The only thing I'd ask of Kaz is a little more transparency. That being said, all the speculation and guessing kinda adds to the excitement.

Much of the anger really needs to be directed at his staff, however. If you check game credits, you will see that Yamauchi has a very minor role (if at all) on game creation except probably (as a game producer) directing human resources, deciding if he likes a feature (when he has time to actually play the game) or not and being the public "face" for his company Polyphony Digital.

Add that the the Japanese never tell their superiors "on their face" when there is a problem or something wrong, or that as game developers they tend detaching themselves from the external world, and you might understand that the problem might be deeper than it seems.

Before you start ranting about people should lose their jobs, maybe you should know what you're talking about. What do you know about producing a game? What do you know about Kazunori's strengths and weaknesses as a producer? What do you know about the development of GT5? What do you know about the future of the franschise?

Clearly, expressing an opinion without having the knowledge is just ignorant.
Why don't you start demanding that Obama should be fired from his post as President of the United states because the world still doesn't have a cure for cancer? It must be his fault...

How do you come up with that analogy? I mean if Barrack Obama was a great medical scientist researching the cure for cancers then that'd make sense. Being President has nothing to do with Cancer cures really, Kaz is the Producer so he has a direct role in the game. I don't agree with the OP because you can't base one bad game on a career of 4-6 good/great games before it.

You're logic isn't all that much better than the OP at the moment, to be honest you just seem to be mad that a game you like (possibly to a dogmatic level) is being attacked. I like the game myself, but these people come and go, just let it be gone. At the end of the day their is criticism and then their is crazy/irrational.

Sorry to say, but it's ironic that you talk about ignorance of the OP and yet your post thus far have done little justice and seem more like emotional backlash than intellectual argument.

Wow a good post from one of the newer users, not to say that all new users are bad.

Mmmkay, just one short reply.

Kaz has made the most independently unique style of game on the PS3 market!

He has ignored games such as need for speed, shift, COD, GRID, TDU and F1, to keep GT's pure 'free' feel.

There's no waiting in lobby screens, no ridiculous cinematic in menus, and no single progression path in the game.

Good luck surviving here!
Unique isn't always good I'd say, and to be fair, not much has changed in Gran Turismo since 1998, has it? Not as much as you'd expect anyway.

Sadly this is too true, also a rare time where I agree with Strittan

I would judge a producer on how long Im playing their game

still playing!

No the way he went about it could get him banned if he had left it as stating an opinion it wouldnt be a problem

Does the title of this thread not read: "Kaz should be fired as producer"?

I see nothing in either the title or the OP that suggests anything but opinion.

Not so much of an opinion from the OP as it is a lack of clarification. He doesn't show why Kaz should be sacked. Saying this game is proof of that is ridiculous, loads of people still play it daily.

The amount of people still playing is irrelevant to the foundation (no matter how ill-intended it may be) of this thread. I still play GT5 on and off again and I don't exactly disagree with someone new heading future GT titles. As it stands now the game, and everything about the game is either archaic or cumbersome, let alone the poorly thought out or poorly executed decisions.

Wow, good job. I can reduce it even further: Writing in forum get you banned?

Well, the answer is yes. It depends on what you write and what your intention is. Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean that you can share it in any way you like. Opening a thread saying "Kaz should be fired" is hardly a good way.

To you, maybe. He's said nary a thing that violates the AUP in any way, shape, or form. If he thinks Kazunori needs to be relieved of his position heading Gran Turismo - what's it to you? Don't start waving hazard flags simply because someone dared to say someone fresh should be brought into the foray.

Since "opinions" are being thrown around, here's mine:

I love this immensely flawed game to death. And I truly believe it's still the best racer out there. (consoles of course)

You didnt see his other thread then making accusations he couldnt back up isnt posting false information without proof violate the AUP

anyway im not going to continue to discuss if he violates the AUP that is up to the modetators to decide

The analogy is this:
Barrack Obama is not a medical scientist, but USA is the country where most medical science is produced. Of course he doesn't produce the science himself, but Kazunori Yamauchi doesn't do the programming himself either.

That being said, I have no problem if someone wants to critizise the game, but do it for the right reasons and in a correct manner. What the OP is doing is that he critizises someone working with the game, without having any insight in how they work at PD, how the process were, what problems they had to solve etc. Not knowing that, and instantly deciding that it's all one man's fault is ignorant. And it's rude.

And enjoy it very much I might add :D

...and that's your opinion at the end. 👍

I think Kaz is doing fine to be honest, I still find the game outstanding fun and that's what matters, as a game producer Kaz is doing his job if there are loads of people out there having fun with it.

I firmly believe there are more people (who still play GT5) that find it more fun than cumbersome.

If you had been his boss, or a member of the board, and had recieved monthly reports on the progress of the development, and you know for sure what has been done and what has not been done, THEN you can have an opinion about the job.

If all you got is the finished product, then you can have an opinion about the product, but you don't know **** about the job.

People who don't like GT5's direction are free to go away and play other games.

There are dozens of other racing games available, many do things very differently to GT, so rather than wanting drastic changes made to GT, why not play something different? I'm not sure why Kaz should be fired for essentially making a different game.

Yeah, there are some daft decisions in GT sometimes, but hasn't that always been the case?

And god forbid you put EA in charge...

Unless this thread is a carbon copy, that's not a basis for comparison.

And knowingly posting false, inaccurate, or misleading information is an AUP violation, none of which is pertinent to this thread.

There's nothing to decide. At this rate the only thing that will warrant a formal reprimand is the direction this thread is headed toward.

...or indeed about the man himself. No doubt his work ethic is at least "OK" and the whole huge profit thing might help him hang on to his job too

It's a business & like any business there is a bottom line to be met. If Kaz is bringing in millions of dollars & keeping stakeholders happy AND people are STILL buying the game 14 months later plus the DLC then there's literally no chance of him getting fired, nor should there be.

Kaz go's in real life racing events.... he lives and breathes driving! I would think that as soon as it was taken over by some other guy Gran Turismo would lose that passion and spark that I havent experienced in any other game before, it would just become like forza.... customising cars and doing drag racing, etc, nothing wrong with drag racing but I prefer the Japanese edge to Gran Turismo they just have a passion for detail, that no other game could ever recreate. I love you Kaz, no homo

Kaz might be better suited to be visionary director for PD and everyday heavy producer work should be coordinated by someone else. But I think this is the case already which makes the point of the thread...

My point exactly: Nobody knows how they work at PD. It's impossible to have an opinion about it.

the thread was pertinent to this as they are related

What is a bit slack here is that the OP has just done a 'Hit & Run'. Wildmoodswings hasn't taken part in any discussion apart from his opening statement. It would be nice to see him respond to all the comments in the discussion that he initiated - seems only fair. Otherwise wildmoodswings just comes across unfavourably.

He opened another thread with a long list of flaws in GT5, and he expressed the view that Kaz should be fired from PD and he should get the job instead. He also claimed that Kaz was "bought" by the Japanese car industry, which is a claim that he doesn't have any evidence of. I think that is why that thread got locked. Then he opened this thread, just saying that Kaz should get fired.

This heading pretty much describes my feelings to a tee. But what are your thoughts? I dont think he is the right person to keep the GT series fresh and new and this game is proof of that imo.

Cow poo.

Polyphony Digital is currently hiring. Send your resume to the Tokyo studio, and put your ideas where your mouth is. Good Luck on your venture.

Well said. I mean some people either like attention or are never satisfied. He is so mad because he didn't get everything his way, Booho. This guy who made the thread has so much confidence, and is so mad should go apply and see if he can make a game prefect with the game market in so high demand to get the game out and you don't get enough time to make it perfect. I am sorry but all i got to say if you can't play a game without complaining, DON'T PLAY THE GAME.

It's definitely up there

I agree with this, it's Kaz's vision and it's been great to see it come alive over the last year and a bit. While others may make a better game for some people, a lot of loyal fans would likely hate it.

I love you Kaz, no homo
Wow... Was that really neccesary?
