Ah...sorry i misunderstood. :sly: Maybe im just very stubborn about getting all golds that I really pushed myself to get them. The only golds left for me are the S-Class races. My hands are very sore BTW. 🤬 S-License test!!!

No worries. I was determined to get all golds in the game but I just cannot see a way to get it with the GTA Shifter...maybe I just don't have the skill levels for it. In fairness, my frustration last night was aided by 3 glasses of wine so maybe I will have more luck without...though I am usually much better at things like that when I am not sober lol (I still remember playing Tekken at 3am after a heavy night out (showing my age there lol) and I was miles better than when I played sober!)

:bowdown:Drunken Master!

lmao...yeah, I kinda was back then. Fruit machines in the pub were where I really excelled...I once got £86 out of a pub fruit machine in one evening in a pub, for an outlay of £20. It had one of those ones where you had to press the button at the right moment to keep the thing climbing to the jackpot...for some reason, when drunk, I could hit it at the right moment to keep it climbing....and then get a repeat jackpot on the next go. Think I got about 5 or 6 jackpots that evening...fun times!

Profiting by getting drunk?! :boggled: L:lol:L :D

It appears my "woe is me" posts were a bit premature! Had a bit of a practice, including using l2 and r2 for brake/accelerate (couldn't get on with that), and have managed to get 3rd place 1.2 seconds behind first. The solution was pretty simple: by applying the principle of feathering using the x and o buttons. Admittedly not easy, rather than press and hold for braking, instead repeatedly press the brake button. This stops the kart better and doesn't lock the brakes and, by doing the same with accelerate while in the corner allows it to turn much tighter. It is very much juggling between doing this and applying full throttle but I am, finally, getting there!

If I ever get the choice between destroying all the karts in the world and world peace I would start with the 125ccs

First race, win after trying 50000 times
Second race, the AI clips me and the rest of the championship is ruined

They really need to include a pillow with a picture of AI driver with this game so we can abuse it everytime those bastards think they can just go through objects

Good observation. Yes that's what I do when turning the karts. Only throttle hard when in straights.

It's like old school video games. You touch the A.I. you're dead! :scared:

I really have no idea how people can do 8 perfect laps for this race but I'm not one of them. I am giving up having miraculously gained silver but that's it for me. I have had enough of the ai either blocking or spinning me, ability to run flat out through the final corner when I have to lift or spin and that the slightest mistake means you lose. I don' mind being punished for my mistakes or even having to do near perfectlaps but, in that POS on that track for that many laps, no way. As I've said before, props to those who managed it...you are clearly so much better than I ever will be at this game

I mean, patience - especially in GT6 - will not help you to win races. Unfortunately, they are still using rolling starts with 10-20+ seconds between 16th and first. If you start in 16th, you can't afford to be patient.
I found that with the shifters on gt stadium, patience is exactly what got the gold for me. You have to drive smooth as silk, stay off the gogo juice till FULLY apexed and brake early. If you try to boot it, you will spin/slide every time. I got a lot of silvers before the gold by doing this, and even more re-starts, but eventually you will win. I usually didn't even finish the race if I tried to push it hard, which I might add is my usual driving style. By being patient, I don't mean slow, just, and only just under slide out pace. Malicious AI don't help any either. They are downright aggressive in this race. It's a very fine line. Decreasing gear ratio back to 140 k's helps a lot too.

Try fixating on the track. Ignore your race position and lap. I found if I realised I was in with a chance of winning I tried too hard and screwed it up. I basically just caught and overtook everything in front of me until it said "finished" at which point I'd failed, except once!

I managed to get silver several times on shifter kart GT Arena. my last kart race to gold. I hate not being able to do something, So I cant give up. Thanks to all of you thats given advice, its helped.

Bottom line is this. The game is programmed to let us always win. We just have to race and keep up to the lead A.I. until the game gives us the opportunity to overtake it in the last 2 laps. Happens in all races.

Hmmm....I'd love to be in with a chance of winning on that track! I just screw it up whether I'm in second or 16th. I find it just too difficult to keep at a good speed while trying to repeatedly press buttons at each corner to slow the thing down or get it going out of the corners. One day I may attempt it again but, by the time I feel like trying it again, it will probably be just as GT7 is released...and the more nightmarish things that they will add in that!

And I can't tell you how many times I have made a mistake, been miles behind and still won (actually happened at Brands Hatch with the Shifter, got spun by AI on first lap, was 2 seconds behind 16th place and still won) and redid the race so that I could win properly but...even with that, this event is, well, crap. The rubber banding is the only reason I can even get to a second behind the leader at the finish. And keeping up with the ai is hard enough most of the time, but to do that for 8 perfect laps with this kart is just beyond my skill levels, clearly.....but, it's fine, there's always something in a game that will prove impossible for me (even with practice) , in GT5 it was the AMG events, a 3rd of the licence tests, the Top Gear Elise event, and a few others!

Does seem like in Karting at least, this seems to be the case. If you make a big mistake and fall back a fair way mid way through the race, it's often too late to claw back, but otherwise if you have a pretty flawless race, usually the last two laps as you rightly mentioned, you can overtake the top two position holders. In other words, in kart races, patience really is a virtue.

I've only done the first lot of Karts as I am not sure I have the patience for them at moment. I remember hating them with a vengeance in GT5 but, once I adapted my driving style to them, I found them quite enjoyable (except for being punished for a tiny mistake and losing the race!!). Incidentally, the Autumn Ring Mini race on the hardest level of the karts in GT5 was one I could never win despite lots of attempts, silver was the best I could do. The other day, when I was a bit bored with GT6 (I know that's sacrilege to say but I was), I went back to GT5, went to that dreaded and impossible Kart race and.....won it at the first attempt!! It would appear that playing GT6 makes you better at GT5!!!

That indeed is good news that racing GT6 makes you better at GT5. I have kept up my login bonus with GT5. I will revert to 2.11 once the servers go down. I am just about to start S. I gave up on the karts after the first set. Those little small tracks just frustrate me to no end. I play to relax, not get worked into a frenzy. To 🤬 with the karts, drifting and dirt races. Maybe after some hybrids I will feel better and go back and try those races again.

I ran these again last night and especially the Shifter on GT Arena as it's this one that folks seem to be having the biggest issue with and out of 5 races I lost 3 of them through using different techniques and settings. Here's what I found.

1) Adding 7kg at pos 50 really did help to stabilise the kart
2) Re-setting the transmission to a top speed of 96?mph (90 something anyway) helped but setting it at the lowest speed was just uncontrollable.
3) Driving to win will only cause you to lose!
4) The ONLY time I used full throttle was for about 2 seconds on the start/finish straight and absolutely not on the sweeping curve into the start/finish straight.
5) Brake really early

The only times I won was when I wasn't really trying to win ( I realise how dumb that sounds ) but just trying to get around the course without clipping curbs or other AI and, picking the correct line to hit apex's, turning points and braking points.

I'm pretty much in agreement with @ULTRAVIOLENZZ when he says "drive carefully". If you get into a frustrated mood or the red mist starts to descend....back away and leave it for another day :)

BTW: the other two races in the set of 3 for the shifters don't require any tinkering with the karts, stock settings seem to work just fine.

I fully understand. After breaking 2 DS3s, half a bottle of Scotch and numerous cigarettes I finally won with 8kgs added to front. Way too frustrating just to win an Enzo Ferrari.
