laser scan all their tracks and looking at the old Monza oval it has ever weed known to man probably sprouting out of the old surface.

Better get pulling them then :sly:

If it meant I got to drive on the track in a cool car at the expense of doing...well then I'll go get my gloves.

Oh and free drinks of all kinds too.

One of my favorite features in iRacing: being able to watch replays of other drivers after the race. I've got quite a few fast laps recorded for studying which has improved my lap times quite a lot. Thought I was doing well to break into the 1:41's at Laguna in the MX-5. Get in the room and the guy on pole set a 1:40:300 (iirc). 🤬 Nice to see what he's doing differently though after watching the replays.

Look into running Ispeed on your computer as well.

http://www.nessoft.com/ispeed/

You can analyze laps from you and compare with another driver's laps.

Very nice program, free to use the lap analyzer. It has a dash program that runs, but if you don't donate it only runs for 5 minutes or so.

Shaved many seconds off my times using that program.

It runs fine without donating. But I will get around to donating. It is a very good program.

How do you view another driver's laps on iSpeed? Do they have to upload them somewhere?

Edit: nevermind, I see. Thanks, looks like I'm going to be busy for a while. :)

I'll have to check that out myself.. Thanks!

I really wish I had a second monitor for iSpeed, because I have an iPhone but can never use the app long enough on it to see if it's worth it. I think it's also a $15 min donation to get the license key as well.

Is that because of a time limit for no license?

Yeah precisely. I set it up, load up the track and by the time I have started a hotlap it's already turned off. Stating I need the license to continue using it.

All the other stuff with iSpeed is nice, and no doubt helpful to some, but I just want to be able to see the window and not use the Analyzer. Would help infinitely with fuel numbers and such. Maybe it's just a huge first world problem for me but it annoys me. Anyway got that off my chest.

I thought of a new game to play at lime rock, it's similar to the shoot the arrow straight up and see who runs like in the movie "Grown ups", except you use the launch glitch at the end of pit road and cram a bunch of cars in the area and see who backs out and the first person to back out has to launch next or the first person to get hit  sorry, I was really bored sitting in a practice session after everyone left:mischievous:

Really? I've been running it for ages and it never stops because I didn't have a license. I've turned the voice off and just run it in the background. It records my laps then I can compare my best laps to others who have uploaded laps. Works very well.

edit: ok I misread something. What is this dash program you speak of?

If you choose to stream iSpeed to a different computer or phone using your LAN, there's a 5 minute restriction. If you don't stream it (like in your case) you can run it indefinitely without issues.

Whats the launch glitch?
at LRP if you are in pit stall #1 go forward a few feet and hang a right and drive to the edge and go so slow you barely scoot yourself off the edge maybe add a little right turn to it and just as the car starts to teeter just barely let it over the edge and if you did it right you can get around three or four story launches straight up (I've only done it in a legend)

Might have to YouTube that one. :sly:

it's rendering now, I don't know if I'll fall asleep before it's done though :p

Since I'm still waiting for Christmas to arrive so I can finally get started on GT6, I decided a few days ago to try out a three month membership. Really glad I did, it's awesome. :D

My main concern is the cost of individual tracks and cars. For instance, entering every event in the Skip Barber series would cost nearly $130, and that's just scratching the surface. I can see why people say iRacing is expensive.

I've also noticed that Neil Williams signed up recently, I presume he's the same guy who made it to GT Academy Race Camp this year.

I think I've spent a total of around 1200-1500 Euro on iRacing so far, have everything except for Auto-Club Speedway. It may seem overwhelming the amount of content there is and the cost of it but for the most part you won't need it.

I don't need 90% of the content I have, my tip is to just keep practicing and racing in the MX-5 or Street Stock until your able to participate in the Skippies, then just buy the car (and two tracks if interested in 3 item multi-purchase discount) and test it out. Then re-check the schedule and buy what you need when you can. Don't buy too much at once as you won't use it immediately and you may lose interest before you can use them items.

But for now just keep plodding along in the MX-5 and see how much you still enjoy it in 3 months and than make a choice, I didn't wait three months, but fortunately I still enjoy iRacing. Oh and I'm quite heavily invested in it now anyway

Ninja Edit: TL;DR Make your purchases for the long run, but don't let the long run make your purchases, or in other words, if and when you do buy content look at what's most used and will be of best value, and don't buy all tracks in a season at once!

Welcome!

It does seem quite expensive at first, but if you play it smart it can be very reasonable. For the rookie series you won't need any new content, and with the cars you have you can do Grand touring cup when it races on free tracks. For the Skippy, I think they use 3(?) free tracks each season.

A good way to go is either the 3 items or 5 items discount. 5 items should (depending on the schedule) put you in the position to be able to do 8 weeks in the Skippy, which will give you $4 in iRacing credits. If you're lucky you may even be able to do 8 in the SRF, depending on how similar the schedules are. iRacing often does deals for existing members, for instance on Black Friday it was 50% off a 1 year membership. That's cheaper than buying a new game for your Ps3.

It's groups of 3 items (10% discount) and 6 items (20% discount). If you bought everything to run Skippy then that would be carried over to any series you wanted to run and you'd have a majority of the tracks for any other series most likely. so you don't spend that $130 or whatever it was, every time you want to move up.

I originally considered doing the Mustang Challenge, since I already have the car and four of the twelve tracks. If I were to buy four of the other tracks, I could compete in eight of the twelve events for $54.

However, the season concludes at the end of January. I've figured out that I should be able to race in a mixture of Class D events up to the end of the season without buying anything. If I'm lucky, I could get promoted to Class C without having to spend a single cent. (For what it's worth, I'm still a rookie but rookie promotions are tomorrow.)

Looks like I picked a good time to sign up :)

Mustang challenge is a lot of fun. I recommend it for all skill levels

If any of you guys are running Trucks fixed at Indy this week , what are your times? I finally got some practice time available and I got a 53.6 (on my 8th lap at Indy on iRacing. Never used it until this session.)
