Kart Racing - Most frustrating races in GT6?

Hmmm...well, that was interesting. Despite my protestations to the contrary, this afternoon I decided I would not be beaten by Kaz and his evil, twisted mind!! So, I went back to this event but, alas, could not beat it....but found that my usual driving style was able to be implemented with more ballast (namely, brake late, turn and hope) and that I could accelerate earlier due to that.

So, after I had eaten something and just about got my nerves stable again, off I went again into the world of pain! It didn't start well as I rattled off a series of second places (though good for the credit balance) and the closest to first I got was still 0.7 seconds away....a lifetime. But, just when I thought about giving up yet again, I almost managed it crossing the line 0.255 seconds behind. Suddenly, I had confidence and pressed on, only to be back to 0.7 seconds behind again (partly my own fault as I tried ramming first place but that just slowed me down). I adjusted the balance and top speed, settled on an aggressive strategy (namely using the other Karts as brakes!) and.....overtook the leader into turn 1 of the final lap to go on and win by 0.7 seconds (how's that for irony?!!). I really cannot believe that this nightmare is finally over.....or is it?

Having finally mastered this, I am left looking at the championship trophy picture next to the races and am not liking the number 12 underneath it...so, I get to do it all again...however, if I can win the first 2 races, then I don't have to win the final one to get the championship..but that's for another day. Oh, and to show how sick and twisted this game is, thanks to my many practices GT Arena is now listed as my favourite track !!! Noooooooooooooo....I have to do something about that!

For those still struggling, I used the following settings:

Ballast: 13KG at +50
Top speed: 86MPH
Controller sensitivity: 3

Hope that helps. Feel free to contact me for any advice now that I am a master at this race!! Oh, and practice does not, as the saying goes, make perfect.....perseverance, compulsion and aggression makes winning! Thanks to all thoise who have tried to keep me motivated during my trying times...much appreciated

:( Beautiful. Congrats!

@Argon and Ultra: Thanks for the congrats. Have never been so frustrated with something in my life so it feels great to finally achieve it.

@hall90 and devildog: Well, we can't all be driving gods like you 2 apparently are. Not everyone can just pick any vehicle and be brilliant with it first time, some people need practice and/or need to change settings to get it right. But thank you for belittling those who have been struggling, much appreciated :(

I am not a driving god But I will try to be one and if it wasn't for my G27 I will be struggling with they kart races. But it all comes down to practise and more practise.

Yeah, that's fair enough and apologies if I came over a bit strong...it's just that I read so many threads on this forum from people struggling/looking for advice and then have people come on and post that it was easy, that it can be done stock etc etc and it just gets so annoying. It was wrong of me to lump you in with devilddog though.....at least you were just pointing out you did them with stock, he was just being what is referred to as an "obnoxious little s***" by taking the p**s out of anyone who didn't do the races in stock form....arrogant people is my number one pet hate in life.

Hey nursemorph it is all good 👍

Kart racing is some of the best racing in GT6. In any other type of racing in the game the field of cars is widely spread out, but in kart racing the pack of cars actually stay together and race each other.

For those having trouble (a few posts mentioned this) with the Super license events,

The car Pescarolo Judd '05
(Dante's Judd tune)

At 650 I used those stats and 100kg ballast @ -4
No turbo
Power limit at 68.5%
650pp
650hp
1,000kg
50/50 ratio ^^

At 750pp I used Dantes stats maxed out with turbo 3 power 100%

Oh, and aero downforce for both I used 550/750, no need for more.

The golden key, is to make it all the way through 1/2 the race, and pit before lap 6, on a 10 lap, 11,on 20, ect.
Do not use rain or intermediate tires, use race hard on all races , and all pit stops.
On the Nurburgring 3 lap race, make it 2 laps before pitting, on clean straights, coast a lot, conserve gas, but it's not really too hard. I pitted after 2nd lap and was JUST hitting the red on the meter. You do that and you'll get 1st by a landslide.

On the 'normal car' races, I just used a fully loaded and maxed out Jaguar XKR-S '11
Tha car handles like a race car fully maxed out.

Now, the carts.
I absolutely suck at carts.
I did the first ones, I need to do the 125's and the intA ones.
I'm going to relook over this thread for ballast secrets, and give them a shot.

Wish me luck ><

@demonchilde BTW is this the 24 Minutes in Nurburgring? I used the Raybrig HSV-010 (premium) on that race no turbo just stage 3 engine, and intermediate tires. 1 pit. Easy win.

I actually use the Silverstone 10-lap challenge for money grinding now.
With login bonus it's like 480k per race ^^
Using the Judd with the 650 build mentioned above, pitting 1 time at the beginning of lap 6 every time, I win by like almost 1/2 the coarse between me and the 2nd place car.
EASY MONEY, lol.

Gotta try this!

I love the Karting in GT but this Shifter in GT Arena is f'n killin' me... 14th is my best finish and I've tried every possible ballast weight and position, and differing trans settings to no avail... driving this overpowered set of slicks slow enough to turn, as not to light up the fronts, without spinning on exit, lighting up the rears, leaves me puttering around in DFL just barely able to keep the pack in sight... do we not have a prayer vigil thread for GT Arena sufferers???

Yeah, a prayer thread would be good...get all the other GTP members to pray for our next race.

As for the track, yeah, it is a pain in the butt and it is tough to keep control. I gave up twice and decided I would never manage it but then I just kept going at it. The most important thing, learnt from this thread is not to aim for winning...just aim to get the next corner right and the next one and so on....if you don't win, don't fret and keep at it. I also found that if I tried for more than 3 attempts at once, then I would get worse as would get frustrated...so, I would do 3 attempts and then either have a break or do some other races and then come back to it.

Advice from what I did to beat it:

The settings that I posted a few posts up (ballast 13KG +50, top speed 86mph, controller sensitivity 3) allows you to brake normally (and late if that's the way you drive) without locking the front wheels and allows you to accelerate earlier.

Once you pass the corner apex, rather than just press accelerate and spin, try tapping the accelerator....what this does is keep the momentum, stops the wheels spinning and also helps turn the kart quicker into the straight line so you can accelerate.

If you use the X and O buttons, then try changing them to L2 and R2 to give you better throttle control.

Ultimately, it is about being smooth, don't panic, be patient with feeding the power on. Hope some of that helps

If you want, I could export and upload my replay as a RAR file to a file sharing site so you can watch it. I am sure there videos from really good racers out there but mine would show it from point view of an average kart driver using a PS3 and the x and o buttons. Send me apm reply if you want me that

Just switched to L2/R2 and that helps, from what I can gather from yours and other posts in this thread, is to keep at it and eventually I'll luck up into gold when I least expect it!!! Which has happened on numerous occasions in this game...

Yeah, sometimes it just suddenly happens and you will nearly collapse from the shock of it. Good luck and if you want that replay just ask

This has been my experience too. The shifter kart championship is probably the best racing to be had in career mode, standing starts and evenly matched machines (with a somewhat limited top speed) make for competition that you can't find elsewhere in career mode. I had no problem beating them but keep going back for more, which I haven't done with any of the other races.

(I'm not saying that to brag or anything, I don't know why some struggle and some don't. I'm just sharing my experience and no offense is meant towards anyone.)
