I doubt it's a publicity stunt. I doubt that there's that many people who hadn't heard about GT5 before seeing him at Nürb. In addition, one does. It simply race Nürb for publicity. I think we all can agree that there's easier races to do for publicity, and certainly more famous ones. If it weren't for GT and Top Gear, I'd argue that most people wouldn't have ever heard about it. He's serious, or at least a gentleman driver, which is a quality I admire.

Gotta agree with the masses, Both. What a "Hustler" he is. Kaz is kinda gangsta in that way.

obsessive rules
IMO. That's a publicity stunt for Nissan.

GT Academy is both. Advertisment for GT and Nissan. GT gets a more realistic feel, because the make GT Fans to real race driver. The result is that some people think the physics in GT are better as they are.

Yamauchi as a race driver is advertisment too.
I just want to use this post

I think it excellent that the man who leads PD personally is capable of driving a race car in the 24hr Nurburgring. His vision is to deliver a sim experience which resembles the real life experience as closely as possible on a console. I can't think of any qualification for his job better than this.

He is not the only one who thinks this. Nothing is wrong with that opinion, but it shows Yamauchi the race driver is advertisment.

I think he is a huge driving fan and drives for himself. PD and Sony use this opportunity to make better marketing for GT.

Yamauchi said he prepared his 24h nurnburgring race with GT5. This was obviosly marketing, because

a) The physics are not realistic enough
b) Tyre modell is to simple
c) Racing simulation will never reach real driving. You need a good fitness for example. You can't simulate this or the respect to push to the limits. In real driving you can die if you push to hard. In games you can't die.

But i have to say the ring is great in GT.

I voted both.

Without a doubt it's both.

He may not be as serious as Patrick Dempsey is but, I'm pretty sure that this is the real deal.

Hot Wheels doing a side by side Loop at the XGames was a publicity "stunt". Kaz is actively promoting and doing research & development for his racing simulator game. Race car drivers have died at The Ring. For a grueling 24 hours, Kaz was genuinely risking his life for his passion.

There is a stark contrast.

It's both. Overall it advertises the GT series of games, but it also gives Kaz a chance to live an awesome life as both a video game producer and racer car driver. It also advertises that behind the GT games is someone who is involved with racing on a first hand experience.

GT racing has a long history of "gentleman racers." I think Kaz fits this category. He's not, nor does he intend to be a pro, but he is a serious enthusiasts who is quite a good driver. At any ALMS race there are quite a few wealthy business men who drive in the GT or even prototype classes. While they often advertise for the company that they own, their motivation for racing is the sure joy of the sport.

Additionally, it wouldn't be a publicity stunt for Nissan because he didn't drive for a factory team, and he has raced there for other manufacturers (like Toyota with the LFA).

Wasn't that an ISF rather than an LFA?

I see it as a man enjoying a hobby and a passion, but also uses it as a chance to do both research for the GT series, and to advertise primarily for GT, and for Sony/Nissan......

He is a car enthusiast, he made the GT series because of his passion for cars. It’s only natural that he would be interested, on his own, to participate in professional racing. He uses GT as an opportunity to do that. If anything, he’s not exploiting the racing to promote GT, he’s exploiting the GT promotion to have the opportunity to race.

I actually thought at first this was a poll asking if Kaz HIMSELF if a publicity/marketing stunt, in which case I would've voted yes hahaha

But I believe he is serious about racing. He's seem full of it a lot of the time but his love for cars is not one of those times. I think he geniunely loves racing, so much that he doesn't care about us fans and what we want. I still love GT5 and thinks it's the best, but in reality there's so many little things that could have and could be done to improve it and Kaz just barely seems to be interested in improving it.
