Left Wing or Right Wing? Take Pop Quiz in OP!

I guess I'm not sure what you mean?

You just (correctly) attributed abolition to progressives. Seeing that Lincoln was a Republican*, many modern Republicans like to give their party credit for the end of slavery. And since "progressive" is a dirty word for them, they tie themselves in knots trying to make that narrative work.

Just a passing comment based on my own experiences in similar conversations. Probably not to be taken too seriously.

*Ignoring the vast differences between the Republican parties of then and now.

I don't claim any affiliation of any party but I can say this much, if I had lived in the time of Lincoln's presidency it's very likely that I would have been a democrat. Progressive is not a dirty word, it's an excuse to lick your finger and stick it in the wind. Progressives did not end slavery anyway, rich bankers did to better their position of power.

Why would anyone want to take credit for the civil war?

I don't like using any kind of restrictive label to my personal views. Too limiting.
As far as tags go, isn't liberal about as lacking in limitation as it gets though? The other thing is that actively eschewing specific tags in reference to yourself kind of has a limiting effect anyway doesn't it? If you weren't using labels at all it would be different, but seeing that you use labels and marry certain attitudes to those labels, process of elimination comes into play.
In my experience on the ground at least, the textbook doesn't quite line up with reality when it comes to people who define themselves as liberal/progressive
I'd ditch the progressive label altogether personally. As with defining music as progressive or alternative, it doesn't make any sense. Alternative being relative to whatever happens to be popular at the time, therefore not set, and progressive suggesting it never remains the same.

Running with liberal then, the "reality" you suggest is part of why I would choose to describe myself as a liberal. I refuse to bow to it's misappropriation.

All tags are limiting by definition. I can't label myself anything because my views on issues range from what would commonly be called anything from libertarian to conservative to liberal and everything in between. Other people happily label themselves socialists, liberals, progressives, conservatives or whatever the popular term of the day is. In my experience meaning the people in my life that choose to attach labels to themselves, and there are many, often have no idea what the tags mean or what they stand for or what a socialist or liberal or conservative position is on any given issue.

I'd say that people limit tags as much as tags limit people. Maybe I have too pure a definition of liberal in my mind? Searching the meaning though gives Oxford's "Willing to respect or accept behaviour or opinions different from one's own; open to new ideas". That doesn't read as very limiting, especially since "willing" does not equal does, and "open to" does not equal will conform to. The reason I asked you in the first place was because you seemed to be actively distancing yourself from something that I don't see you at all being the antithesis of. Take it as a compliment.

*While searching I came across a curious Merriam-Webster example of a sentence using one of liberal's other branches - "Many fisherman keep their holes from freezing over with liberal injections of antifreeze. - Time, 28Feb. 1974". But hey, I'm liberal enough..... to each their own.

**Now I can't look at your current avatar quite the same anymore

Apparently despite my hatred for the current concept of Left Wing politics, I'm still leaning to the left-wing and anarchism.

I really thought I'd be reversed and be a right-wing leaning to fascism.

Would show you but I did it on my Wii U and can't figure out how to share it through it. Might redo it and show it.

Ah, this is a thing again. Love how my first result was one of the only ones in the first page that's still up. :dopey:

Pretty much the same as in previous results. But you do want to explain context to some of the questions. It's still an interesting test but it's not always an agree/disagree scenario.

"A thousand years of tyranny is better than than an hour of anarchy".
Was that aimed at my post above yours? The results may betray some cognitive dissonance but I'm not sure how green sector = anarchist.

I was happy posting "agree" to things I didn't fully agree with, which I thought the "strongly agree" button was for. Were there a neutral option for the answers I think a lot of people would end up going down the middle all the way.

I've gone more right wing and basically it's because when they say mutlinationals are doing etc I can't say strongly this or that because there are most that are not and some that are, really stupid questions.

Either way I would say politically this represents my libertarian leanings as socially I don't really belive in many if any restrictions.

No, my quip was out of the blue and had little to nothing to do with your post. I found it in a novel I'm reading, and merely threw it into our forum for amusement. Carry on.

Not really care much for politics but decided to take this test anyway

Although there was a few questions in there I wish there was just a neutral option for since that's how I felt towards some of them.

The result would be probably slightly different if this test was in German (my english isn't really good enough for such tests) :indiff:
Seems like not many ended up in the red section as well, huh.

What I scored about a year or two ago:
