I saw more lag last night in the pub lobby than I have the past few months.

BTK
Also, Grenade said something about running the next race in a public room, but I say no. I've tested it, and hope that somebody else will, that public rooms have different tire physics than Lounges. I think if we ran it online, it would be who's car is faster than driver ability, because a Racing Hard runs just as good as a Racing Rain.

I don't see the need to change in the middle of the season. I would like to know which is more realistic, though. I'd fight off pubbers if the public rooms were more realistic (which it sounds like they aren't).

p.s. If anyone is interested, I'm eager for next season: http://www.mygranturismo.net/carlist.php?max_year=2001

We haven't settled on any rules, yet, but I was looking at FR's below 385, and there are so many that I really am anxious at trying:

Mitsubishi Lancer EX 1800GSR IC Turbo '83
Nissan SKYLINE GTS25 Type S (R32) '91
Mazda SAVANNA RX-7 GT-Limited (FC) '85
Nissan SILVIA spec-S AERO (S15) '99
Mazda RX-7 GT-LIMITED (FC, J) '85
Nissan SILVIA K's (S13) '88

I really shouldn't though. I haven't gotten through a season without wrecking myself, I shouldn't progress AWD-FF-FR-MR, until I've safely gone a season. I should go back to AWD if that is possible at 385 PP.

p.p.s. &drive=4WD will limit the car select, too. You can also do FF, FR, and MR.

Good list. I've driven most of those cars, but not on CS tires. The Lancer understeers on SS tires. The RX-7s are prone to oversteer but it can be corrected with a little brake balance. The Silvias are decent cars. There are a few more above and below the 385pp level on that site that will work too...and obviously many of the cars chosen this season will still work well next season.

Only option for 4WD I see is possibly the CELICA 2000GT-FOUR (ST165) '86 or 3000GT SL (J) '95. However both are listed on the site above 385pp so you would have to find one with enough miles on it to bring it below 385 after an engine refresh.

Yeah, I was looking at that. :(

But, we haven't set any rules, yet. I actually was wondering if we should set slightly different PP levels for different drivetrains. Although, that probably doesn't work. On CS tires, the FFs have an advantage. But as the season goes along, the understeer becomes a bigger problem and the FR/MRs are able to take advantage of their power on better tires.

I was also thinking about some sort of auction system, so we'd only have one person in each car. Like, if Bob and Sue both wanted to drive the Rover 75, the one willing to drive it with less PP wins the car.

I was also wondering if it would be fun to have teams with two people in each car, just to see how people handle the car differently. I wanted Booch to stick around so I could see how someone else does in a Talon.

I think the auction system would be terrible.

Two car teams sound great though. That way we could have both a drivers and a constructors championship. It would also help out people who might not have a lot of setup experience. Team strategy during races might also come into play. I'm all for it.

I like the team idea. The thought passed through my head a while back but I figured it could wait. With grenade and I in essentially the same car last season it would have been interesting to share tuning techniques. We talked about it a little bit after each race and drove one another's cars...but having that insight before the race would ensure you were performing your best.

* 2 or possibly 3 man teams must run the same car
* teammate selection done by selecting captains to mate expert drivers with intermediate/novice drivers
* Must run the same car
* Scoring combines placement of each car
* Rewards cannot be shared
* Teammates cannot swap cars
* team cars need to be painted alike

That is brilliant. I didn't mention the team idea before because... honestly, who would want to be on a team with me? I'm rubbish.

Something I was wondering, would the two (or three cars) have to be the exact same model of the car, or just the same base car (I think you had the TM package last season, for example)? Can they be different years?

I don't think there's a wide enough range of cars for your concerns to come into play. The only examples that pop into my mind are the MR2s coming in SC and N/A form, and the Corolla Levin/Sprinter Trueno. With the MR2 there'd be no reason to run the N/A since the PP limit is increased, and the only difference between the two AE86s are pop up or fixed headlights.

We could take the top six drivers from the standings at the end of this season race each other in identical cars to decide car/driver selection order.

You are inconsistent, not rubbish...something a good trainer could help you resolve. You've got a wheel now right?

Whether teammates have to run the same car is debatable. I would say we'd have to at the very least stick to the same manufacturer. "Team Nissan" for example, if no other team was running Nissans. However, I think its in the best interest of the team to pick the exact car so they can share setups.

Allowing some more freebees after a few races might help with team cooperation. For example, after 2 races allow all drivers to install a LSD. After 4 races, allow all drivers to install a custom suspension. That removes some of the budget strategy though so it probably wouldn't work out.

There are so many good cars in Nissan's garage, that I wouldn't want to limit it purely by manufacture. You could have a Z-car team, a Silvia team, a Skyline/GT-R team. I would think that the cars should be the same base at least. Meaning, if they wanted to run the '85 RX-7 GT-Limited and the '85 RX-7 GT-Limited Savanna, I could see that. I don't know why they would want to. Maybe just for the fun of it. I'd be okay if the rules said that they had to run the exact same model, though.

I would say the cars have to be painted differently. But I do understand, cars on the same racing team usually have the same base color and different accent colors. Too bad we can't paint rims on standard cars.

Yes, I do have a wheel. And I do think I've gotten better this season, not just because of the wheel. But again, I have had a wreck every race this season. And the ones I can think of all start the same way: I clip the grass, usually pushing it a touch too hard, and smash a wall. Two of them were while attempting passes that I shouldn't've.

I'd have you on my team. If we do this I'm leaning towards Skylines, would need to test all the choices though.

Just imagine how things would pan out if the faster team mate was about to lap the slower one. If they knew the car behind them was far away, they could in theory push the slower car around the track to improve its position. Now that would make for some very interesting racing.

Or using the second car to dictate the pace of the cars behind so the other can pull ahead...

I'm getting excited about this.

Also sleight, the suspension in the Levin and Trueno are different on GT5. Trust me, I own 8 of them.

I don't mind the idea of team driver's, but I think it would have too be the same car for both driver's. Also, that no team have the same cars. Just my .02 cents.

Yes, that would be the point. I don't mind the same make, but each team must have a different model.

Yes, also, I think driver's should be able too pick their own teammates. Some people just don't connect with other's.

Yeah...we'd have to do some sort of kickball captains based on how people finish this season or something.

I like the idea of keeping the really good drivers balancing with the rest of us. But yes, I would want there to be some sort of picking and not random. Some people do get along better, and the ultimate point of all of this is for all of us to have fun. I'd hate for any of this to be a chore.

Still, there would need to be some consideration for how to reconcile two teams that want the same car.

We can Rochambeau for it...South Park style.

I don't follow South Park. I'm sure there are some Rochambeau/roshambo websites. But... but...!!! They could race for it.

Or.. the team captain that gets first pick of co-driver(s), gets last choice of car.

If you all read my post on the last page...

We could take the top six drivers from the standings at the end of this season race each other in identical cars to decide car/driver selection order.

Of course, it would be half of however many people wish to participate in the season.

OR

We could just host a race with everyone who competed in the series and the top half of the finishing order are captains. First place gets first choice of car, last place gets first choice of driver.

That would be an interesting way of doing it. But, I could people sandbagging at some point too make sure they have a better chance of being with a buddy. Instead of doing the race for friends, have people already decide teammates, and have the results from the points decide car choice.

For example: Add the two driver's points/positions together, and average them out. The team with the lowest average chooses first. This would mean, that if we stopped the points right now. And Chuyler and Sleight chose each other as teammates. They would have the highest average, but last choice of car. This would tempt some people too have a teammate like Lumberjack (sorry Lumberjack its nothing personal), instead of WiiFreak or Chuyler. (Yes I'm mixing the two race threads. Sorry.) The lower points of Lumberjack and chuyler, means that they will have a lower average, meaning they will have a better car choice pick.

I think a one-make race with a car selected from the recommended list would work. Everyone can participate (up to 16). Based on the results of the race drivers will select cars and teammates...

1st place finisher gets first pick of car, 2nd place gets second pick etc...
Last place finisher gets first pick of driving partner, 2nd to last gets second pick of teammate, etc...

I most certainly would not pick a specific driver just to get a better car selection. Car inadequacies last for 1, maybe 2 races. Driver inadequacies last the whole season.

I still don't understand why we couldn't just pick our own teammates? If I'm going too race with someone for a month or so, I want to be really good friends with them beforehand. I feel as if someone is going too pick WiiFreak purely because he is dominating Wednesday series, or pick Chuyler, or Diabolic, or Sleight, etc. Because they're excellent driver's and are really successful right now in the series. I'm not a people person, and I generally do NOT get along with people. That's why I frown on the idea of picking teammates like its the NFL Draft.

I think each season should stand alone. A persons postion in the final standings is car choice and tuning ability as much as it is skill. I think running a spec qualifying session is the best determination of skill. We shouldnt know the car or track till just before the session and it should be lobby vote. Or better yet, make the course one of the course creator tracks so its randomized.

Do you all want to sit here and play Suzy homemaker with Captain conundrum or do you wanna fight some crime??

*cough*

And BTK, we all know you'd pick Diabolic..don't even deny it! You could keep pitting together a whole season!

I'd be down with a teammate structure, but the problem is that if someone misses a race? Should there be a sub, or is that team down one racer for the night, and therefore down the points? Real life does get in the way sometimes...(eg: crashing a motorcycle in the AM)

I'm a nice guy! ....someone pick me?

Don't forget that if one person picks someone, the other person has to pick them back...
