That's true, but you've got to admit: the game asks you at every tiny little option whether you really want to do it or not. Only when you go to the menu in a race and accidently choose to restart, the game doesn't ask. That can really ruin your 24h A-Spec experience when you had half an hour left and just wanted to visit the restrooms one last time before the finish.
ouch!
to be honest, though, i'm not bothered by selecting "ok" to confirm something.
it takes what? 2 seconds if you're slow about it?
people are getting hung up on the smallest of things about this game.
"menus are ugly/clunky/there's a lot etc etc"
it's a menu.
it's a freakin' menu.
"there's not enough A-Spec events."
guess what? for smurfs and giggles, i just got in a recently purchased used Ford GT LM Race Car, went into Practice, selected La Sarthe, One Make Race, set it to 60 laps, and... lo-and-behold... i had a brand new endurance event to race! 500 Miles at La Sarthe.
"shadows are wonky!"
yeah. driving's near perfect.
"wtf is up with standard cars?!"
it took 6 months of man hours per premium car to make. 200 of those, that's 100 years worth of manpower to create. i'll take a few standard cars that i barely notice the difference in at 95mph.
"what's up with that framerate, anyway?"
like that matters a whole helluva lot. framerate is overrated and the driving is near perfect.
"it's not true 1080p!!!"
so it's not full HD. still looks good on my set.
"the sound sucks."
sounds great on my system.
and the only car in the game i can compare to in real life is the 2000 PT Cruiser because the ol' lady has one. and it sounds identical. i don't have a bunch of Corvettes or Ferraris or Lamborghinis or Group C race cars sitting in my driveway to compare to. i got a Durango, a Pathfinder, a Jeep, and a PT Cruiser GT.
"too many Skylines!!! / too many Japanese cars!!!"
i've yet to run out of variety of different cars to play with.
and guess what. i have 5 Ford GTs in my garage. and two Corvettes. and 3 Camaros.
i just don't get what the problem is.
the game is monstrous in terms of content. it's got a built in social network, it's got a you-race-the-dang-car mode, it's got a you-manage-a-racing-team mode (that you can completely ignore if you don't like. just don't click that picture), there's GT TV, a course editor thingamabob, a billion cars, insanely good driving physics, an easily customizable online mode (provided you aren't scared of a couple menus), some very excellent lighting and weather effects, what could have been a very nice marketplace (until the whole birthday glitch came about, then got further ruined by the save back-up which made the marketplace a joke), an illustrated history of some of the biggest names in the Automotive industry, a robust Photo mode, and a bunch of other things i'm leaving out.
GT5 has flaws like every game has.
but Polyphony Digital has shown that they're not above fixing those things (whether we really need it or just think we do).
it's really simple in the end.
if you're into the auto racing lifestyle, GT5 is for you.
if you're not really into the auto racing lifestyle, you should probably go elsewhere.
