Who do you think? Some say Metallica, but I'd have to say #1 is The Beatles
#2 is Led Zeppelin(They started the whole heavy drums)
 
Metallica number one? Haha. Maybe someone's favorite, but you can't place them on the top 20.

I'll agree with the Beatles.

Rolling Stones even though I don't really like them.
 
Oh boy this is tough. There are so many ways to evaluate #1. Maybe youshould have to say why you chose one particular band.

This is tough. A band amazingly unmentioned yet is.................... Queen. I certainly rank them up there.

I'd have to vote Tool number 1. every album they make, they have great songs. And then Queens of the Stone Age in 2nd. I wont go farther, since - after all - the thread topic tells to explain only the number 1 band of all time.

Heh, me and Bird have got tickets to go see the QOTSA in Manchester. We're hoping for a "special guest" on drums.
 
Perhaps to put a variation on things, you might want to say who in music right now will be remembered in the future.

I am WAY GLAD to see people here like GOOD music.
my #1 is Led Zeppelin, of course, and Im happy to see many people think like dat :D
second is obviously pink floyd... third... mmhh I think those two are the obvious choices. Led Zeppelin is simply the best band ever. it was a whole lotta talent merged in for the all time perfect blend. they are just awesome. same for pink floyd. and in their case they revolutionized the music. much more than led zeppelin.
there are a bunch of other bands that fit in here. I agree with most of what has been posted here. except for tool -__- and radiohead, I think they are way overrated. they are awesome bands but the make too much noise for what they really are. bands that I would get in here (aside from what has been said... I love the sabbath) would be the flaming lips, one of the most awesome bands of the last 20 years, king crimson and jethro tull, thay mean prog rock, Wilco, a young band that has so much pottential!! Saint germain, not a band, but the best DJ in the world, Bjork, a great mussician, Yoko Kanno, a musical genius, miles davis, the man that revolutionized the jazz and opened infinite doors... there are so much more people that deserve to be here... these are the ones that I can remember now...
these, dudes, made and make some of the best music in the world. God bless them!!

yup, dont get me wrong, I am a big fan of both, and I love them, and I thought that at least radiohead was the best in what they did... I dont know much about tool, but I think they are a great band, really, and its way difficult to acheve a sound like theirs. however, I think that there are many other bands in the style that are really better than radiohead. the flaming lips is a way good example, as is The disco biscuits or death cab for cuttie. and so many more bands out there that I think are better than radiohead... but still, they are great, and they made that kind of rock popular, but not to the level of spoiling it out just for the sales :D

Um, I agree that tool can be overrated, but I don't see too many people going about, seriously saying "Radiohead beats Led Zeppelin and the Beatles."

Also, this wasn't about the best band in the last 20 years, but rather of all time....

heh, you'd be surpirsed with the number of people I know that say that. and yes, I know its the greatest band of all time, and someone mentioned radiohead (or something about radiohead) and tool in number one. Im just saying that these bands are extremely overrated in the way that come people put them in a damned pedestal and not even pink floyd, led zeppelin and the beatles together could get them off that "first place". it just cant be. I mean, they say that because they are the only band they know that do that kinda stuff... tons have been talked about radiohead being "the band that has revolutionized rock" but the stuff radiohead does has been made since about twebty year by bands like the doves and the flaming lips and nobody seem to care. if you come here and ask who are these guys about two people will answer, and probably one will answer asking who are they. ask for radiohead and theyre gonna mention ok computer, then kid A, because they are FAMOUS. Im not saying that those albums are bad, they are awesome, and Im not saying they being famous is bad either, but what Im saying is that there are way better bands than those two that just arent in the mainstream.
